Ah, the English Language. I recently have fallen in love with Quiznos sandwiches (haven’t really had them in life). Double Cheesesteak is unreal. I’d have those with some Arby’s fries any day.

Yes sir! But im afraid he’s just a puppet of sorts. The last guy i found out got fired because some of their fantasy RPG noob games dropped in sales. This will have little impact on AH because its still a company sitting on the back burner. Nobody is pushing Avalon Hill to success. All these people are all minimalists doing the least amount of work as possible. No marketing whatsoever is going on except for a few perfunctory “news releases” ,No print media advertisement , no forum support, no special online demos, nothing but crickets. Its a joke and they should all be ashamed.

I will always stand by my view that WOTC is slowly destroying Avalon Hill by neglect. The decision making on what is being produced is not following any overall plan and its got a few titles being circulated from past fortunes made, but no new ideas and the few new ideas that come out are not based on any feedback from the consumer. Making Diplomacy is a mistake along with Acquire. These games are not bringing new people into the hobby as the people who play them already have all the different versions. Diplomacy Deluxe is still the best version ever made san the original Key games version with the larger board.

They should embrace the titles from the heyday: Stalingrad, Afrika Corps, Anzio, Luftwaffe, France 40, rail baron, D-Day, Russian Campaign, Midway, etc… Make these games and bring back The General magazine. You can make these games with pieces, blocks, or counters. All these ideas and they decide on “Acquire”? you gotta be kidding me or what?

You can growl at me all you want… This was merely meant as a memorial for those who fell…

OK, here’s another question:  If someone said you must fight in a war, and offered you one of 3 fighting vehicles to use, which one would you choose - a tank, a fighter jet, or a small, armed, water-craft?

I chose the tank, if only because it seems really cool to be heavily protected, while being able to dish out quite a bit of damage.  :mrgreen:

If I had to, I would choose:

1.  The medical van.  Because nobody really wants to shoot the medical van.
2.  The fighter jet.  Puke and pass out, but whee!
3.  The tank.  Because if I get blown up, hopefully the munitions will ignite and my end will be quick.  Also, I can pretend I didn’t hear orders. “wuzzat, the tank was too loud . . . retreat, you say?”
4.  The small, armed, water-craft.  Because of chemicals that can burn your skin in the water, and if you survive that, the fishies that like to eat you, and if you survive that, the dehydration and the sunburn.

they werent.  but the library of alexandria had a lot of monks, priests, and other laymen all over that place.  if they wanted to save some stuff they could have, and probably did, but let the rest burn.

Hard to say. A large part was that I identified so much with one of the main characters, Larry. Not so much in his appearance, personality, or relationships with people (though one relationship he had in particular I saw as very similar to one of mine), but more in his character, his interests, his motivations, and his mannerisms. I saw a lot of myself in that (and I make that evaluation without considering it either inherently good or bad), so a lot of his experiences and choices in the book resonated with me, and made me consider my own. Additionally, the manner in which much that happened in the book was regarded by the author (who is, incidentally, the narrator), I found very appealing, and agreed with it to a substantial degree. It wasnt even that this led to an outright challenge to my previously held beliefs, just that they offered such a fresh new way of looking at things (from my perspective anyway), that I was struck with how simple and reasonable these opposing ideas seemed.

I read TR Frehenbach’s This Kind of War (it’s about the Korean War)
every June for the last 4 years.

I also reccomend, Stanley Karnow’s, Vietnam.

Recently, I’m reading Ernest R. May’s, Strange Victory. It’s about how the French lost against The Germans in 1940.
