If Japan is declaring war on everyone like in real life, the Allies should just do what they did in history. Wait to build your forces and catch small isolated units of the Japanese fleet. Hold on to India and Australia. Germany first.

The most effective russian players I’ve encountered are the ones that are able to build up a force that is able to threaten a counter on a german stack. If a good german player wants to go for Moscow they are able to get it, however I’ve seen plenty games where the UK/USA are putting enough pressure on the  German player for him to stop just in front of Moscow. If the Russian player only has bought inf at this point there is not much of a threat for the German player to keep russia contained and slowly kill it economically. However if there is a stack of paired inf/art the pushback power is a lot bigger and thus Germany can be challenged and Russia may be able to break the German wall.

As Japan, I normally J2 DOW but take FIC J1. This generally is good enough to take down Calcutta and normally keep it down. I also mostly ignore China until I have India, except Anwhe, Kweichow, Hunan and Yunnan.

I totally agree about the mutual annihilation attack being bad for Japan. Then the ANZAC can keep a fleet alive.

As for my most epic comeback. I was axis. Berlin was turtled up with allies surrounding it in aa50. Japan was ready to attack moscow next round, I just had to survive berlin one more round. Rome was American

Allies all in berlin, uk goes first with about 60% odds. uk fails, usa goes with about 80% odds… fails. Germany scores improved artilly and blows up taking back territories. Japan goes to hit russia to end the game, with 1.5 tanks for every russian inf and 6 fighters for his 2… Japan loses hard.

Anyway 5 rounds later the game is still going the battles still raging. Germany blew up in europe to make 10 inf/arty a turn. italy only made 3 inf.

Japan with armor units to match infantry just couldn’t take russia every round 14 armor coming in hot, just no dice. Then the all in on berlin happens one more time… back to back uk / usa. usa draws with germany, berlin was empty.

then finally Japan took russia. uk failed berlin, usa got it. Meanwhile in the pacific. Japan in desperation attacked hollywood 1 armor and LRA that it discovered and took hollywood. USA had two armor on east usa, and japan defended.

that was epic.

I was rolling 3 tech rolls for about 10 rounds with japan and finally got something lol, perfect timing cos I just bought bombers on japan last turn.

If germany doesn’t have many transports, be sure to slide a few infantry and artillery up into Karelia to force your way into Scandinavia to get those nice No’s and reinforce with Brits and US, let the cash role in

Since a 2nd printing is not too far off, I’m just going to wait until then.  I am very excited to buy and play this version of A&A since I had played the Classic and Europe versions well over 100 times.  Is the general thinking that the 2nd printing of both Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 will be available in Q4 of 2012?

Depends on what the counterattack looks like, no?  If all they can bring is two infantry, I think I might go with the tank.  Dunno how to calculate financial value on that one, though.

A little off topic but here it is  last nite ALPHA+2 and operation Barbarossa was successful. I fought hard as Russia but there was not enough help and Russia fell. I had two good counter offensives and two very good goal line stands,  not enough I need to figure out what to say to them to have try to help. other than “hey I could use some help here” or “there’s no way I can hold them back I need help”
  I hope Russia is a bit more resilient with the A3 set up

  It was a good game and they had some outstanding dice 11 out of 13 hits and 8 out of 9 hits and I think they had one that was 12 out of 14.  The dice won the game for them
