Sorry to interrupt but I’m interested in OOB play tests and you seem to be the last ones playing OOB. Online, it seems like the conclusion was that the game was broken because the Japanese could steam roller after an early declaration of war and conquest of India. However, I always suspected that that was only for the Pacific only game, because with America at 70+ ipcs after a DOW, and the ability to throw all of that money into the Pacific, how could they not stop the Japanese? In addition, we did not have split map victory conditions in those days, so the Japanese couldn’t just single handedly get the win in a global game.
However, I also realize that the strategies have evolved, so I’m wondering are you finding OOB to be balanced or in favor of the allies?
-
For me, it’s undecided (I’d need more games to ensure this). My impressions until now are that probably the game is balanced under Barbarossa. Since this is my first game against a full Sea Lion, I cannot decide yet. Some people say that Sea Lion is unavoidable if Germany really tries (and seems true) and that Sea Lion means auto-Axis victory if well played. I have to decide yet about this, but it doesn’t seem so bad as at first sight could seem. Any case, Sea Lion is a tricky scenario for both sides, but probably needs more coordination in case of Allies, specially USA’s player
India is not a lost cause in G40, and that is one of the things I’m pretty sure. I have to lose India yet (Allies lose Moscow before in most games)
And the split victory conditions … I think that they are not a need to prevent ignore-Japan strats because you can raid WUSA and attack America with a so big cash (kill Australia first, those 10 IPCs are neat), and if you ignore Japan, that’s the best chance for Japan to take India. But the split victory conditions are good to prevent your rival force you a sluggish long game that probably Axis is going to win anyway
