To me, the single round of combat is the most interesting innovation of the new games – I’m thinking of D-Day in particular, since I’ve never played BOTB. I think that rule, together with the space limits, has cured the infamous “stacking” problem in traditional A&A. While I very much enjoy A&A Revised, stacking limits tactical options. Without stacking, more tactical possibilities open up. Maneuver becomes not only possible, but an essential tactical skill. If I’m not mistaken, BOTB even introduced a hex-based map. A&A is becoming more of a tactical, rather than strictly a strategic, game. It’s a refreshing change, IMO.

Guadalcanal is a good mix of strategy and tactics.

play A&A world map with the white booklet enhanced rules. makes it more tacitcal, and it begins the idea of single round combat for chinese forces. with being able to make tactical retreats on defense to lure someone into a trap. its sweet. :-)
