Pact of Steel

During WW2 The Dutch Islands were defended. They actually put up a strong defense so they should have a army. Their pieces would be purple. This would be a mini nation people could play as, the person playing the U.S. would also play as the Dutch.

Dutch Setup

Java - 1 Infantry, 1 Fighter, Naval Base, Air Base

Sumatra - 1 Infantry

Sea Zone 42 - Transport, 1 Submarine, 1 Destroyer

Sea Zone 41 - 1 Submarine

Hey guys, since I am constantly messing with my National Objectives, testing them, trying to incorporate Feedback, I did one more adjustment which are progressive objectives:

e.g. you now get 5 IPCs for fulfilling “Lebensraum” fully, but you still get 3 IPCs for only fulfilling it partially. All other Nations but the US got these and I think this change is a lot of fun. Also some other objectives have been adjusted because they seemed to be too easy to get for certain nations.

I think realistically in order for the Axis to win is for them to take Russia’s three capitals. And the Japs take over all over China and a large chunk of the pacific. I think the Allies would try to negotiate with the Axis party’s at the point.

That’s true, in my last game with Barnee, I formed the DAK and attacked Egypt with a large invasion force. However, I have never been able to make a good push into Russia. The only thing I could do was trade Leningrad back and forth. The Russians were ultimately super strong and could afford to help reinforce the Middle East as well as parts of China. It’s a strategy I don’t want to employ ever again because the Germans never really got going in the game. They managed to capture Cairo in the end, but just barely. If things had gone a little differently, my attack would have failed and all those resources I spent in Africa would have been wasted.

Looking forward to the upcoming game report! I am interested to see how you deal with Africa as the Axis 😁

@TheDesertFox Although this topic is quite old, I strongly disagree with you. In every game, Japan pushes through China AND the Far east to take IPCs off Russia. Yes, they are only worth 1 IPC each, but it sums up. Russia usually loses 4 territories here, which not only makes them lose 4 IPC (which is more than 10% of their starting income) but also grants Japan 4 additional IPCs 8which is more than 20% of their starting income. Plus, you usually have many fighters nearby so Japan can crush the Russian infantry pretty easily there. The Russians have no offensive capabilities there whatsoever (unless they send something there but believe me, they need it against Germany rather).

If you want to implement a Manchurian Pact there though, I suggest using a rule from revised: There is peace between the Soviets and Japan at the start of the game, however, you can declare war at any time. When you do so, the Player that has been delcared war against receives 3 infantry units that he can place immediately in any territory that is under attack by the opponent.

Political costs for a DOW along the Russian/Japanese border result in world outrage against the aggressor nation.

If Russia conducts a DOW against Japan, the U.S. will remain neutral 1 additional turn and will not interfere with Japanese aggression against UK and ANZAC in the Pacific since they are the “victim” nation. Fear of Communism fuels American pacifism and ties Roosevelt’s hands. The Japanese Ambassador exposes a (faked) “Caucasian” treaty between Russia, UK, and ANZAC dealing with the suppression and division of Japanese assets/territories.

If Japan conducts a DOW against Russia, the U.S. will remain neutral 1 less turn and they become a “friendly” power with the pacific allies, permitting the landing of US units on allied territories and providing sea units for a common defense until a formal DOW occurs between the US and Japan. These land and sea units upon meeting with allied forces/fleets change flags (I.E. swap US vessels/units with UK,China,USSR or ANZAC pieces) to maintain “neutrality”.

One of the realism rules I want involved in some home brew rules Im working on is to have russia place 1 infantry in each of their northern territories leading to moscow the turn Japan invades, to represent the partisans rising up to pick away at the invaders, slowing down the final attack on moscow.

Can’t we all just play the game and not make things up as we go?

IMO, keeping the Japanese focus on the American threat and the Chinese irritant is the preferred way to keep Japan out of Moscow… pretty much the way if happened historically.

If we find those two factors consistently being so minor that strategic adventurism prevails for the Japanese player then I’d lean towards beefing up his Pacific opponents versus “treaty handcuffs”.
