Hi all! I’m currently working on refining this strategy, as well as implementing some new strategies for the Russians. We all know that it can be boring as the Russian player, however I plan on changing this. Once upon a time Japan was seen as weak, and very difficult to win with, when all it took was a little refinement. I plan on finding this for the Russians, and think I am close. Hang in there guys, and I will be posting this refined strategy soon!

RE: The Campaign for North Africa (1979)
Garg, I had a friend who told me it would be easier just to invade North Africa haha. I’m more interested in the game for purposes of research and not actual playtime. I read somewhere that they never even completed the play testing for the game because it was projected to take 7 years.

The Campaign for North Africa (1979)
Hi all! It’s been awhile since I’ve written on here, but i’m back. I’ve been deeply involved in constructing and finishing my latest game table, so I haven’t had a ton of free time. I’ve been looking to purchase (or trade) for the game “The Campaign for North Africa”, and was wondering if anyone had this game, and if they would be willing to part with it. I know that it says the average game lasts for about 60 days, or about 1500 hours, and it doesn’t have a ton of play testing, however I’m in the process of creating a strategy game of my own and would like some of the implementations from this game, and I would like to play it myself. Please message me if you have any information on how I could obtain a copy of this game, thanks!

RE: [House Rules] Keeping China Alive?
The single fighter plane only plays an important role in smaller battles anyway. If the Japanese player wants to take it out J1 and possibly lose some planes, then i’m all for it.

RE: [House Rules] Keeping China Alive?
IMO I would rather Japan attack my Chinese forces all on J1 anyway because I’ll be able to get rid of some of those damned planes.

RE: [House Rules] Keeping China Alive?
That is a pretty big fundamental change. I’ve heard of people changing the turn order, however it changes alot about how the gae develops.

RE: New Table
A little bit of an update on the table. It’s coming along well, withe the fist part being complete. The custom made legs and the drawers are complete, and we have the bottom frame complete. The table is currently free standing, and we will need to build and add the top pieces next. I have taken some pictures and will probably wait to post them until I have a complete product. Looking good!

RE: [House Rules] Keeping China Alive?
My group has played many games, and I have found that the easiest way to keep China alive is to distract Japan with bigger and more interesting targets. J1 is unavoidable, however by placing your UK/Anzac units well on the fist turn, J2 becomes more interesting. You want Japan to focus on splitting their planes, and not concentrating them inland. It is difficult to do, however China is just a minor power that is difficult to keep breathing. They are just a filler, however if Japan does not focus on them right away they can become a menace.

Vacationing and Snowbirds
Just wanted to extend an offer to anyone vacationing (or staying) near Tampa, my house is always open to fellow AA enthusiasts. Not only to play AA, but also as a place to stay. If you need any details feel free to message me and I can direct you through Airbnb. Would love to meet some of you guys!

RE: Game Within A Game
I have given much thought to doing a game within a game for AA, and have even looked into the other versions of AA such as the miniature model game version. I would love to do a battle for each territory within the world map, however after much consideration i realized that this would make a game of world take an extreme amount if time. I do have a table that is built in such a way that I can save a game at any time and come back to it later, and I often do that with my friends. I will usually take about 2-3 weeks per game because we don’t play long sessions, usually no more than 4 hours of play or so, so it take 3 or 4 meetings to finish a game. With the game within a game concept, this would make finishing a game a much lengthier task.

RE: Tired of the Trolling which I guess is okay with most members here
You know, I haven’t been on here long but it seems to me like people get upset over just about anything. One of the most interesting things about the forum is the “trolling” which makes for an interesting read. Too many people leaving for not really good reasons. Sad to see.

New Table
Hi all! I just wanted to let you guys know that I have began the process of building a new AA game table! This is very exciting for me and my friends, as we have been playing on the old one for awhile now. We have completed the design and scale model of the table, and have even bought most of the materials needed. We will begin building it soon and I will definitely post pictures either on the forum, or I’ll do videos for YouTube. The design is meant to make the table look like a normal dining table, and when you take the leafed top off, it will expose the game table underneath. It is a very intricate and detailed piece that will take a little while to complete. The table will feature 10 drawers (5 on each side) that are just tall enough to hold AA pieces, dice trays (with felt), cup holders, a light table underneath the map (to illuminate the entire board), and plexi-glass to cover the map and protect it. The table will be able to break down into several parts (making it easy to use), and the map will be interchangeable (for when we want to change the map).

RE: Why not Egypt first?
Like I said, given that the UK player does a Taranto attack, the remaining Italian ships should instead focus on destroying the two French warships, which will put Italy in the sea zone that Germany would then be able to spawn ships on G2. On G2, German planes (that were in Rome) can destroy any UK ships that were left, and land in Northern Africa, in preparation for an attack on Egypt.

RE: Mulligans - love ‘em or hate ‘em?
Once the next player announces his purchases we don’t allow any further action from the previous player, but if he catches a move he forgot before the next player purchases units, we allow them to do it. It is also a big reason that the players around my table think about their purchases ahead of time.

RE: Why not Egypt first?
I want to throw a challenge out there to anyone who does not normally take Egypt with Germany. Try it once. Look at the outcome for yourself, and evaluate the positives, as well as the negatives. Refine the strategy over the course of a few more trials, and you will be surprised at how effective this strategy can be.
If you watch GHG you will see that he has outlined a strategy called “Middle Earth” in which the UK uses South Africa, Egypt, and Persia to transport large amounts of infantry around. When Germany can spawn units in Egypt and use them to hit Iraq and Persia, leaving at least one of them for Italy, it creates a great deal of frustration for the allies. Once Germany has Egypt, they can use transports to move onto South Africa, and soon the Axis powers will own all of Africa and the Middle East, taking full advantage of the “Middle Earth” strategy only from an Axis perspective. It is a deadly strategy.
If you watch siredblood, he outlines a strategy called the “Cobra Kai” in which Germany targets southern Russia, which he calls the “Heart of the Game”. This is true, because most often the side that has a firm hold on the Middle East and Southern Russia will end up winning the game. There is alot of oil here which provides a great amount of NO’s for Germany.
