• Looking to spend around 1000$ for a new laptop

    The laptop is for :
    1- school
    2- video and movies
3- Adobe Indesign (a program that allows me to make journals)
4- Being able to play games is a bonus
5- HDMI output is a bonus

I’m not interested in HP (unless you have very good arguments). My current laptop (HP) failed me

Hesitating between Sony Vaio and Apple (apple is more than 1000$ though). Some suggested the notebook (the small computer, cheap, but great for school only)

  • are these models for the USA?

  • yea, they are available for the US. I’m in Canada :(

  • @Omega:

yea, they are available for the US. I’m in Canada :(

    What’s the difference?

  • meaning 999$ converted to about 1000++$ canadian. Add in the terrific shipping costs = above my 1000$ that I want to spend

I got a 2007 model Macbook Pro for about $1000 on ebay. I specifically sought one out with an active warranty on it, so you might be able to find something even cheaper. It is a great system too, usually above 2 GHz processing speed and plenty of Ram. Depends on if you’re into apple because the game selection is not as wide, but I’ve found it to be relatively open as far as options…

I’m an Apple fan, you can probably tell. If you’re used to windows and don’t want to change, I used a dell from 2007 to 2009 and I found their laptops to be pretty solid both in make and what it could do. Very all around feel to Dell for me, not specialized but definitely will give you a bang for your Canuck buck…

  • It’s not a Canuck buck, it’s a Canuck loonie. Wait a minute is that loonie or loony?

  • I’ve looked on Ebay. But due to my lack of knowledge of Apple, I’d rather avoid it. I don’t enough to prevent someone from ripping me (not stealing money, but selling me something that isn’t worth that much)

I’ll go have a look at dell

Yeah, you could go to craigslist, and then make sure that the other person is willing to meet with you and show off the merchandise.

  • I’ve checked some Asus model. 3 caught my attentions (for their Graph card and the memory)

Valuewise, which one would you go for?

  • A good friend of mine who knows a lot about computers recommended the ASUS G72 for under $1000. I am not qualified to tell you which is the better deal from the selection that you mentioned. It is probably going to come down to your individual needs.
