• Coach, if you don’t mind suggestions, I would trim the PT Boat and the LVCP Higgins Boat.  Gents look at page 6, I modified the list to include DANGERMOUSE’s pre-order of ten sets, and RAZORS 5.

    Cheers

    @coachofmany:

These are my choices.(need to trim two of them)
We are at 31% of funds needed to start sculpting.

Montana Class Heavy Battleship 26 (7.2%)
Essex Class Heavy Carrier 18 (5%)
    Oiler 19 (5.3%)
    Light Cruiser 20 (5.6%)
    Destroyer Escort 20 (5.6%)
    LCVP Higgins Boat 9 (2.5%)
South Dakota Class Battleship 18 (5%)
    PBY Recon Aircraft 20 (5.6%)
    B-29 17 (4.7%)
    Alaska Class Battlecruiser 15 (4.2%)
    PT Boat 11 (3.1%)
    Anti-aircraft Cruiser (Atlanta class) 11 (3.1%)

I love the list and took off the LCM and the LST. I think for this set we can just have the LCVP. IMO  I love the idea of the light cruiser and the AA cruiser. I think the PT boat should stay, if not it should definetly be in the second set.

    “Coach”,

As always, it’s great to hear from you again and Thanks for the “Update”.

Well, IMHO to trim 2 units from this 1st Set list I would suggest cutting:

(1.)  The LCM.  The LCM is completely unneccessary as long as you keep the LST and LCVP units.  The LST allows large invasions including Tanks,…and the LCVP is the “iconic” Landing Craft that everyone instantly recognizes.

(2.)  The “Alaska” BattleCruiser.  In real life there were only 2 of these ships made,…the USS Alaska and the USS Guam.  As far as gameplay concerns,…we would loose the least by cutting this ship type.  Although these would be “cool” units to have I would say delay them to the 2nd Set.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Every other unit seems to be a REAL WINNER and would not only look COOL but would greatly increase our CAPABILITIES in gameplay terms.  This set should make everyone HAPPY!            :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

    -----------------------------------------------------

I will still look forward to the 2nd Set and hope to get some “Independance” class CVLs,
APD Fast Attack Transports, AV Seaplane Tenders, DMS Minesweepers, the “Alaska” BattleCruiser, and all of the other Battleships.

Okay, put me in for the 2 more sets now. I just sent coach the funds…

Also, I agree with Tall Paul on the production list. I want the Higgins and the LST. Scrap the LCM. Also, how cool would the little LST models look in a game of D-Day… Come on, right? Scrap the Alaska for now in favor of keeping a more usable line up. And yes, we need the B-29s! Not just for this game, but every time period after. Korea, Vietnam, even Desert Storm if want I guess.

I have to disagree with you guys on which ships to cut from the first set.  I think it should be by number of votes for each sculpt.
    @coachofmany:

Montana Class Heavy Battleship 26 (7.2%)

    PT Boat 11 (3.1%)
    Anti-aircraft Cruiser (Atlanta class) 11 (3.1%)

Both the LCM and LCVP Higgens Boat only have 9 votes each.  The Alaska has 15 (yes, I know that I have already stated that I am wanting this ship).  I’m just saying that going by the votes it looks like more people want the Alaska than want the LCM and LCVP.  There is still a month left for voting so if one or both manage to pass the Alaska, then I regretfully concede.  Of course, the final decision is up to Coach on what ships get made (assuming we get enough funds) and I will be happy with whatever final list he comes up with.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  • '14

NOw that I have read other posts I think the independence cvl should replace one of the light cruisers or the B29.

  • Customizer

    KNP,

I understand what you’re saying concerning the voting numbers, but perhaps I might point out a few things:

    1. Yes, the “Alaska” netted more votes than the LCVP “Higgens Boat”,…but the LCVP wasn’t in the voting from the very start and IMHO we just HAVE TO HAVE a “Higgens Boat” made.

    2. IMHO the LCM should without question be DROPPED from this 1st Set.

    3. The “Independance” Light Carrier I want (which didn’t make the semi-final list) garnered more votes than did the “South Dakota” Battleship which is included in the semi-final list.  BUT the “Coach” explained that he wanted this 1st Set to be as VERSATILE as possible and have as many different ship types as possible.  And I’m TOTALLY HAPPY with that, especially if it gets this 1st Set produced.

    4. If you look at the semi-final list, each of the ship types offer us a new CAPABILITY or MORE DEPTH of gameplay.  IMHO the ships that offer us the least are the LCM and the “Alaska” BattleCruiser.  I hope this helps everyone to understand the "Coach’s decisions.

    @Tall:

    This would be my list:

    @coachofmany:

    Montana Class Heavy Battleship
    Essex Class Heavy Carrier
    Oiler
    Light Cruiser
    Destroyer Escort
    LCVP Higgins Boat
    LST
    South Dakota Class Battleship
    PBY Recon Aircraft
    B-29
    PT Boat
    Anti-aircraft Cruiser (Atlanta class)

    “Tall Paul”

We’ll just have to wait for the 2nd Set to get some more of the other units that would really increase our gameplay capabilities.

“Coach”, Thanks for all of your time and hard work so far on this “extra” project".

Honestly I think a battlecruiser would be more used than 2 different light cruisers. No matter the historic value of the units, we have to be able to put them in a game. Even the LCM LCVM will only fit in the smaller games such as DDay and even the Okinawa game I’ve made.
I was thinking we could also drop the B29 and keep a ship! I’m sure coach will make another set and include the b29

  • In relation to coachofmany’s list, and the need to drop two units, I would definitely cut the LCM. Although I would keep the LST without a doubt, the LCVP seems a little below the scale of combat in the series of AAA games we have to date (or any existing boardgame of which I can think). There seems to be quite some demand here for this unit, but I personally do not see a role for it, as I would prefer to just ‘abstract’ the actual beach landing. Maybe my gaming preferences just differ from those of others in this regard.

Also, I would include a CA instead of a CL in the set, in light of the inclusion of the Atlanta-class CLAA. I know that FMG is already producing a Wichita-class CA, but that unit is, of course, a one-off class and I would like to see some CA variety in these sets. There were also more votes for a new CA than CL. Coachofmany - regardless of whether a CA or CL is included in your set, will you accept input from the community (via a second poll) as to the specific sculpt choice?

As well, I would place an pre-order for two more supplementary naval sets if I could combine them into my present pre-order without paying extra shipping.

  • Sponsor '17 '13 '11 '10

The Out of Box unit is a Haeavy Cruiser (Portland) and FMG is doing a Heavy Cruiser.
Why would you want another Heavy Cruiser and no light Cruiser?

I will always poll and see what the AAA community wants but….I also make decesions based on game that I am producing and variety that can be used now. As more sets are produced, then we can start adding more classes to the sam type of ship. IMHO

  • @ Coachofmany - Thank you for reply. I do understand your reasoning, and I would not at all be adverse to a new CL sculpt. However, with FMG producing a single-ship class (one of the few FMG sculpt choices with which I would disagree), and with so many other iconic US CA’s left unproduced, I would subjectively prefer to see a New Orleans or Baltimore over a Cleveland, Brooklyn, or Omaha. I would personally just use the Atlanta to represent a conventional CL at this scale.

I didn’t consider the OOB ‘Portland’ representation in my post, as I intend never to use the poor-quality OOB pieces after having receiving full sets of FMG and HBG units. I believe I am not the only one who will cease using them, based on other community posts.

As well, regarding my earlier inquiry, is there any way for me to add two more pre-order US supplementary naval sets to my current pre-order?

  • Sponsor '17 '13 '11 '10

    Yes,
    Order them.
I will adjust shipping with order.
Please leave a note in comment section.
I agree, I do want to do a Baltimore class CA.
    Why wouldn’t you?
The OOB choices are terrible and maybe FMG will change their mind.
I agree that the CL should stay and AA CL go away, at least in the first set.

  • Coach, I am in for that as well, keep the Light CL and send the Atlanta off to set number 2.  I am correct in sensing that you are going to utilize these in a future Pacific theatre game other than your current Pear Harbor game you are working on?

FMG, is there special reason you chose the CA 45 USS Wichita class which only one was built?  Instead of choosing a Class with more than 5 each CAs produced such as the New Orleans, Baltimore or Northampton Classes of WWII Heavy Cruisers.

    Just wondering

Now, for you gents who are opposed to using OOB Cruisers, if you are savy with a paint brush and Xacto Knife you can make them look really presentable as I have over the years.

I chose the Baltimore Class for the Heavy and Brooklyn Class for the light Cruiser.
They are both very distinguishable from each other and also widely used.
They are in good scale to one another also!
    Just my thoughts.

    Warrior and everyone,

Tigerman and I are working on our Expanded A&A–The Solomons Campaign and it hopefully will be an worthwhile arena to showcase all of these new ship, aircraft, and land unit types.  We’re planning for it to cover the Solomon Islands chain from the Admiralties in the North to New Caledonia in the South and be the size of an entire G-40 map.

    –-------------------------------------------------

In all of my opinions I was keeping in mind not only this new game, but everyone’s gaming experience.  The ship types I was in favor of were mostly because of the
NEW CAPABILITIES that they would add to our gameplay,…such as PBY Seaplanes, PT Boats, Oilers, LSTs, Minelayers, A/A Cruisers, etc.

IMHO I felt the “Atlanta” CLAA Cruisers added to the A/A defense of our Naval Task Forces, not that they were simply “historically correct”.  And I still think we really need the LCVP “Higgens Boat” and LST.  I was also in favor of dropping the B-29 from this “Naval Set” for another ship type but the “Coach” decided in favor of keeping this very popular unit.

I’m sure that we will ALL be happy with what ends up in this 1st Naval Set, and will look forward to having a 2nd Naval Set also in the near future.

Everyone should express their opinions but also be mindful of the “Coach’s” guildlines for inclusion in this 1st Naval Set.

Basically, which 12 units of the 14 listed would you like in this 1st Naval Set???
