Did my sub hit you first? I suppose the presence of my DD while also having a sub allowed my sub to make a surprise attack first? I think that is the natural order of combat. If you would have had a DD too I would not have had a surprise attack.
If I am mistkaen then I suggest you just roll your attack on the forums :-)
