man that looks cool
I want USS Pegasus
Greetings, long time player. Began playing A&A 1st edition (yeah, WAYYYY back there). Played the crap out of 2nd edition, revised, and now playing 1942 weekly. Played many other simpler games, too like Risk and Settlers of Catan.
We’re ready to try a new game, be it another A&A or something completely different. I’m considering Advanced Squad Leader. I’m open to recommendations for any strategic war board game.
Have you tried Memoir '44
There is a great tactical hex and counter WWII game called Valor and Victory. It is a free print and play game. Just download the files and print them out. There are quite a few scenarios on Board Game Geek that are available for down load. There are also some reviews of the game and people are calling it ASL light. I played 2 turns of a scenario game called Messenger Ambush. It was a lot of fun and fast paced. Check it out at:

I only played 2 turns because it was a long day and I started really late. The rules are easy enough to follow.
Did you ever get a full game in and what did you think?

I played the first scenario, Messenger Ambush, a few times with my 13 year old son. Since I have been getting into ASLSKs that is all I have been playing. The tutorials for the first two scenarios in SK #1 are time consuming to go through. After those I am going to go through the first two game tutorials in SK #2. I found a ASL club in town called Omaha Beach and going to start playing with the leader of that group next weekend. There are a lot of rules to remember in the SKs so hopefully getting some f2f games in will help in remembering the rules.
Here is a solitaire squad level game I played back in the 80’s. I might even still have it.
I have heard good things about the Ambush game. I looked at another solitaire game called D-Day at Omaha Beach and on BGG and there was discussion there somewhere of Ambush. D-Day at Omaha Beach is supposed to be a difficult game to beat. Looks fun.
Just noticed that link is bad, you need the exclamation point which for some reason won’t associate with the link.
Just copy and paste it into the address bar.
You can check out D-Day at Omaha Beach here:
