Re: 1940 GLOBAL Strategies By Power hey young grasshopper, I’m a huge fan and have seen all of your walk throughs and even have purchased some of your axis and allies equipment like your card deck and dice. I wanted to run a strategy by by you that I pulled off against my friends while playing as the US. We did a unique house rule where every nation starts off with a research bc my group didn’t like the extra research for completing objectives that are your tournament rules. Needless to say they are a stubborn bunch, but I eventually talked to them into this. So as US my random research was upgraded subs. So knowing that all my friends have seen your streams I thought I’d try something unique and put the research to use. Now I think it’s a pretty solid strategy with out the research but hopefully you can put it to the test. So I start out for the first 3 (not in war) purchasing 3 subs each turn, and assortment of aircraft, carriers and other ships in the Atlantic’s. I was going for a improvised version of the floating bridge strategy. No the less I continued to build up my fleet of submarines until I had 15 subs, and paired them with 2 carriers full of fighters, a battleship and 4 destroyers in the pacific. Now of course japan was running a muck and by turn 5 captured Calcutta. Now my main focus was in the Atlantic, however my navy did not sit and wait in defense. I went after the japan fleet that only had 2 destroyers Among it. I ended up destroying everything in my way. I played gorilla Tattics inwhich if they had a massive air superior left (seeing how mother my subs could hit it and they couldn’t hit the subs) I would engage my fleet, use as many subs as cannon fodder until they were left with planes and I would retreat basically always keeping my surface ships alive. I did this the rest of the game basically keeping japan land locked and convoying them until I was able to break through Germany in which the game was called due to time. I’d figured I’d share this with you bc even though I had the upgraded subs I feel that it will still be a very effective strategy of sweeping out the Japanese fleet from the pacific. My reasoning is bc most players don’t buy a bulk of destroyers at a time. If they do then they ended up with weaker defense. Then during combat if they remove the destroyers first as cannon fodder than it leaves you with a free first strike on the rest of their ships. Than when there was no ships left you retreat to save your planes and ships. Basically if they have planes you never want to fully make it your planes and ships vs their planes bc it would end up costing you your big weapon items that work in tandem with your subs. I had so much success with this strategy that I Figured I share it with you and maybe you could try it out in a day at the bunker.

RE: Buying and using submarines
@Aaron_the_Warmonger hahaha to that last comment. I really only use the subs with US bc they can serve more of a purpose with them than any other nation. I don’t recommend buying subs for UK or USSR. That would just be a waste of income that you can buy planes with for UK and infantry for the USSR

RE: Optimal Japanese opening move
@barnee your absolutely right! I have had a lot of games in which a J1 has been very effective. Especially if you do a Pearl Harbor attack and win. You severely cripple the US. Yeah they get the money right back but they basically have to take a few turns rebuilding. So there is a lot of merit to a J1 atrack.

@Cow is there a Russia playbook?

RE: Optimal Japanese opening move
@taamvan though I agree that crippling Germany is challenging you really can slow it down if UK builds up a fleet in Canada and Air Force in London. Than you convoy any where possible and continuous bomb the factories. You will take loses but your spending your income delaying and slowing down Germany’s offensive which buys Russia more time and allows US to get involved. That’s about the only ways that I know that is effective against a powerful German player. You have to keep your fleet off the GB coast line to protect against a air assualt. Need to be able to scramble.

RE: Optimal Japanese opening move
@DCWhat the US. Bc they get brought into the war early, a smart player will not pump all its money in the pacifc and will separate between the 2 theaters. However If japans attacks are successful thanit really crippled the US in the pacific. A smart player will not try to pump all their money in a losing fight. I would just play defense at that point and let japan own the pacifc bc Germany rolls Russia every game if Russia does not get help.

RE: Buying and using submarines
@Shin-Ji building subs early on does make your fleets defense weak but if your the aggressor and hunting down the Japanese fleets, your offensive power is very strong! And in a early game strategy where all I wanted to do was keep japan land locked and had Anzac and UK mop up the islands while I as the US focused on Europe. That strategy works very well. If forces japan to build a crap ton of destroyers which then you can switch to as well and eventually out produce his. If you keep a couple carriers with fighters in your fleet of subs and destroyers that navy is deadly on the offense. You definitely don’t want to be caught on defense. So it takes a lot of tactical moves like hit and runs. For example if you attack a fleet with multiple carriers and planes and they have like 1-2 destroyers. One those are dead the planes can’t hit subs so they are free to mop up the surface fleet. Once the battle gets down to just their air units in defense I would retreat to keep your air units alive because than it because your air and surface ships vs their air and you don’t want to lose your surface ships or air. So retreat and let them keep your air. You cleared the boats that’s the biggest part
