Hello all,

the 4th “Tournament of Champions” is taking registrations now.

it is played with triplea free gaming system and uses play by email. however in the past many games have been played real time online if both opponents can meet up.

this is for the revised edition. i know its out of date but it will have the highest level of competition judging by the players that have already signed up.

It’s true that SBRs are nearly a break-even proposition.  However, if they weren’t, they’d dominate the game.

The whole point of SBRs is inflicting damage that the enemy can’t afford.  The US is the only country that can really afford an SBR campaign, simply because it can afford the losses, while Germany can’t.  The US sacrifices its own income to suppress Germany’s so that the UK and USSR can take advantage of its weakened state.  This is not really pointless.

If SBRs were a money-making proposition, there’s no way that the Axis could survive, since they start off economically inferior to the Allies.  The Allies could simply build a few bombers to SBR with, then devote the rest of their income to defense.  Eventually, the combined toll of the bombings would render the Axis powers bankrupt, then the Allies could move in for the kill.  Doesn’t sound like a very fun game, does it?

The strategy you’re describing sounds perfectly viable to me.

National Advantages. NA’s. They are optional rules in the OOB rule book that give a different ability to certain units or make an exception to certain rules depending on the country. I haven’t really played with them but it is said that they add some variety to the game.

Personally I find Banzai to be one of Japan’s best advantages as it is. It allows them to forgo expensive art and tank buys and just use Inf for ground wars.

My group uses full NAs too BAGM; for Japan we did the following based on LHTR:

Combined the Suicide NAs into one,
Altered the Fanatical Defenders to "Japanese Inf defend on a 3 in the first cycle of combat when defending a yellow territory. Japanese Inf on islands are not subject to Battleship bombardment.

and are still playing out various “new” NAs. Our current option up for testing is “Total war!”, allowing Japan to build an unlimited number of units on its home territory.

I also come up with something of a new Fanatical Resistance (Dug-In Defenders):

Fukkaku Defenses
The Japanese introduced the tactic of endurance engagements intended to inflict maximum casualties. This tacic called Fukkaku included bunkers and pillboxes connected by tunnels.
All your infantry on islands and Japan are immune to shore bombardment and defend during the opening fire of combat.
