@Arthur:
I think that everything was done in accordance to your wishes and the rolling was transparent. Let me know if there was anything that you disagree with.Â
Everything is fine. But what I don’t understand is (with only one carrier) how is it mathematically possible for you to get 2 fighters AND the tactical bomber in on Sea Zone 6? One would have to crash as it would never have enough range to land anywhere safely.
-
The aircraft carrier was done in non-combat movement. As long as it is conceivable that there is a carrier to catch them, the planes can attack. You don’t have to actually go through with the pickup if your planes are shot down.
I did have 2 carriers that could reach the pickup zone. I had used them both in the original move, but edited it to use only one when I rerolled for your scramble and hence lost a couple of planes.
-
Just. Bad. Luck.
I would have happily traded my strategic bomber for your British Cruiser. But of course, I missed and (well) you hit. And no bonuses for me. Not a good start.
-
I had one game where Germany lost 4 strat bombers over 4 rounds before finally killing the British cruiser.

Stuff like that is just stupid. These are things that turn war gamers off of A&A sometimes.

We can always do low luck games if you don’t like the vagaries of dice. TripleA has that option. If you attack with six bombers, you are guaranteed 4 hits. If you defend with 6 infantry, you are guaranteed 2 hits. If you had 7 infantry, you get 2 hits plus a 2/6 chance of getting a third hit. It allows you to precisely calculate how many units you need to win a combat. That takes away most of the randomness.

I have never faced a German player who holds Iceland so strongly. Ingenious! Meanwhile Japan is in trouble because China is so strong and it is difficult to get more troops to the mainland. You needed to have captured Yunnan on J1, even with the DOW on the Allies.
I personally don’t do a J1 attack on the Allies if I see that Russia is bringing units to help out China. I find that China gets out of control and I need the first two rounds of Japan to focus on eliminating Chinese power. As the Allies, I love the Russian support for China since it allows the US to shift focus to the Atlantic a round earlier. Japan has to spend too much money on the mainland to build as big of a fleet.

When I wait a turn, I don’t get any of the 4 juicy islands with Japan. ANZAC and India get too much of an edge in getting all goodies. It turns into too much of a fight for money. I suppose it is no better if I wait two turns

I usually do a J2 declaration of war unless I find that Russia is extremely aggressive in Asia and I need my planes to crush the forces. About 90% of the league players also do J2 DOW since it can be difficult to hold on to Yunnan if Russia sends in a couple planes, a tank, and a mech infantry to help out. If you do a J1 DOW, it is critical that you get Yunnan. Otherwise China has additional forces and can start building artillery on China1. Cow has a great set of articles on axisandallies.org on his recommendations for a J1 attack plan. I used to always do his strategy until I met aggressive Russian players.

Why couldn’t I “scramble” and kill the Russian Sub?
-
You had no destroyer so your planes can’t target the sub.
-
@Arthur:
You had no destroyer so your planes can’t target the sub.Â
Well that sucks. I hate the rule. Oh well, live and learn. Did my cruiser even get a shot or did you just automatically sink everything because, there is no destroyer there?
-
Incidentally, you kicked my @ss in China this turn. I lost a plane.
-
That is China’s job!
