I screwed up the movie time and had to watch it in 3D. This was my first 3D movie I’ve seen in theaters since Ice Pirates I think, back in the 80’s. I wear glasses so I’ve always thought today’s 3D glasses were a pain in the balls but they weren’t bad, just wish they were larger. I kept noticing the frames during the movie. George Miller said he made this movie to favor the 2D experience but the 3D version will “hold it’s own.”

The good news Tom Hardy fans, (myself included) is that last month, he signed on for 3 more Mad Max films!

I don’t like 3D in theaters for the same reason, frames get in the way of the big screen experience.

Him signing on is just a precautionary obligation actors are asked to do which makes the prospect of additional movies likely. If they want to make more money with a sequel down the road, best to have the actor in your pocket first… it doesn’t mean there will be more, but with the success of Fury Road and the demand for hero/villain action flicks that look like they were ripped from the pages of a graphic novel , it seems like a good bet that there will be.

So the rest of the world especially the middle east have it all wrong?  I suspect the reason why crusader is such a dirty word in the middle east is because bad things happened when they showed up.  Lets say for argument sake the Crusaders really were great nice folks.  How do we convince those who think otherwise they are wrong?  By calling them evil, hateful, rapists who love war?

Religion and Politics for good reason are topics to avoid during parties, particularly when there are guns and booze around.

I think we are mature enough here that these topics and be talked about if we all respect the others point of views and beliefs.  Frimmel and  LHoffman impressed me with their ability to agree to disagree.  The only reason I came to this thread is that you raised it from the dead so to speak.

[Not sure if these are in order of importance of not, we can argue that after we create a list]
Also assuming a 1-on-1 game.  Team dynamics are a whole other discussion.

1).   Experience

Knows the game and the ‘better’ strategies and more important territories as well some of the nuances of the game (like sub / DD interaction / vulnerabilities as well as how to coordinate moves with your allies countries)

2).  Vision / Ability to see 2-3 rounds down the road in a game.

If you can not see what your opponent is trying to do to you or have a strategy for your side (at least a general one), it’s hard to win.  Knowing HOW to win is not hard (your objectives), you can gleen that from the rules, knowing HOW to achieve those are much more vital

3).  Understanding / mitigating the risks

Take good odds battles, unless you are falling behind, you might starting increasing your risks in order to increase your chances of winning.

4).  Determining who is winning / losing (very tightly related to 3)

If you think you are winning when you are in fact losing, your moves may be counter productive.  An example helps to explain my point.  If I think I am winning, I may have no sense of urgency to force my opponent to counter my move(s), or properly increase my risk exposure.

5).  Being able to realize AND take advantage of an opportunity

Many times in games, a battle may go awry for/against you (dice will do that!).  Sometimes it can be so bad that no level of contingency plan you have created can save you EXCEPT for your opponents failure to realize and exploit this weakness.  Good players recognize these situations.

6).  Realizing any unit is disposable to meet your objective(s)

Often times, a player is hung up on the COST of some units that are risked/lost.  “Oh, I took france but it cost me 3 bombers to do it!”
Well that just might be the best move for the situation, ESPECIALLY if you can afford it or needed that battle to get back into the game (see #3 about mitigating the risks)

I’m hard pressed to put it into words. I think opposed isn’t the most precise word for it. I just don’t like them.

They seem as much geared to a need for instant gratification as opposed to seeking the best. They feel like when teachers allow extra work at end of term to make up for low test scores or other poor performance earlier on.

I think they diminish the regular season. They often create situations where one team has to beat another twice to be conference champion.

They feel more geared to society’s seeming fascination with seeing the mighty brought down than with the raising up of persistent excellence.

The conference championships and especially calls for a playoff seem to fall back on some sort of law of the jungle meme, you couldn’t beat me today so I’m the best! But that oppurtunity seems to be handed out on making an exception to that rule. “What do you mean my pleas for fairness are unfair to you? Who said life is fair?”

It comes across like extending the race one more mile because you didn’t like the winner.

Maybe it is that it can often seperate in my thinking ‘best’ and ‘champion.’
