I believe anyone who was abused (for lack of a better word) by Goverment officals because they are Black (or any other race for that matter) during their lifetime should be compensated. However, something that happened 150 years ago to my Great Great Grandfather doesn’t matter.

So… compensate for those abused during the 70s and 60s, not the 1870s and 1860s.

this of course hearkens to the church-run schools abuses in Canada as well - where Anglican churches and the federal government are sued by natives who have “suffered” at the hands of these institutions.
The thing is, when your governement is being sued for faults (see wrongly convicted Thomas Sophenow) - the Canadian people are being sued at the same time, regardless of whether they voted for this government or had anything to do with the problems created by said government.
(I bring up the Anglican Church thing as many Anglican churches today might well say “well we had nothing to do with these occurrances, why should our adherents suffer?”)

People can prove they were attacked by Fire Hoses or Police Dogs during a peaceful march. People can prove they lived in a state where laws prohibited them from going into a public building.

Europe wont look up to us. They are waiting for us to fail. We broke away and instead of having a king and royal family, put in a president and a democracy.

Kind of like when you have a family of Trailer trash, but 1 cousin makes it out of the trailor park and starts his own buisness. He is doing great, but the family he left behind doesnt like him anymore.

Did it ever change/adapt to the changing world around it? And i mean not just a bit, but change big time, as the difference between 1776 and 2002 is a rather huge one.
We have steam engines, railways and telegraphs nowadays :)

Why that?
(More important: why should i care what you think of me? Even if it sounds arrogant, you still have some way to go to find your own way. After that i will decide wether your judgement upon me matters or not.)

Because i take the responsibility of my people?
I know our history, what crimes we have committed. And beside of paying (the least you can do) for the survivors, more important is to never let it happen again!
