College Football is finally here.

  • @reloader-1:

OSU? They looked good, but pretty shoddy in the Miami game. Offense was pretty ineffective.

Not so sure about ineffective. They had a 7+ minute drive in the 4th quarter to kill the clock and close it out taking a knee when they could have punched it in again. While 5 field goals could be ineffective after getting the score back to even they went ahead and stayed ahead. And while QB Harris had 4 pics they were not all on him or as much on him as folks would like to make out. Two were very much on the receiver and two were on the Buckeyes making plays.

    @Fishmoto37:

Has anyone seen the new quarterback of Michigan play yet? Have never seen anyone like him. Wonder if he can hold up for the entire season? Time will tell.

Watched him last weekend. He was the fastest player on the field, he seperated from a cb in the open field.

Denard Robinson for TSUN does look pretty good so far and he is doing things nobody has every done before but 57 carries in the first two games is a lot even for a big running back like a John Clay at Wisconsin. Robinson has missed snaps in both games so far getting dinged. I don’t see how he can last the season in one piece and he certainly won’t be able to keep up this pace. For more on TSUN’s game against the Domers.

While I can’t deny Robinson’s talent TSUN so far have been a one trick pony with Denard. He has been more or less their whole offense and as amazing as he was Notre Dame forced 10 punts so he is obviously stoppable. UCONN sort of caught up as the game went on if you compare first and second half stats. And we saw this at the start of last season with Forcier. Once they hit conference play they just got pounded.

Bama is the best team in the country but that’s what oversigning does for you.

  • OSU’s Defense was stellar. Special teams was horrendous, and the offense was average to poor.

    Ohio State Drive Summaries
START QTR POSS. YARD PLAYS YARDS RESULT
    15:00 1 03:39 OSU 20 8 36 Punt  Bad

    07:31 4 07:31 OSU 39 14 51 End of Game Excellent - best drive of the game

I still stand by my opinion that OSU’s offense isn’t all that great.

Miami will make any great team look average. The school is loaded with NFL level talent.

Perhaps, but OSU still could have played better. They should have. They are ranked Number 2 in the nation and they need to play like it.

  • There is certainly room for improvement but that clock killing drive in the fourth gives me more confidence than the too few TD’s in the redzone takes away. Pryor will hopefully be a bit less amped up and not make bad throws because of it.

Miami is the best DL the Buckeyes will see until probably Iowa.

  • Miami’s defense against a running QB has always been atrocious. It is our Achilles heel.

  • As a FSU fan…I was horrifed at how easily our defense allowed touchdowns.

  • I’m a Texas fan, but I hate these cupcake nonconference games they play.

  • @RedHunter:

The Sooners pounded them pretty good.

They do have UCLA on the 25th of Sept so I wouldn’t say they have entirely cupcakes in their OOC slate. While it is unfortunate that the pressure to be undefeated keeps a lot of teams from scheduling tough OOC games like last week’s Miami-OSU it is understandable.

So who do you like this week in the Notre Dame- Michigan State game?

Notre Dame will win by three.

  • Michigan State will win by 7, and have over 200 yds rushing as a team.

  • Real nervous about my Hawkeyes out in the desert.  last few trips out to the state of Arizona have been nightmares.

Real nervous about my Hawkeyes out in the desert.  last few trips out to the state of Arizona have been nightmares.

The Hawks have themselves a tough road trip on their hands and Arizona is no push over. Their defense should be good enough to keep them in it but the Hawks always seem to find at least one game a season where they beat themselves. I hope they win but that is likely to be a close game. Glad I’m not a Hawks fan. You’ll have to delay the first beer of the day for a bit I’d imagine.

I think Sparty beats the Domers pretty good on Saturday. I’m just sorry it isn’t on till 8:00. I finally get an entire Saturday for football and the match-ups through the afternoon are pretty lackluster. So we got Sparty/ND and Texas/Texas Tech but the rest of the day is a bit “meh.” Gators and Vols should be interesting briefly and it will be fun to watch the Buckeyes 2nd teams get some reps. We should get to see a lot of Hall and Berry in the 2nd half. Both of those guys look promising.

  • Nebraska plays Washington today. If NU plays like they did last week against Idaho it could be a long day for the Huskers.

  • Rough trip for the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Great ending to the MSU-Notre Dame game although it seems to have sent the MSU head coach to the hospital with a heart attack. Bama and OSU continue to look good although they didn’t have very strong opponents.

TSUN is in for what appears to be a slightly better remake of last season it seems. They gave up 37 points to lowly FCS opponent UMASS who seemed to  be gashing them up the middle on runs with regularity. They aren’t going to be able to outscore everybody.

  • Woot!  :-D College football is going good my team (Michigan State Spartans) is 3-0!  :-o  GO STATE!  :-D

  • @spartan:

Gutsy call from Dantonio on the the fake field goal in OT. Put the dude in the hospital though. Hope he’s better  and on the sidelines again soon. Looking forward to you guys putting the first L on the board for TSUN. Although the Hoosiers are lighting it up in the passing game and TSUN’s D is terrible. They might beat you to it.

Looks like some good games away from the B10 this week as they finish up their OOC schedules. Bama-Arkansas; Oregon State-Boise State; Auburn-S.C.; Stanford-ND; and mostly of interest locally Ohio-Marshall.

  • Clemson. I wish CJ was  still here.

  • So the big questions for the weekend would be?

    Mine are:

Can the Buckeyes take care of business?

    Wisconsin or MSU?

Can Indiana give TSUN a little payback for the robbery they suffered last year?

Can the Oregon O continue to put up blistering numbers against a team with a pulse?

    And Tide or Gators?

  • So Bama would appear to be pretty darn good although the Gators looked inept (snicker) but a good D will do that to you.

    Oregon’s O is blistering again.

Kinnick stadium looked pretty awesome in alternating black and gold ala Boise on Saturday evening and played a pretty good game. That D end for the Hawks is lights out.

All I hear is how the OSU passing game needs to be stepped up but none of the TV talking heads mentioned the brutal wind in Champaign. The one that knocked down a 41 yard field goal and sailed kickoffs to the back of the endzone.

Indiana got robbed again. No. 77 at tackle for TSUN got away with a big time hold to spring Shoelaces.

Sparty looked very un-Sparty in their win on Saturday.
