    Additionally, you had the option of scrambling from Japan on the US turn (tac + fighter), but the odds looked very bad for that choice.  I didn’t scramble your planes, but we can redo that combat if you thought that was the wrong decision.

    I definitely want to scramble 3 German fighters to defend the Italian cruiser.  And yes (against just four planes) I wanted to scramble the fighter and tac bomber in Japan.  I had two planes that I could easily replace but the transports I wanted to at least try to protect them.

  • I lost a fighter and a tac.  You lost your two planes.  If you ever need to roll dice on the forum, you can use the words :Bice 1d6:    Change that Bice to Dice.  It can be useful if you have declared attacks but haven’t started rolling, and want to change your attacks.

    It can also be useful in this case where I wanted to go ahead with other moves that wouldn’t be affected by your scramble choice.  The main downside is if your destroyer had shot down my entire airforce, you would have had the smart choice to keep that outcome and not scramble.

    Everything is fine.  But what I don’t understand is (with only one carrier) how is it mathematically possible for you to get 2 fighters AND the tactical bomber in on Sea Zone 6?  One would have to crash as it would never have enough range to land anywhere safely.


  • The aircraft carrier was done in non-combat movement.  As long as it is conceivable that there is a carrier to catch them, the planes can attack.  You don’t have to actually go through with the pickup if your planes are shot down.

    I did have 2 carriers that could reach the pickup zone.  I had used them both in the original move, but edited it to use only one when I rerolled for your scramble and hence lost a couple of planes.

    I would have happily traded my strategic bomber for your British Cruiser.  But of course, I missed and (well) you hit.  And no bonuses for me.  Not a good start.

  • We can always do low luck games if you don’t like the vagaries of dice.  TripleA has that option.  If you attack with six bombers, you are guaranteed 4 hits.  If you defend with 6 infantry, you are guaranteed 2 hits.  If you had 7 infantry, you get 2 hits plus a 2/6 chance of getting a third hit.  It allows you to precisely calculate how many units you need to win a combat.  That takes away most of the randomness.
