I’m starting the think the following Axis strategy is overpowered:
Turn 1:
German attack on Russia. Germany clears out the British Navy, takes France, etc. Germany builds 2 transports and a smattering of land troops.
Japan: Build 3 transports; fight China, attack Russia; mass Navy off of Kwangsi
Italy: does what it can in the Med, depending on the UK’s move.
Turn 2:
Germany uses transports to take Leningrad; continues assault on Russia; buys another transport and mech/armor
Japan: buys navalbase at Hainan, continues fighting Russia and China; buys 3 more transports
Italy: does what it can in the Med to keep the UK fighting there; sends what land troops it can to Russia.
Turn 3:
Germany- uses transports to land more troops in Leningrad; continues assault on Russia - str bomb Moscow when able and every turn.
Japan: cat out of the bag now- moves majority of Navy plue 5+ loaded transports into the middle of the Indian Ocean; buy small naval at Japan, minor IC for Manchuria or Shanghai, move new transports to Hainan.
Italy- strategic bomb Moscow when able and every turn.
Turn 4:
Germany- same old
Japan: moves Navy west across Indian Ocean- continues assault on China/Russia, move new transports to middle of Indian Ocean (With some protection depending on what the Allies have to hit it).
Turn 5:
Germany- same old
Japan: Take Cairo with 3 loaded carriers, battleship/cruiser shots and 5/6 loaded transports; If Cairo is unable to be taken, take South Africa or Iraq or Persia depending on if the UK built an IC. Or, wait until turn 6 with the new transports coming and take Cairo with 8-10 loaded transports.
Turn 6:
Germany- takes Moscow
The Axis now hold 7 VC’s in Europe; all that remains is Stalingrad, which should be easy to take. Game over.
The UK could declare war on Japan turn 3 after they move their navy to the middle of the Indian ocean and utilize some naval blockers, but this would only slow down Japan by one turn because they likely clear out all UK Naval assets in range on Turn 4, and then take Cairo turn 6 with the larger number of transports.
The crux of the matter is:
1. Japan puts all effort into hurting Russia from turn 1; even as far as strategic bombing Moscow as soon as possible.
2. Japan doesn’t care if the US builds Pacific heavy; the Axis are not looking to win in the Pacific, just in the Atlantic.
3. Germany doesn’t care about allied landings in Africa or France or Norway. These can be repulsed easily and in any case the UK probably can’t make landings without the US, which isn’t at war until turn 4.
4. I don’t think the UK would have enough in Cairo to stop the Japanese, as until turn 3 they probably won’t see this coming. Even on turn 3, they do not know where the Japanese are landing- they could take South Africa, Iraq, or Persia if Cairo somehow is too heavily defended (don’t see it happening). Italy could even suicide its African army to kill some units in Cairo.
Would love to see some counters to this (knowing that you won’t be expecting this until turn 3- if the Allies purchase specifically to stop this than Japan can just take the DEI and fight normally in Pacific; now where are we?).
