    New Battleship Ability

    Players may choose which enemy unit will be used as a casualty when their battleships hit during combat.

  • Doesn’t this ruin the point of taking a naval escort in the first place?  As stated above, transports could be easily destroyed regardless of their escort, which makes it useless.  Just a thought.

    IMHO targeting Trannies should be a Submarine ability, since they in fact did submerge to avoid the escorts, because a Destroyer or surface warship is far superior in combat against submarines. In the real war, a submarine would surface in the middle of a convoy, sink as many trannies as possible, and then submerge before the escort destroyers could fire back.

    Other units that could possible target specific ships, like Trannies, would be aircrafts. Condor long range Bombers would usually fly over the escort and drop sea mines among the Trannies in the middle of the convoy. Also kamikaze fighters are famous for targeting specific ships.

    The only units that did not have range nor ability to targeting, are battleships and cruisers, the two units that ironically have been proposed to this ability by the thread starter.

    You may just say that BB and CA can only target surface warships, this excludes TPs and Subs.

    Yes, of course you can, and this will model the WWI battleships duel in a beautiful way, but the problem is that on a complex A&A Battleboard with land based Bombers, carrier fighters and Tacs, surface warships and submarines, all different types of units that would never face each other in the real war, need to be resolved in a hurry because after 20 hours of gaming your buddies need to go to work tomorrow or your wife is angry or something, or in worst case, you are out of mountain dew or something. And the Battleship on Battleship duel is not the only issue here, do remember that surface warships can only hit aircrafts on a roll of 1. And Submarines should no way be taken as fodder in a naval battle like this, since they were not designed for this but to raid unarmed Trannies and Convoys.
