@Panther it is still live. I’ll get a new link up
What will they mess up next?
-
It isn’t just A&A they’re taking the paper money away from.
New Monopoly with a circular board, no iconic player pieces and NO MONOPOLY MONEY.
Man that is one claustrophobic looking board and are those deeds even readable? I’d be on board with the changes as cost cutting but if was just to pay for the calculator what did they gain?
Two words come to mind, New Coke.
-
I actually thought it was cool. If anything it prevents cheating. There are probably some downfalls to this method, but I’d play it.
But I want to direct your attention to this link: http://explorepahistory.com/displayimage.php?imgId=4626

Paper must be expensive these days, or are they going green?
-
I don’t have a problem with the circle but the whole thing looks sized something too big to be a travel set and too small to be full sized. From a graphical design project it looks terrific like the new Beetle or Mustang but as a game set to play games on it doesn’t seem like it will measure up.
-
It seems to me that cutting paper is merely cutting costs to the product. “going green” by not using paper seems a pretty silly idea to me, more a marketing scheme than any practical value.
-
Well… just a little off topic, but I really like this style of map:

I’ve read a lot of posts from people who prefer the political colours on A&A boards and other games… but IMHO, this is excellent.

It isn’t green to cut the paper and replace it with a big hunk of plastic and heavy metal circuit boards. I can’t see how replacing paper with a device cuts the cost of anything. If anything wouldn’t that make it more to produce?
Seems more like they can’t sell sets without some kind of ‘tech.’ I wonder if the profit margin has come down in the name of selling games at all.
-
Probably a bells & whistles appeal to a tech-savvy generation.
But makes you wonder if Hasbro just decided that kids couldn’t do the math unaided.

Wonder if the abacus will find its way into a hasbro game then. :P
You’re absolutely right Frimmel, but you would be surprised how many people think simply not using a wood based product is the same as going green. Tech just seems to sell. On the other hand I did see a copy of battleship that didn’t light up, didn’t talk, just the classic looking game….I even saw Stratego right next to it!
My oldest is almost ready for chutes and ladders - far cry from AandA…

That is a frightening thought to start the day. Usually I save those till I get to Climate Progress.
Monopoly was where I honed a lot of math and learned to ‘make change.’ The first time I was asked to watch/work some kind of stand and handle money it was “Just like Monopoly.”
-
If they do go away from money I’ll be mad but I’ll just use the money from other games. Although it ticks me off that they do that.
But makes you wonder if Hasbro just decided that kids couldn’t do the math unaided.
If we have gotten to that point then its pretty sad.
-
They’ll do anything to save a buck these days.
-
….LAME

Maybe FMG will make money now.
-
Still waiting for Axis and Allies Monopoly. It’s so unfair Star Wars and Harry Potter get a monopoly and we don’t.
And whatever happened to Axis and Allies the Gathering? :-o
-
An Axis & Allies game that combined the overworld map that we know and then a tactical grid/hex that worked like the miniatures for battles would be awesome.

Now that would make an already awsome game even better. Beacause you would have even more control over the battles.

Far less luck involved, I’m sure, but quite a bit more time too!

With the high quality of the stuff at FMG, I don’t think the US mint would appreciate them making money.

Okay then we will have to settle for IPC certificates.
