RE: What to use vs tanks
Infantry, Infantry, Infantry. An all tank army may be powerful offensively, but each time you hit them they get aprox. 1/2 less hit per round. when you have enough infantry build four to six tanks and swarm him.

A&A Variant that adds a twist to the game
Guys there is a set of rules I found that is nice to give the game an unpreditable twist. A direct link to the rules is below.
http://www.spring1942.com/JAG/Rules/
They are the Kremlin rules at Spring1942.com and I like the idea of making the game different each time you play. I hope you all like it. -

I agree, new strategies are often good against experienced players because they get caught off guard.
the best part is that they are fun though… -

RE: Favorite country
my favorite countries are- in order Japan, US, Germany, UK, Russia.
about the pacific, the only attention anyone should give it is Japan to take the Austrailias(not right away), take Hawaii(in order to strat bomb USA, (though bombers could better strat bomb Russia), Alaska (to distract US, but if it doesn’t distract them, then walk right in) Japan might also want midway if US has Long range aircraft.
US should take it outside (to the atlantic). -
RE: Where should D-Day landings go?
UK sould be flying spare fighters to Karelia until it falls, once it falls, kill it without amphibious (from finland), this way you have the option of retreating. I agree, cooperate with Russia to destroy anything that touches the Baltic Sea and then when your ready to land, hit Germany(unless Western Europe is weak). I see many players who have habits of evacuating Germany each turn, then filling it up with new units. If they do this then you may be killing a force composed of mostly fighters, bombers, and tanks. US should definitely help take Western Europe, and/or Southern Europe if it is weak. Russia should build a horde of infantry and try to keep a fighter or two, then if Germany lets up-SLAM infantry rush into Easter Europe (and Ukraine, of course)

RE: Radical U.S. First Turn Option
I feel strongly that tech rolls are an important part of the game (read some of my other posts), but buying six techrolls in one turn, much less on the first turn-is rediculous(sp.-i know). The US is one of the most important countries in the game and, in my opinion, they mostly do Britain’s job for him. Tech rolls advantages are tempting and should definitely be considered in most strategies, but don’t allow them to tempt you into sacrificing unit production too much. Japan and UK are in my opionion the only units that have the money to risk on large amounts of tech rolls (UK no more than three per round starting around round 3 or four; and Japan only three on the first and second turns combined, after that only up to two per turn until income hits 35+ after that up to 4 untill income gets so high the game is already won.) US is so important that I believe they should never buy more than one unless germany has fallen, and then perhaps two. They are required to capture and defend Africa and to attack West Europe. They also need to annoy Japan (IC in Sinkiang is usually a good idea). I know tech rolls are more valuable the longer you have them (specific examples are #'s 2, 5, 6) but the first turn or two is the setting up of the board for important action later and tech rolls can wait.

RE: Industrial Complexes
there is also a small possibility that the allies who attempted to take it out could get hit by the lone transport. lone tranny hits often happen in games I play
good idea (i think it was yanny)
if it doesn’t work it is only an 11 ipc loss
I was thinking about aa guns
they only cost 5 ipcs each and if you have one in a territory, then the opponent might hesitate to attack with planes, which is good. But if they ignore it and attack with planes anyway there is a chance that you could shoot down a 12-15 ipc unit before it gets to shoot at you.
also two (and one half) questions-how many aa guns can occupy a transport(and if it can hold two aa guns, can you put one inf and one aa gun?) Also can two aa guns occupy the same place?(that territory would still only get one shot per plane, I think)
Thanks for the switz IC idea, i’ll have to try that sometime.
Lastly if Japs invade Brazil, would they go right in (from the atlantic) or through a neutral country (from the pacific)? -
RE: A question to all…
I don’t know about you guys but whenever I get a video game that has cheats I beat it with cheats a few times, then with less cheats a few more times, then maybe one or two cheats and then finally with no cheats. It may be cheating but you still get the hang of it.
Also, you could play with bonus options from spring1942.com’s kremlin rules. The bonus options are designed to spice things up but they also benefit the countries. -
RE: The Game is broken
It probably won’t work, but
If Germany can take US, the allies are done for.
also, Germany could bluff (Britain invasion) then go US with Jap help
but still, it probably won’t work -
RE: Industrial Complexes
What about British S Africa, Jap Brazil?
what about AA guns?
They are not as expensive but still limited supply and annoying for people who use inf/fighter push -
RE: Something to think about…
I meant, if Japan didn’t attack, then what does US do with ships?
-
RE: Can allies win?
Gavin,
If you and a partner lose to someone else, that is still a loss
If it weren’t then I am undefeated as well (I have never played alone on a side, except maybe once or twice)
Also, I totally agree with playing myself when I have time, Its good to practice. Last time I played myself I learned about how to really annoy Japan.
What I meant by “Special” was maybe to look at it from a certain viewpoint. (like, go America first with axis and see what allies can do)

RE: About those bombers….
Also I wanted to add that if you are desperate, get heavies, and start buying bombers. THEN your enemies will try to destroy them at all costs, and since you are desperate and building 15 ipc units that defend at one die roll of one (or less ), you won’t be able to defend them very well.

RE: About those bombers….
Tech rolls are not meant to be a last resort. Odds are if yur desperate and get heavy bombers, you won’t have much money to but bombers. But if you are not desperate and get it, then its bombers, infantry and transports for you for the rest of a short game.
It is better to “set up” for tech. for example, if Britain plans on spending for research later, he can see that 3 out of six (four if you count industrial tech) help aircraft. So, they buy a ton of bombers, fighters, or whatever and start bothering Germany. When they are in a good position for the posible benifits(they are already bombing Germany and feel stepping it up), Then they start rolling die. Its not a gamble, just luck, or desperate its a calculated risk. Also, three dice for heaviesd is realistic because-if you have heavy bombers technology-you spent a significant sum for the technology, AND you still had to buy the Bombers at 15 ipc each, (maybe 14 ). If you get hit by three heavy bombers strat bombing with 9 die, then your enemy invested 45 ipcs+ the money they spent on tech. And, you have a fifty-fifty shot of hitting one bomber before it hurts you (you could even hit more)
I don’t often use it but, I also know a house rule (it came from Spring1942.com’s Kremlin rules, other very interesting rules there) In which there are no tech rolls until round five, THEN only two tech rolls per side (axis or Allies) until one side gets heavy bombers, then-unlimited tech rolls for both sides.
Thank you for reading my long post and please respondto it if you think I am wrong -
RE: America's Role
Americas Role, Do Britains job for him (protect Africa, assault Germany, hurt the Japanese mainland effort)
Britains role, help defend Russia, build and keep a fleet, and stay alive. oh and also: pretend to assault Germany, andhurt the Japanese mainland effort -
RE: Rockets
Ahh, well tahts too bad, as successful tech rolls cost about 30ipc on average.
I’d rather get Jet Power, Super Subs, Industrial Tech, LR aircraft, Heavy Bombers or oops I’ve already named everything elseTell me why and if you disagree.

Industrial Complexes
I was just wondering, what are every body’s views on purchasind Industrial complexes (And/Or AA guns). Who needs them, and where, and when?
Also, there are only three AA guns for sale each game, and four industrial complexes.
Here are my current opinions (subject to change)
Russia, can’t afford them, needs to try to survive on infantry long enough
UK, Maybe South Africa, Austrailia, India, I don’t see any other prospective spots
US, Sinkiang, maybe West Europe (if they take it)Germany, maybe Anglo Egypt Sudan, don’t see how they can afford much else
Japan, any of the well defended mainland territories (if wanting mainland tanks), Brazil, maybe Alaska, don’t see any other good looking spotsAA gun spots I see are:
Germany: East Europe, Finland, Ukraine (the Russian “big guns” are fighters)
Japan: maybe French Indo china, maybe Alaska/Brazil (if have IC and are getting bombed)Russia: Yakut, maybe Caucasus, can’t see uses anywhere else
UK India, maybe Gibralter (if using as airbase)
US maybe Alaska, Hawaii, Sinkiang, China. (all to help stop Jap air support if attacked)Thanks guys, I hope you all know something on this topic that I don’t because I didn’t find anything anywhere else (except “long post about Japanese Industrials”)
