If you want to amphibious assault a territory that meets Scramble requirements and who’s sea zone is undefended, but you only have Transports and no warships to escort them, can you send planes to “escort” your transports? In other words, can you send planes to “attack” an undefended sea zone which MIGHT be defended by scrambled planes?

RE: LFG Nanaimo, BC Area
Hi, I’m in BC. Kelowna though. Do you ever come this way, or do you know of anyone who plays in the area?
Thanks

RE: Rules question re: dutch territories
Does this mean that ANZAC can “take” the territory with Fighters? Or it can simply land them there for defense and the territory remains Dutch? For that matter, must UK and ANZAC be at war with Japan in order to “take” the Dutch territories at all?

Several Questions/Clarifications
Hi, I’d like these issues clarified please:
-
Convoy Disruptions, when EXACTLY do they take effect? If a German sub is in a UK convoy, does UK immediately lose IPCs, or at UK Collect Income Phase or what?
-
1 Axis and 1 Allied sub in a Convoy zone that borders both an Axis and Allied controlled territory. Do both sides lose IPCs? How does this work?
-
When does US collect 30 IPC bonus? Does it occur on 3rd turn Collect Income or 4th turn for US?
-
Can US move units into Canada or Iceland (not Europe or Africa) when not yet at war?
-
Can enemy ships share/move through the same sea zone when not at war?
-
If Germany attacks a sea zone with UK and US ships, does Germany HAVE TO declare war on US in order to attack UK units? Or Can Germany attack UK ships and US stays out of the battle?
-
If a Sub attacks a loaded Carrier, do the Fighters get a defense at all?
-
If a Sub attacks a loaded Carrier, does 1 hit to it and is destroyed in turn, do the Fighters stay on the Carrier as cargo or are they considered airborne and have to land elsewhere?
Thank you.

RE: 1st game of global after six rounds. Plus three.
What do you have covering the board? Is it glass or plastic or what?

RE: We forgot something…
With a 13 Victory City game, technically the Axis don’t even have to capture a capital city. I like this idea, it means Japan doesn’t actually have to attack Russia.
A 15 VC game is pointless, this requires the Axis to capture 2 capitals. The game is pretty much over once one capital city falls and you hold your own.
The game should’ve had a 13, 14, and 15 VC option, not 13, 15, 17.

RE: Operation Paintskrieg
Yes, it does help. Thanks.
I was pondering painting my sculpts this winter if I’m bored. I build 1:72 tank models, and thought this could be fun too, cuz you actually get to play with them!
I might wait till AAE40 and AAP40 come out and paint those pieces. It looks like they can be combined, and sounds like they’ll have more units and sculpts.
Again, very nice work. It probably really helps define the eastern front. I find that Russian and Italian units blend too well. Plus the borders between territories make it even harder to define.
Do you find it easier to play/manage the game with your planes propped like that? Takes up less space etc?
-
RE: Operation Paintskrieg
Hi
I love the finished product you have created. It’s inspiring.
Could you please post more pics of the fully set up board, closeups and the 42 setup would be great.
What did you use to prop up your planes? Could you explain the process you used.
Thanks

RE: Operation Paintskrieg
Very nice work indeed. I’m jealous, if I had the time I’d love to paint all my sculpts.
More pics would be great. I’d like to see more closeups of the various theaters.
Just curious, what’s with the Chinese setup?

RE: Allies lose every game.
Are you playing with NOs? Every 1941 game I’ve played, the Axis have lost. We were playing without NOs though. I think NOs could balance it. I feel as Germany you run out of steam so fast. What are people purchasing on G1? Tanks or a mix of Inf and Tanks?

RE: Kill UK first?
The Russians helped take out Germany but let’s not forget the 8th air force which bombed Germany into submission! Without the strategic bombing from the US, Germany’s factory’s would still be producing full force and there wouldn’t have been a 2nd front. Without these, I don’t think the Russians would have been able to push into Germany.
More like the US “helped” Russia take out Germany. 20 million Russians dead to what, 400,000 Americans? I don’t recall that Germany ever “submitted” to the US bombing attacks. I’ve read that German production actually peaked in 1944, but it didn’t really matter as they were horribly outnumbered at that point. By the time the British/American bombing campaign was in high gear, sometime in 43, the war was already lost in the east. Stalingrad and Kursk lost the war, plus by 1943 Russia was outproducing Germany. I’m not saying the Allied effort had no effect, but it certainly wasn’t the deciding factor in the war. I’m not trying to be a dick, but you Americans give yourselves way too much credit IMO.

RE: My KJF Strategy
@Cmdr:
America needs ONE transport
One transport to take the Carolines and make an airfield, yes? At what point do you build more transports and island hop, if at all?
@Cmdr:
everything else had better be going into Carriers, Fighters, Battleships and Destroyers (Cruisers just don’t seem to be as helpful, dunno why.) A few submarines won’t hurt, but don’t rely on them.
Are you trying to build an offensive fleet (subs) or a defensive fleet (carriers)?
Wouldn’t you find buying 1 Cruiser and 1 Destroyer more advantageous than 1 Battleship? Same cost, 1 extra die point in attack/defense, plus anti-sub, still gets a shore bombard. Are Battleships ever really worth it?
No bombers?
@Cmdr:
Take Carolines early and strong.
In 41 this probably wont happen on US1. Are you referring to the 41 or 42 setup?
@Cmdr:
This will permanently boost England’s income by 5 IPC (National Objective.)
I assume you find playing with NOs to be advantageous for the Allies? Or do you find it balances the game better? My problem with NOs, at least with this type of strategy is that Germany would be too rich. Plus, with my version, Russia would not get her boost due to UK fighters.
As the Allies, is it better to play with NOs if USA is going all out against Japan?
@Cmdr:
The round before you think you’ll have the firepower to sink the Japanese buy nothing but fighters in W. USA since they can race out to SZ 62 and land on your carriers while the fighters on your carriers can land somewhere else you have taken.
So, are you saying just keep building up your fleet in the Carolines and let the Japanese fleet attack you and then counter attack? What if Japan doesn’t attack and decides to boost her navy with Carriers?
Could you be more specific on how you would handle the Japanese fleet?
Also, do you find this USA vs Japan strategy works better in 41 or 42?
Thanks

My KJF Strategy
Hi all
I just want to say that what bothered me the most about previous versions of A&A was the KGF strat and the fact that Japan had to go for Moscow while the US ignored her. There was very little action in the Pacific theater. AA50 is by far the most viable version to allow for a Pacific war.
My strategy is very simple, and could probably be tweaked here and there for efficiency. I’m not getting turn specific here because the strategy is fairly open.
This is how I played it though:1. Russia does what it always does, survives as long as possible. I mostly buy infantry and withdraw as Germany advances. The idea is to build up as much defense fodder as possible for the ultimate defense of Moscow. In fact, when I played it I never attacked German troops once.
2. The UK buys nothing but fighters and sends them to Russia. I borrowed this idea from AA Europe where my friends and I would buy nothing but fighters as the Allies and send them to Russia. If Germany’s tank stack could not crush the Russian infantry/fighter stack in Moscow she would run out of steam and Russia could spring forward. Try to hold off Italy in Africa and Japan in India as long as possible.
3. The USA goes all out on Japan with everything it has, including all the east coast stuff. At first I tried this strategy in 1942 but I found that Germany was too strong and could defeat Russia quickly. Russia doesn’t have enough fodder. In 41 Russia has more time to retreat and build up reserves. Plus the Allies start with their full incomes, which allows the UK to purchase 4 fighters on UK1 instead of 3.
My main problem is how to defeat Japan with the USA. I know that eventually it can be done, but I want to know the most efficient way of doing so. I’ve heard several people say that it’s a cakewalk, but I disagree. I find in either 41 or 42 that Japan is so damn strong naval wise. She has so many fighters that buying cheap carriers drastically bolsters her naval defense. The USA has to spend more IPCs to match this power. I also found that by the time USA liberates the 4 IPC islands etc that Japan is hardly affected because she is deep in Asia at this point. If anyone has a strong anti-japan strategy for the USA I would be very interested to hear it.
My strategy may not be perfect, maybe the UK would be better off landing troops in Europe? BTW I never play with techs or NOs as i feel they could unbalance the game too much in favor of the Axis. I haven’t tried NOs with this strat though, so who knows…
Has anyone tried this idea yet? I’d love to hear other KJF strats, or just how to defeat Japan as USA alone. Thanks
PS. One thing I like about AA50 for the Allies is that the Axis starts the turn order in 41 and 42. This allows the Allies to maximize their efforts and exploit Axis errors. If Japan thought the USA was going to go all out against her and bought warships on J1, the USA could see that and merely choose to ignore her.

RE: AA50 Box Art
I think it’s Zhukov on the far left. Axis & Allies box art never gave the Russians much credit, so I was happy to see a Russian general for once.
It’s Guderian, not Kleist. Who’s on the immediate left of him?
Also, I don’t like FDR as the main head figure on the box. The original A&A box only had military figures on it, not political ones. Hitler and Stalin deserve to be on there too if FDR and Churchill do.
The box is also too American for me, don’t see any Brits or Italians there (am I wrong?). There are some Russians, but a T-34 or something would’ve been cool IMO. But I guess being an American made game it must play on the heartstrings of people who want to buy it. Plus Americans like to feel like they played the biggest role in that war, when in fact they joined late and paid a very small price in lives compared to practically all other nations. I’m not saying the US didn’t play a major role, they did, but A&A seems a little biased IMO.
On a side note, why is Mussolini the major head figure on Revised? Is he that recognizable that people would be drawn to the box if they saw it on a shelf? Rommel I could see.

Several Questions????
Here are some random rules questions that I would like cleared up:
Can Chinese units be placed on a territory that it just captured? ex. If China takes Manchuria with 1 Inf remaining, can it place its “purchased” Inf on it that turn? If so, can US planes land on a newly captured Chinese territory?
Does the 3 unit limit refer to Chinese or Allies units?
Can a US plane attack a German sub if a UK destroyer is present?
1 Sub attacks 1 Carrier w 2 Fighters, do the Fighters roll for defence?
Placing Fighters on newly built Carriers: you can place newly built Fighters on newly built Carriers, right? Do existing Fighters have to end their movement in the territory where the Carrier is to be placed, or do they simply land on the territory where the Factory producing the carrier is? This could be important if a Fighter is low on movement.
Here’s a situation that has bothered me for a while:
Let’s say that Japan has 5 Transports in a SZ (a juicy target), next to that SZ they have 3 Battleships with Destroyers, Carriers, etc… it’s huge. One SZ away from this huge Jap fleet is 1 US Carrier w 1 Fighter, and 1 Destroyer. If the Jap Transports are 3 spaces away from the US fleet, the Jap Battleships etc 2 spaces, and 1 empty SZ in between, could you attack the huge Jap fleet with your Destroyer (the assumption being you could theoretically win any battle), and plan to move your Carrier into that SZ in NC Movement, while sending your Fighter to attack the Transports?
The best way I can put it is: can you sacrifice any given warship in order to send Fighters on a suicidal attack under the assumption that your Carrier will be in range in NC Movement? Obviously, it would be worth it for the US in this case. However, the US Destroyer will obviously die, and the US Fighter will have nowhere to land. In this case, does the plane “crash”, thus allowing the US to sacrifice some units for a big payoff, or is this situation not legal at all?Thank you
