Newbie question about the 8 information cards

Sorry for the remedial question… Are the 8 information cards necessary to play this game. I bought at a second hand store and it is missing the 8 information cards. All other pieces are new in factory packaging and all other components are there. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!!
