I’m about to arrange an A&A 2 vs 2 tournament via PBF.
Hereby searching for participants (we have at todays date 5 applicants).
If interested, please notify me by writing in this thread (follow the link).
So, what will it be Gagantua, a friendly game, or a competitive war?
In all honesty, people are at their BEST in a friendly game. The calibre of the competetion is much improved, if I let you fix simple/obvious errors, to the benefit of the quality of the game, and you do the same for me.
Thus, the more competetive game, IS the friendlier one.
Agreed
Now on that note, I personally let most everything slide, with a few exceptions. For example, the allied player made a mistake… and acts on the axis players turn BEFORE dice are rolled, 99 times out of 100, that mistake will be allowed to be corrected. If dice have been rolled however, it is FULLY at the discretion of the effected oppossing player.
Also, if one asks, “Can I start my turn now?” or “Is it Russia yet?” or “is that the end of your move?” can be construed as a deciding factor when say, I swoop in and take your capital. You can argue it was a mistake you left it open, and that no dice were rolled yet, but the fact it was clearly asked if your move was over trump that defense.
Another example of this is: All combat movements have been made, and that player announces that they will begin their resolve combat phase starting with an attack in a particular sea zone. The defending player than announces that they will in fact scramble from an air base adjacent from that sea zone, but the attacking player says :dam…. I didn’t see that you could scramble". Even in our friendly games, our groups don’t forgive these types of things because we are all above average players, we should know where bases are, and we all have 2 teammates to help point out things like base positions during the combat movement phase. Thats why we announce when our combat movement phase ends and when our resolve combat phase begins, because regardless of weather or not dice have been rolled… we don’t consider the rolling of dice as the line between the 2 phases for the reasons we have both outlined. Also, we allow players to change their purchases at any time before the resolve combat phase begins, we don’t allow purchase changes afterwards, because we feel that players shouldn’t be allowed to change purchases depending on if combat rounds end poorly or favorably for them. Everything else for us, is forgivable.
In General however all mistakes are usally considered by the group, and team captains, and for the enjoyment of the game are let go, and allowed as corrected, In my experience, this is what occurs 90% of the time.
Bickering about crap like:
- you touched that piece you have to move it, OR
- you loaded that transport in combat movement as opposed to non combat movement, OR
- forgot to land your plane so it’s dead.
Shouldn’t happen.
Agreed
That’s when the fun is taken out of it, and someone loses because even though they bought there units, they forgot to place them on their turn, therefore aren’t allowed to place them now, and thus LOSE. Too lame for me.
That said, I would like to mention that certain phycological tactics in a “friendly game” like this might be considered unsportsmanlike. Tactics like mixing up a large American naval force into a big unrecognizable pile of rubble, Taunting a player with sh!t talk while he is in the middle of his turn, or expressing fits of rage at the dice gods by throwing them across the room (feel free to name more if I have forgot something).
And we are going to be there in force YG. Don’t worry.
Thats good, because after I printed some of your teams online games to familiarize myself with some of your Allied strategies (I hope thats not considered unsportsmanlike as I only wish to prepare my team), I noticed that you all play the Axis a lot, and I thought you might have been sour about drawing the Allies.
WANT TO KILL!!! Enigmatic_Decay…… Salivates then Growls

If you want blood…. you’ve got it
If you want blood… you’ve got it
If you want blood… you’ve got it
If you want blood… you’ve got iiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttt… aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhaaaaahhahhahhhhhh.
YG,
What if I want more than just blood?
What if I want innards?
What if I want bone? (no not that bone! wipe the grin of your face)
What if I want Teeth? (again curb the sarcasm!)
What if I want DNA? (Not so scary sounding but the implications are!)
What if I want to Dance? (Now that’s terrifying!)
Finally……
What if I unleash the Fluff? (Game, Set Match! Team YG wins!)

You forgot brains and scalps, and yes, you can have it all this April.
Hearts too?
Just throwing this out there…. If we are going to go BIG… Anyone interested in doing Global 1939… Jeremy D6 varient with all the HBG and FMG Goodies included?
Just an Idea. Maybe a little TOO EPIC for you?
I’ll fight them on the beaches, I’ll fight them in the small towns. I’ll fight them in the cities, and the hills. And I’ll fight them in 1939 or 1940.
Up to them, but that said, where is a link to all the new “rules” for 39? and is there a new map?

I may be interested in a game of 39 during day 2, after we crush team Gargantua in global day 1. However, I would need a small power and some coaching, as I have never played it before.

Only thing is that this game is EPIC. There will be no time to finish if we start on day two. TRUST ME
The great thing is it will be fair as we are all “rookies” when it comes to this varient. Need to rely on Overall AAA Strategic skill and Luck!! No pre-set strategies will help.
This game is so BIG, players were off playing other games while waiting for their turn.

We could start 1939 on day one since i think just a few hours will be necessary to crush team Young Grashopper

Are weapons allowed at the venue? I’m thinking of making up some commemorative KNIVES for my team :D
Take a vote with the other players. In Global 1939 we can have a few more players also.
Nations are:
Germany
Italy
Japan
USSR & Communist China
USA & CHINA (Can be broken into Two Players/Theaters)
United Kingdom (Can be broken into two Players/Theaters)
Commonwealth (Canada & ANZAC)
Otherwise I am still up for a game of Global 1940
I would be interested in taking a small role in a 1939 game, after our Global game of course. Could you get me in on that Jeremy?
I would be HONORED to play as Germany in the 1939 game… however imbalanced as it may be. :)

War is always a contest between two unequal parties… ALL the Axis & Allies Games after AA50 are “unbalanced” due to their huge complexity. At FMGC 2011… The 1939 game was a hard fought AXIS VICTORY.
I played the Commonwealth and had a great time.

Lol, AFTER a Global 1940 game? We played ALL WEEKEND last year (1939 variant) and didn’t actually finish the game (we called it an axis victory when it appeared the axis had the upper hand after about 22 hours of play).
That’s the one reason I personally will not be dragged into a global 1940 or 1939 game this year, despite it being an amazing variation. Too many other games to try out!
I would like to play Canada/Commonwealth in a 39 game after our global match, who do I contact to reserve a spot for that?

Lets first decide if we are playing this or 1940. I can’t be in BOTH… way to long. We only have two days!!!
