It underlines that evolution is not a matter of progress towards a goal, and that it is incorrect to assume more intelligent species are “more evolved”.
This is why. What it means is that evolution and intelligence don’t go hand in hand. However many years ago, humans and chimps split from one ancestor. Since then, humans have evolved to speaking, standing upright, and using opposable thumbs. Chimps have evolved in other ways. Our evolutions may have gained us prominence in the animal world because of our intelligence and ability to utilize and make tools, but chimps have evolved on their own further from the original ancestor than we have…these evolutions just didn’t include the speech, intelligence, etc. that we got.
