Good point, you choose casualties before rolling defense. And likely even with my bad attack rolls you would’ve played it safe, and chosen the slightly more valuable but worse defenders the cruisers first. Having no idea how bad or good your defensive rolls would be.

Although you just gave me an idea. I was planning on slogging it out, using the bombers from malta to get the odds more in my favor. Running away past Denmark seems like the better idea so I get to keep my navy, now that I nuked the cruiser with the Russian sub.
