• Any tips on how to balance the 50th Anniversary Edition? Is there a set of changes like the Alpha+ editions on Global? What do you guys suggest?

If you really want to go all out (though I typically play WITH them) you can do No National Advantages (they favor the Axis).

I never have been a fan of the whole “bid” process people like to use so regularly.

I’ve had groups play with the following rules and it seems pretty balanced… of course pick or choose - you’ll be able to tell which ones are “balancing” rules rather than expansion (China, Air Bases, Fighter Interceptor/Escorts, & Shore Guns are balancing).  We’ve used National Objectives in the same games and they worked smoothly, though this has been in only three games so I’m not sure on that point.  But I like the way NO’s provide more cash for everyone = more units, and pushes toward some semblance of historical WWII.

In regard to balance, I’m of the opinion that AA50th is still one of the best though…

  • For 1942, you could still play with NOs if you play China with G40 rules, if you move Karelia’s IC to Novosibirsk (in fact, this is more historical than OOB) or if you give a starting IC to India or South Africa. Maybe a combination of these, if you find that Axis continues winning

Or, as mentioned above, you can use a bid for the Allies to balance either the 1941/42 scenarios. The most common are 13 IPCs for 1941 and 9 for 1942.

  • The game is in balance if you use dice, its just strategy dependent. Most people (99 % or so) do not know the best allied strategies and henche they require a bid to balance the game.
An extra inf for britts in egypt is an easy balancing act.
If you use low luck rules wich is a horrible horrible rule that inferior players that cant coupe with unlucky dices then the game is tilted for axis favour. Also a lot of the options are inferior in the game and the game becomes very linear for most players.

The standard bid is 13 ipc for allies in low luck 1941 scenario on tripple A, people buy 2 tanks for russiaand a inf into egypt.
I’m of a different opinion but I dont like the allies go all in europe and let japan go nuts and try to place my bids differently.
For dice the bid varies from 3-15 but most stop around 10 for allies and noone had bid under my 6. I will probably go down to 3 for allies, and one day I ll try to see how far down i get the bid with a win, I bet I can go down to negative bids.
