Dzertfish nailed it. 8 years ago I spent 4 months touring the UK and I did meet a few American travelers with canadian flags on their backpacks. And the flags they had WERE larger than the one I had (though not 1 foot :-P )

RE: Lazy or working too hard?
@M36:
Virtually every job offers vacation. We do not need Uncle Sam to make laws telling us to do something if we are already doing it.
From the report, “90% of full-time jobs in the US have paid vacation”. That means 10% don’t. That’s hardly virtually every job.
But hey, if it doesn’t bother you guys (the citizens) then why change it? I know it would bother me. I know that EVERYONE that I work with looks forward to their vacation and holidays each year, and there would be hell to pay if anyone ever hinted that they would lose even one day of those.
I guess we’re just lazy.

RE: Triple A Glitches
Hey Gamer,
The edit feature is still being developed. Eventually I believe the plan was to be able to add units, but currently that part is not implemented. The current edit features are as follows:
Purchase - no functionality
Combat move - edit allows you to bypass the normal movement restrictions. You can move ships onto land, infantry into the sea, move aircraft 8 spaces, etc. It also allows you to move an opponent’s pieces. Use this if your opponent forgot to move something in their turn.
Combat - edit allows you to bypass dice, and choose battle casualties manually. If you roll a battle outside of tripleA (say using DAAK or the inhouse dicey) you could edit the battle results manually after the rolls. Or if you need to “fix” an outcome for some other reason you can do that here. This can also be used for LHTR heavy bomber combats (since LHTR bombers are not implemented), you can roll the combat separately and fix the results here.
Non-combat move - edit has same functionality as combat move
Mobilize - no functionality
I don’t know if you are aware or not, but this version of TripleA isn’t even a real release of the TripleA open source project. It’s a beta program based on an old stable release of the project that is in the middle of development and was being playtested by 4 of us. It was working so well that we just stopped using the other tools in favour of this. Word got out and others have now adopted it. Small bugs exists, yes (work arounds have been detailed for those bugs). Some features have not yet been implemented, yes. Documentation is lacking, yes. But this beta has so far proven to be very stable, and does what it was intended to do. Which is why we are using it. In the meantime work is progressing to add all of this new functionality (and more) into the next release of the TripleA open source project. Stay tuned. In the meantime if you choose to use this program (as I have) then understand what you are using. If not feel free to use whatever util you feel more comfortable with.
Even with it’s “bugs” I still prefer this tool to any other I’ve tried, and I have no intention of using any other util to play.
(not quite as good as Frood’s rant, I know)
Hope that helps.

RE: Lazy or working too hard?
Do you believe US citizens work hard enough to deserve vacation? Because your government doesn’t.

RE: DDR
Maybe I am a 14 year old kid. I don’t think I’d every bring myself to play it in public, mind you. But in the privacy of my own home…

DDR
I must be a geek because I really like this game (Dance Dance Revolution). Played it on the XBOX and it’s fun and challenging (and a good workout!)
Ok, I’ve put myself out there. Anyone else?

RE: Joke
Q: How do you tell a Canadian tourist from an American tourist in Europe?
A: The Canadian tourist has a 1 inch canadian flag sewn into their backpack. The American tourist has a 1 foot canadian flag sewn into theirs.

Lazy or working too hard?
The Centre for Economic and Policy Research came out with the following report:
http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/working_time_2007_05.pdf
The United States is the only advanced economy in the world that does not guarantee its workers
paid vacation. European countries establish legal rights to at least 20 days of paid vacation per year,
with legal requirement of 25 and even 30 or more days in some countries. Australia and New
Zealand both require employers to grant at least 20 vacation days per year; Canada and Japan
mandate at least 10 paid days off. The gap between paid time off in the United States and the rest of
the world is even larger if we include legally mandated paid holidays, where the United States offers
none, but most of the rest of the world’s rich countries offer between five and 13 paid holidays per
year.France and Finland at 30 seems like a lot of vacation, but the US at 0 is pretty ridiculous. Thoughts?

It is complicated to add AC logic to the game. There was some talk about adding an AC tracker to perform this functionality, but it hasn’t happened yet. The fix is easy though (so it is low on the priority list). Move the AC during combat move, then move the fighter, then undo the AC move. The fighter will stay.
-
LHTR is not implemented in TripleA (yet). OOB rules allow you to land planes in a territory with an industrial complex, then during your MOBILIZE phase this fighter can be moved to a new carrier. 99% of the time a fighter that could reach the seazone could also reach the IC territory. So just use OOB implementation for this. The few times where the fighter can’t reach the IC territory but can reach the sea zone (so couldn’t land on the AC with OOB but could with LHTR) use an edit to get the fighter to the AC. Easy fix.

This is supported, try it out!
Development is ongoing for TripleA, so as these are fixed new versions will be released. Check back to this forum for info on new releases.

RE: Liquidation start for the axis
You would need some serious placement rules for this though, or else I wouldn’t start the game with a single yellow unit - Everything starts German, and most of those units start in West Russia
-
RE: Norway on KGF
If UK has it’s original 30 IPCs of territories, plus ALG & LIB & belorussia and maybe trading EEU or WEU it has enough income to produce more than 8 units per turn, with no other viable IC location to place those units. In this situation I could see an ECA IC.

RE: Speaking of Religion…
I don’t think it was just homosexuals.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiv#Origin_and_discovery
The disease was originally dubbed GRID, or Gay-Related Immune Deficiency, but health authorities soon realized that nearly half of the people identified with the syndrome were not homosexual men. -
RE: Tired of KJF
I would have thought that Germany would threaten Russia/England more if the US pressure was in the Pacific. How is England even getting troops to Moscow? Why isn’t Germany cutting them off? How is Russia able to push back hard against Japan in Novo? How is it easy to keep Africa in Allied hands? If England goes to Africa that pulls more troops from Europe giving Russia an even harder time containing Germany.

RE: Looking for expansions
Why can’t you use minis pieces for regular A&A? Are they larger and won’t fit on the board? If not, I see no reason why they couldn’t be used in place of regular A&A pieces.

RE: New Theatres of War?
Why not make a WW3 game? The “Axis of Evil” Iran, North Korea vs. UN Allies?
-
RE: Trouble with US
@ncscswitch:
It is $84.
Starting Axis income plus the equivalent of Russia’s income.
:?
Starting Income
Germany: 32
Japan: 25
Russia: 24
Total: 81It is M84, but Switch’s math doesn’t add up in my book.

RE: San Diego
I think MADDOG was from Jacksonville, but I don’t think he’s around here anymore (and only plays Classic I think).

RE: Allied "Star" Strategy
Yeah, about the US Pac strat - I’m not sure it’s necessary early in the game. Particularly in this game where the only jap ship in the bottom of the ocean was the sz59 trn (big Whiff on Pearl defense!). The mighty Imperial Navy is difficult to go up against when they are untouched after Round 1…
Med fleet - true, but wasn’t necessary in this game to keep Africa…
Southern - rarely a real threat early-mid game, more of a gambit. If US moves to Southern, it is usually easily retaken by Germany, with no threat of further landings there because supply lines are too long for the US.
