Shoot, my sentence was in the wrong order. I edited it to mean what I wanted to say.
[Global 1940] 2nd Revised Setup For France
-
I agree. I don’t think the Second BEF made it that far inland.
I really like adding units to Indochina and the adjacent sea zone.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato Whats a BEF?
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato How about a French Infantry in Egypt? There’s Anzac, There should only be one Anzac Infantry, and the other French maybe what you think.
-
British Expeditionary Force. I was referring to the real life formation.
I don’t think we should add a French infantry, they didn’t really exist there at the time. I’d like to imagine that the infantry in Syria, when moved down to Egypt, would represent the historical Free French forces in Egypt.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato Makes sense. I feel there should be a bonus if the Allies capture Normandy. 6 IPC’s of French material placed and if southern France is liberated 3 IPC’s of French material. What do you think about that. Also I like the idea of artillery in Algeria so the French also have a small offensive. Maybe a Mech Infantry in West Africa ideas on that?
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower I’ve enjoyed reading this thread. I like the idea of adding even just 1 UK infantry to Normandy, but I am not so sure about adding to Paris. That territory is designed to fall G1 or else the game is wildly altered, and I think that while making France a little bulkier isn’t bad, it needs to be done elsewhere. I like adding the following from what you two have said:
- 1 UK inf. to Normandy,
- 1 or French inf. to Indochina
- 1 French destroyer in SZ 36 next to Indochina
1 French transport in SZ 105, right off the coast of Bordeaux. This is undefended, but to take it out the Axis need to spare a ship or plane sorely needed elsewhere in round 1.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower Italy already is shafted in this game. Adding Allied units to Africa is just one more nail in the coffin and makes that theater even more unbalanced, IMHO.
-
Key Changes
British Forces moved to Normandy and one UK infantry added.
One French Transport added to sea zone 110.
2 Infantry in Indochina and a Destroyer in adjacent sea zone.

@Tamer-of-Beasts I think Italy also need a revised setup. I would agree adding a French artillery is not a good idea cause the French can take there transport down with 2 more guys.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts I think it should actually be in 110 instead of 105 so it is defended. Also moving the British units in France to Normandy. Thanks for the feedback! Do you have any changes you would make to France I wonder if there should be a Sub added ton New Herbies.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower But if you put the transport in 110 then it will just be sunk with the rest of the fleet without Germany having to use any resources to get to it. It is entirely pointless in 110.
Also, moving all the UK units to Normandy makes Paris a soft target, and Germany won’t lose any more than a few infantry. They’ll just take Paris turn 1, and then throw their air force with a few infantry at Normandy turn 2. I like keeping the 2 UK units in Paris there.
-
I think that works.
I don’t think there should be submarine in New Hebridies out of historical accuracy.
To make up moving the British units to Normandy Bordeaux the units in that territory should move into Paris.
The French transport in sea zone 105 is probably a better idea for Tamer of Beasts’ reasons.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato I agree. Should we really remove the French Fighter maybe replace it with a UK Fighter. Transport in 105 sounds good but then we should put a destroyer there I think that would be accurate too. I think 1 UK infantry should be added to Paris and Normandy. Maybe a Mech Infantry in Algeria the French guys need help in North Africa but I cant think of anything to place there.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts One British Mech Infantry along with a Infantry in Normandy.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts Maybe a Transport to in Indochina I’m not sure about that yet. I still think France should have a Tank in Algeria maybe not or one strong piece somewhere that does not get destroyed in round 1 that they can use.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower That does sound fun but you still have the problem of Italy being underwhelming in the first place. I hesitate to add anything to France that could impact Italy in any meaningful way. Doing so would require an Italian change in setup, and if I understand correctly, the goal here is a little more excitement and possibly balance, not redoing the whole game. Changing the Italian setup because you changed France’s (beyond slowing Germany down) is more of an alternate edition than a house rule.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts @SuperbattleshipYamato
Also, I think the French Cruiser in 110 should be a Battleship. Thoughts? Ideas? Changes?
Can everyone agree with me the French transport and battleship sculps look weird. I wish they had unique sculps.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts I agree I would say I think more units need to be added to Libya maybe 1 Infantry. Wow! This got off topic. 😂 I like it. I should come up with changes for each country. That probably to much… so no French units added to afraica.
-
@Tamer-of-Beasts Should there be a Free French income maybe a complex in Indochina and west afraica so it takes a while for the units to attack italy?
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower My honest answer is that I think you are taking off more than you can chew at once. I suggest playtesting this in phases. Start with making minor adjustments to France (like the ones I suggested or similar). If that makes you happy-great! If not, then slowly add changes.
It seems right now that you are a little too eager to change everything, and I fear you will wind up disappointing yourself and never settling on anything.
Just my two-cents, but those are my honest thoughts. Start simple and give France a low-impact option or two.
