• everybody keeps saying that a J1 wins the game
it never does in our group
so they attack kwantung, phillipines, british navy first round and such
and about round 7 india falls
    but even then?
you get 70 IPC, allies too
allies can block from carolines all of the east indies
you pay destroyers of 8 to take down subs of 6: eventual loss ecomically
and don’t expect you can take australia

  • If Japan takes all of Asia, the Phil, and the DEI, they get 78. US gets 55 and ANZAC gets 15 w/NO. They can match all allied builds and add a destroyer each turn.

A good chunk of that Japanese income is subject to convoy disruption. Even taking just one of the DEI as the Allies is going to swing the IPC level in favor of the Allies. Say Celebes, the Allies go up 3 IPCs and the Japanese fall 8 (loss of the bonus). That one island will move the IPCs to 70 Japan vs 73 Allies.

The PI is worth 7 IPCs to the US. If they can grab it back, that is a 9+ IPC swing in favor of the Allies. The opening rounds buys for the US are crucial, IMHO. They should be thinking about grabbing either Guam or the Marianas and building airbases and naval bases there.

While Japan is concurring all of Asia, the DEI and such, the US should be building up to challenge for control of the PI, Shang-Hai, Hong Kong, Caroline Islands, Manchuria, Korea & even Japan itself.

The problem with Japan taking all that turf is that they have to defend it too, and that’s where the game is.  :-)

yes, but japanese subs have no convoys to block
and you put for about 7 rounds all money on the mainland, that’s about (with J1 war) 385 IPC for the US, anzacs not included
don’t you think you can match that with starting navy ;)

  • Round 7 India falls?

The Allied player(s) in your group must be doing something everyone else on this forum isn’t.

you mean it should fall sooner or later?

  • If it takes 7 turns to take out India after a J1 attack, you or your opponents aren’t playing Japan correctly. It should fall on J3 or J5 at the latest. All these strategies about bleeding Japan of IPC’s via convoy attacks is amusing. The game should be over by the time anything is in position to attack the convoys in sufficient strength to hurt Japan.

ah, but i see now you guys play with the straight India attack
we used the huge mainland IC tactic
but still, it should be possible to hold axis
