    I’m finally resigning the game.

    This is probably long overdue, and I’m sorry if it felt that way. But to me, the last few turns still had something interesting to offer. I didn’t play many endgames yet.

    Feel free to play the Japan turn though and get the 6 VC. It doesn’t happen too often to play till the actual win condition of the game (barring one full round of holding).

    First of all, congratulation on the win. You’ve played very well!

    A few thoughts from me:

    • You played very efficiently and ruthless. I don’t remember any mistakes from your side that I spotted. It was always a steady grid forward for you
    • I’m curious about your J1 attack excluding the US. Was it simply to make all other attacks a bit safer or is there any other advantages I’m not aware of?
    • I was quite happy with holding moscow so long (with very little pressure from the west on Germany). Until I realized that it’s not necessary for you to get it in the first place. Starving me to death by capturing everything else was enough. In retrospect I maybe should have played this differently. Not exactly sure how though
    • US spent almost all of their income in the pacific. And overall I was quite happy with how I annoyed Japan there. Had the Carolines for a long time, even philipines for a turn Still, I felt like I never reached the point where I could face your fleet. I really wonder what went wrong there.
    • the Persia factory was probably too late. Instead I counted on egypt
    • russian mech in africa is nice, but I’m not sure worth the hassle
    • Except for the last turns, I didn’t put much pressure on Germany, actually for the Europe investment that I did, I was quite satisfied. Nevertheless, it was not enough and Germany could do as it pleases
    • US bombers are very awesome. Originally I planned them to kill the japanese fleet, but as that never happened they could turn very quickly around to the other side of the board
    • turn 5 I thought I had there an actual decent chance at capturing Rome (with US providing a surprise landing space in Sicily), but then I blundered two uk transports around Egypt, which was the beginning of the end I felt.
    • I liked the turn 6 move to Guam, as it really made you shift your focus. I played several japanese buys through, and estimated decent odds at japan (~80%). But you bought well though and in the end it was a quite a bit less than I’d hoped for (around 45-52%)
      • I still went ahead, hoping for the coin flip. In the end not successful. And latest after this battle, the game was over. Why did I go through with it?
        • I was already pouring all money into the Pacific and still I barely reach even odds in facing your fleet. Japan still increased its income and just has to buy carriers as the planes already exist. I saw this as a losing preposition
        • you had no planes in reach of Japan and only one transport. With the anzac fighters at the ready, you would not have been able to take back Japan. So capturing would have been double worth it as you have 2 turns no income. And with the Japanese money, I was hoping to rebuild the lost planes.
        • So I saw this as a last gamble to even the odds. If things progressed as before, I would end up losing
    • I was quite happy how quickly I could move the US units to Europe. Still of course a doomed undertaking with that much German income
    • In the end, India would have fallen, Persia as well. All while I could not possibly get into Germany.

    I’m curious about your thoughts on the game.

    Thank you for the game! You played very well, and kept it competitive throughout. Even at the end, I was concerned about a blunder on the Europe a side, so just played conservatively and turtled up in Berlin.

    A few thoughts from my side:

    1. Not taking the Philippines on J1 was more due to my inexperience playing Axis, and wanting more margin on the other battles. Probably I would not do it again that way.

    2. Agree the Persia (and Iraq) factories could have been helpful earlier on. Either to supply Moscow with fighters or to help bolster India.

    3. Surprising how the blundering of 2 transports is really felt later in the game. I made a similar blunder in a recent game, and I also felt it turned out to be a pivotal mistake that led to me losing that game. You had Italy in a lot of financial distress due to the sub convoying.

    4. I was not surprised you went for Tokyo, but I was surprised you went for it after not taking Korea with Russia so you could bring in the extra bomber. I adjusted my Japan fleet movement to go to Philippines assuming you would NOT go for it with odds I believe ever so slightly in my favor. Once you committed, I think it would have been worthwhile for you to go all the way. If you could not take it with US, Anzac would have a follow up attempt as well. The loss of income to Japan would have been felt, and could have been interesting to see what Anzac would do with 60+ extra income!

    I do feel this was a mistake made on my part by (a) not taking Guam much earlier, and (b) getting too greedy trying to deny China access to artillery by holding Yunnan with help from Japanese planes. If I had left the planes on FIC with the airbase, just flying back a few fighters to Tokyo would have made the threat there manageable. You picked the exact right time to strike!

    1. Once you took Rome, it became a strong base of operations for UK and US. I’ve usually gone north to break into Europe with the Allies, but taking Rome was very effective, especially with the bomber fleet.

    2. It’s possible you may have been able to defend India if you were less aggressive attacking Germany/Italy. I never ran the scenario, but landing the Russian planes, all the British planes that were in Rome, and the US bombers could have enabled India to survive at least a couple extra turns, though not positive on that.
