• Example - G1 subs in 108 and 103 attach british fleet in 110 - no destroyer present can the british airforce scramble to defend - Alpha 2 rules….

Also, if subs attack an aircraft carrier that has planes on it, can the planes attack without a destroyer present…

Thanks we just started a new game tonight!!  Second game…

  • planes cannot attack submarines unless a destroyer is present. Submarines are sneaky and are able to hide from planes, so a destroyer needs to be present to ‘detect’ a submarine and radio it in.

So the British can’t scramble their planes.

the planes on the AC cannot attack, they need a destroyer.

  • Thank you!!

  • You’re welcome =]  have fun and good luck!

I believe that the British are allowed to scramble - there just is usually no reason to.

If for example the space with the airbase was simultaneously being attacked by a superior force and the brits didn’t want to lose their planes AND they knew they had a safe landing space adjacent to the naval battle, they could choose to scramble the planes, which would not participate in the battle, effectively saving them.

But be sure to clarify, the planes are not “on the AC”.  They are in the air, and cannot be trapped on the AC if the sub hits (but they won’t be able to land on the AC and will need a landing space within 1 move).

  • Well excuuuuuuuuse me princess, i was only addressing the questions he asked, not any hypothetical ones.  :-P

  • Thanks to both answers!!!  Didn’t think of the scramble off of the AC so they can land somewhere else…. good idea!!

If subs attack an AC, isn’t it the option of the defending AC whether or not to put the planes in the air?  If there is no landing place within one move it might be better to leave the planes on board.  If they launch and the AC takes a hit but survives, the planes would splash since they can’t land on a damaged AC.  In that case it would have been better for the planes to stay on the AC.  The planes would be trapped on the damaged AC until the AC can get repaired, but at least they would be alive.

No.  Defending planes are always in the air.

  • so just to clarify my own forgetfullness here if the subs fire on the AC and miss…the defending carrier gets to fire back correct?(not the planes) and if the subs fired and struck one suprise hit…the AC takes a hit(but remains alive becuase its a capital ship)and at that point it doesnt fire back then correct?

  • Official Q&A

The carrier fires back as long as it isn’t sunk.
