If I may be so bold, I have some observations about your attacks. Please ignore these comments if you do not find them helpful.
You can sometimes be a little lighter in your attacks than I would be, also you sometimes lack cheaper cannon fodder in the attacking units to absorb hits. These can result in attacks being more vulnerable to poor dice early in the battle and therefore more costly.
There’s always a balance of risk verses reward, and high risk / high reward attacks of opportunity can be worth it, but generally in A&A it is better to go for attacks with overwhelming odds in your favour, even if it means making fewer attacks.
If you can preserve more of the attacking units, they are better able to resist any counter attack and will have better odds in subsequent battles. Also, it can take time to get replacement units to the front line, especially on offense.
I’m an average A&A player, if that, but maybe you will find something of use in these words.

Let me choose the Italian casualties please, I may make different decisions depending on how the dice land.

It can be difficult to anticipate all the possible air units which can be brought into an attack when there are lots of islands and carriers around as potential landing spots. I’ve lost many a USN fleet in the Pacific because I failed to account fully for all the Japanese air units. You can always use a Local Game, to skip through to the opponeents turn and play around with their units to see what is possible.
The Caroline Islands are a double edged sword, they are a powrful central location which give attack options across a very wide area, but this also means that they can be attacked from a lot of places too. Both the Axis and Allies have adjacent islands which can be used to land the air units which start closeby, freeing up the carriers to pick up planes coming from far away.
