I’m assuming that nobody has payed any attention to anything I’ve outlined in this strategy. I don’t know how much more I can say on the strategy. I might make another shorter video showing a push through the North. If someone could describe their German strategy going through the North I’ll gladly post a video on it.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
Germany going north buys Russia time and money. If Germany wants to waste their resources going through the North, that would make the Red Tide strategy even stronger because Russia would have more IPCs to spend on turns 3, 4, 5 and Germany would be losing out on those southern IPC bonuses. This strategy only requires that the UK, and the US focus on pestering Germany, not necessarily bombing them or even disrupting them. For instance, if the U.S continually threatens landings along the coast, Germany would need to divert at least some of their resources in taking it back. To touch on what you said about Russia pulling back into Moscow, this would be avoidable because of the first few turns purchases. By placing the Russian stack in response to German moves, there is no reason the Russian player shouldn’t be able to take out a German advance from the north.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
Ichabod, how would Germany going north be more beneficial? Moscow would be in striking distance from Ukraine unlike Leningrad. Also I will say the ideal first turn purchase in any situation would be 6 artillery.
On another note, I played this strategy again a few days ago and had a landslide victory for the allies. Again, please give this strategy a go. It is so effective. If Germany commits any of their first turn IPCs on ships, or units intended for diverting UK units, then you have the jump. Please use this strategy, it is a game changer! You can adapt to any German push North or South. I might post another shorter video soon explaining some more details on this strategy.

I’m glad that you are in the same boat with me GHG.

I totally agree with all of you, however Vann is right when he says that it’s probably to appeal to the younger crowd.

RE: Russia declaration of war
In the Global rules, under the Soviet Union Political Situation section it says, the Soviet Union may not declare war on any European Axis power before turn 4. I would take this to mean that since the territory is pro-axis then you cannot attack it before they are at war.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
It is more ideal for the Russian player if the Germans move through the north. This takes away less IPC from the Russians, leading to them purchasing more units. From what I have found it is more ideal to draw the Germans into a large stack of Russian infantry and artillery. The power of those large stacks outweighs the power of fewer fast movers.
I will reiterate that this strategy doesn’t work every time. It is more ideal if the German player shows a possibility of Sea Lion on turn 1. However if the German player makes purchases showing a full on Moscow push this strategy becomes more difficult.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
Alright guys I have finally finished some play testing, and I even made a video to explain this strategy a little more in depth. It’s a little long, but give it a go at the following link. I’ll also be posting some more alternative strategy videos in the near future so be sure to follow my channel on YouTube to see some interesting takes on the game!

RE: What is your most-purchased unit?
Am I the only one here who LOVES strategics??? they’re so darn useful. There’s nothing like making the enemy cringe at the though of having to repair factory with those precious IPCs.

The Italian Theory
Hey guys! I have a theory that I wanted to put out there and see if it holds true for you guys as it does for me. I have played a countless number of games of G40, as all the different powers. I have noticed something very interesting, and wanted to share wiht you all.
In every game that the Italians have had a base income of 25 IPC or higher, the Axis have won … regardless of the outcome in the Pacific. Now this theory ties in with the idea that the Middle East is an essential power house for any nation controlling it, as well as North African objectives. I won’t go into too much detail on Italian strategies, but I wanted to see if this theory holds true for you guys as well.

RE: UK Strategy -"Middle Earth"
GHG, I’m in the middle of a game right now in which I have opted to play the Middle Earth strategy. Germany has gone full Sea Lion, while Japan has failed the attempt for Calcutta, and failed to hold the money islands. You outlined perfectly how to counter the axis forces, and I am now in a position to destroy the German navy, and feed the Soviet advance. UK has enough residual forces left in the Middle East and North Africa to hold of the weak Italians. I don’t see how someone could argue against this UK strategy. In my experience the Middle East has been a power house for any power that controls it.

RE: Concerning National Objectives and Starting Income
To elaborate a bit, on the first turn everyone starts with the IPCs total to the territory value. Most of the political situations have not evolved yet, and therefore many of the NOs would be void anyway.

RE: Real chances of Taranto raid?
One important thing to note is that most good players will not scramble the two fighters, as they are more valuable late game for the Italians.
-
RE: Real chances of Taranto raid?
The Taranto raid is necessary to eliminate the Italian fleet early in the game. They won’t have enough IPCs to rebuild a formidable navy, and it leaves them weak in the Med. Although you will likely lose a good amount of your UK fleet, they don’t necessarily need it as much as the Italians. The UK’s main focus will be in North Africa and the Middle East. The small Italian fleet that is left after the raid is not significant, and can likely be taken out by the French and or British forces that are left in the Med. If Italy is left with the Taranto forces, it opens up a wide range of possibilities for Italy, including the ability to move troops to the Middle East, Gibraltar, or North Africa and it causes more trouble than needed.

Is everyone in Toronto okay? I know some of the members on this forum are from Toronto. Just want to make sure everyone is okay after the events yesterday.

RE: Strange plays in your games
Caesar, he is past the point of no return. Japan ended up taking all of mainland Asia, along with the Money Islands and Hawaii, so they won.

RE: Strange plays in your games
I’m currently in the middle of a game where the Allied player has moved all of his navy into the Atlantic, and is preparing for an assault on Europe. He completely left the Pacific open for Japan. Within the next two turns I should be able to take and hold the 6th victory city with Japan and win the game. I thought that it was an odd move from him, as I have played many time against this player, and he has never done anything like this.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
I have found that it’s more about a balance. The point in a “Red Tide” strategy is to take preventative measures against the German player, in order to prevent the sacking of Moscow, just in a different play style than the defensive boring one. It is an effort to make Russia more fun to play, while also incorporating new tactics into the A&A game itself. Russia cannot purchase all fast movers, however a play style that incorporates some will doesn’t hurt. Like I said, I should be posting a more detailed strategy soon that will outline an offensive Russian strategy.

RE: The "Red Tide" Strategy
As with any strategy it depends on a number of outside factors. Keeping a solid grounded base strategy that can be built upon based on a number of outside factors is my ultimate goal.
