• Can I ask a question about Turkey at War expansion for Global War 1936.
To make an influence roll you pay 2 IPP with the ability to pay another 1 IPP to increase your roll success from 3 to 4.
Does all 3 IPP go to Turkey or is it just the additional 1 IPP.
I am unsure on reading the rules as it appears Turkey can get a lot of money if players are unsuccessful if getting successful rolls

  • Just the additional 1 IPP.

While we are here, Does turkey still collect income when they are neutral and not aligned?

And once they are aligned, does that pot go to the major power and they can now attack together (in effect one nation)?

  • Hello, the 2 IPP that each nation must pay just to make an influence roll do not go to anybody (TAW 1.2), they are just spent.

The extra IPPs (not limited to 1 IPP) that may be payed to increase the chance of success by +1 are lend-leased to Turkey and set aside until it becomes Aligned (Table 1-1 and TAW 1.4).

My understanding is that if and when Turkey becomes Aligned, it will have available to spend its starting income of 1 IPP, its peacetime income of 1 IPP per turn, plus any additional IPPs that may have been lend-leased during the influence process.

  • @insanehoshi The rules are pretty clear that Turkey is an independant nation. It keeps its own income seperate from its allies:

1.5 Turkey as a Player Country (Played on same turn as controlling power)

    (a) National Reference Sheet: Refer to the Turkish National Reference
sheet to run Turkey as an independent player country.

    (b) Builds: Turkey may build off the Minor Build Chart. Once it has
Aligned it may build off the chart of the Major Power it has Aligned with
    (except for advanced technology).

    c) Declaration of War: Even if Turkey becomes Aligned to a Major
Power an independent l run Turkey is not forced to declare war and can
remain neutral until it wishes to. Other nations can declare war on Turkey
    as per Global War Rules.

  • @noneshallpass said in Turkey At War:

    Once it has Aligned

But the word aligned as per the main rulebook explicitly means that they are in effect one nation?

  • If you are not playing with the Expansion, then yes, Aligned means that the minor power ceases to exist and you can replace its units with those of the Aligned Major Power (rule 4.4).

However, TAW 1.5 c) says otherwise : it is an independently run nation.

TAW 1.3 adds that it is an independent player country run by Italy (if Axis), France/Free France
(if Allied) or the USSR (if Comintern).

Therefore, in the Expansion, the Turkish forces are not replaced with the “running” power’s forces. Both its economy and units are separate. Same as ANZAC or FEC, even if they are allied with Great Britain within the Commonwealth.

  • @insanehoshi “Aligned” doesn’t mean one nation, it just means “at war with the same major power.” With a power without a reference sheet, this means that you move at the same time, fight at the same time, and, most importantly, give your money to the major power. With Turkey, the money is separate.
