In the past we have all complained about the lack of support Hasbro/Avalon Hill/Wizards of the Coast has shown toward our beloved Axis & Allies. Today I came to the realization that A&A is not the only product that has been produced and then dropped by said companies. Take, for example, Battle Cry by Richard Borg. It, too, was produced by Avalon Hill and then abandoned. They produced the game, sure, but they failed to promote and support it, from fan based material to downloadable scenarios & extras, etc. Just wanted to point out that we, as A&A gamers, aren’t the only ones being dumped on by Hasbro/Avalon Hill/Wizards of the Coast.
Battlecry is a nice little game. I have a set which I never seem to be able to play. Been considering selling it.
Battlecry does survive in the form of Memoir '44 and Battlelore. The Memoir '44 sets I know to be nicer than the Battlecry ones. There are a few threads in this forum on Memoir.
Yeah, I own Memoir '44 and several of its exspansions. I would have liked to seen the same support for Battle Cry that is given to Memoir. If you go onto the Days of Wonder website there is all kinds of material to aid your M’44 gameplay. While AH, on the other hand, just shipped out a game without any additional scenarios,player aids, etc.
There is some talk of a reprint. I hope, if this is true, that Battle Cry will receive all the backing it deserves from its publisher.
There was a site - I think it was the designer Richard Borg’s site - that had a lot of extra scenarios and other stuff for Battle Cry - don’t know if it’s still around…
Thanks frimmel. I’ll have to give that site a look.
Battle Cry is a great card driven game.
@Brain:
Battle Cry is a great card driven game.
That whole system is a nice little system. Seems like luck is a major factor but it is a lot like Backgammon where you can be smart and make the most out of bad cards. Not a lot you can do with disastrous cards but…
Yes - Thanks!
You’re welcome. :-)
Just bought a copy of this not long ago. It’s great! Super easy to learn, so easy to find players, and I’ve played 4 games that all finished in about an hour and half each. No 6 hour mega matches for us married guys…
Short games are also something this game has going for it.
I was at Origins several years ago and they had a ‘giant’ set-up. Big painted minis, scenery. Looked sorta like this:
Awesome pic Frimmel, makes me want to play it again.
