I agree that Carriers are much more flexible and are an excellent defensive unit, but I think in Italy’s case she might not be able to afford a Carrier, let alone the planes to stock one should the RIA have been sacrificed in Taranto for example.

Which Nations should buy Cruisers?
They are the poor man’s Battleship. I agree that they are kind of an expensive unit for what they do, but because they get a shore shot it makes them better than Destroyers - as a unit I mean, obviously not economically.
I think they are a good buy for Italy because she needs a few substantial warships to protect the Transports she will need to conquer Egypt. I think Italy needs at least one in her fleet to stay alive. And if Italy gets free reign in the Med Cruisers will pay for themselves in multiple shore bombardments.
If Japan had landed Infantry on the DEI I might recommend a Cruiser for ANZAC to soften them up to save men in a likely small fleet, but otherwise I would probably buy Subs.
If Destroyers are the Infantry of the sea, then Cruisers are the Tanks.
What are your theories on buying Cruisers?

RE: How is Europe 1940 SE different from Global 1940 SE?
Finally a SE version of Europe for TripleA. Thanks!
When is it going to be ready? -
Looking forward to this new addition
Let me be the first to say that Axis & Allies has been inspiring in that being able to play a board game version of WW2 I have learned about the history of WW2. It’s more fun to “play” history than to simply read about it imo. Since first playing Original A&A back in 1998 I have been in love with the game and (almost) every addition since. It may have been the spark that started my real interest in the history of WW2.
Now that a 1914 WW1 Axis & Allies version has been announced I have come to realize that my historical understanding of this great and tragic war is sadly lacking. My hope is that this game will have a somewhat realistic feel and through it help to spark a whole new interest in an already interesting topic.
I’m wondering if this game will be like Axis & Allies meets Risk, where you roll and roll and watch your mass armies of men dwindle before your eyes.
What is the consensus at this point among the A&A veterans out there?

RE: Photos of the new sculps
The ANZAC dude on the far right seems slightly shorter, but not by much. Are they ALL like this?
Also, the base for the ANZAC Inf looks bigger than the standard base, how does this look on a chip?

RE: HBG Neutrals Painted
I ordered me some neutrals the other day. Nice work!

RE: AAA50th painted minis
Hey guys- stumbled upon this topic, and WOW, I am impressed!
I am also painting my pieces and had a few questions for Viracocha…sorry if it’s too much; I’m like a kid in a candy shop!
1. What did you coat the finished products with? A liquid wash, a spray enamel, a paint on coating?
2. How did you make such amazing bases (rock, sand, grass)? That is SO cool.
3. Do you use a preparatory wash or something before you paint the pieces?
4. How do you do the really intricate details on the infantry? (insignia, etc. Especially on the SS)
5. And lastly (sorry if this is a lot), would you mind giving me an estimate of how much all of this costs you? Excluding the paint and the pieces.
Thank you so much for these great examples and exquisite work! Great job  :-D
Hey, I didn’t see the answers to these questions posted. I am very interested in painting my Global set and I would much appreciate the insights.
Thanks!
Amazing job by the way, the best I’ve seen online.

RE: BRITISH COLUMBIA
Hey, I’m back in BC
Don’t know where you are at Garg but if it’s not too far maybe we can set something up?

RE: Need help with my Barbarossa
Creeping-Deth,
I am in a similar situation as you describe. I did the same purchase as you G1, I eliminated UK navy, but I let Italy take France… Hopefully it pays off later. I want a strong Italy to rush Egypt and the Middle East. I’m planning a G2 Barbarossa, but I’m going to go hard for Leningrad, I might even be able to amphibous assault it G2, I think my opponent thinks it could be for Sea Lion.
My concern for Germany is I have no real reenforcements to back up my stack. Did you find this to be a problem? What was your first target in Russia? I think Leningrad is the natural choice, especially for a G2 attack. I want to hit Russia before it gets too big, my opponent R1 bought Tanks when he saw me buy navy.
Anyway, I only played one round today, as my friend was too hung over. Tomorrow we’ll finish it. I’ll post the results.

RE: BRITISH COLUMBIA
Sorry, don’t know anyone from Vic. That’s a better wage than Kelowna for a labourer, lol. Kelowna sucks for $$$.
Well, i don’t have an exact date booked yet, but as early as Feb 22, or early March… I’m waiting for a Visa to come through, had to update my passport, blah blah blah.
I take it you own/run some type of construction company? I’m an electrician personally, lol.
How old are you? I’m 27.

RE: BRITISH COLUMBIA
Yeah, bro, I’d love to play you…
Unfortunately, I’m leaving the country soon going to live in Australia for a year.
But it’s hard as hell to find good players, so maybe in the future?
I don’t post much on this forum, but I’m on it all the time. I’m no stranger to A&A, owned all the versions, lots of experience.
What do you do for work? Construction?
Cheers

Who thinks there should be an official Atomic Bomb rule????
Hi,
I was wondering who among us have wanted to see a real, even if as an optional rule, Atom Bomb rule? I’m serious about this.
Do you ever play games that kind of end up like classic A&A, where Russia has been knocked out and the Japs have come through the back door to Stalingrad, and the Allies are strong is Western Europe and is hammering away at Western Germany, stalemate in the Pacific, or something similar? I propose there should be a potentially game breaking rule that though it is supremely powerful, it cost out the ass, and may take several turns to develop.
Here or some of my thought on this:
I think it should on be possible to take place only after a certain round, round 10 or thereabouts.
It involves spending an enormous sum of money and possibly having to roll to see how many turns takes to come into place. Possibly $100 IPCs? More?
A special Bomber is to be produced that is the Atomic Bomb carrier. It must come from the continental US.
Would it destroy conventional armies or would it be for destroying industry completely, or both? Probably both.
Hmm, I’ll think some more on this.
What are your thoughts? Who thinks this should be a rule, even an optional one?

RE: Lessons Learned Global 1940
A small point, but a psychological one.
Does anyone face their units in the direction you intent to go?
Just like having your units grouped non-stacked and “messy”, to slightly confuse your opponent, you could also aim them in random directions to give that messiness a better edge.
Conversely, you could face your units towards an opponent to stare the enemy down and show determination, seem more threatening.
Just a thought.

How long is a turn in real life?
Hi all,
I just wanted to share my thoughts on how long a turn, or full round of play, roughly translates to real life time. And when I say “round”, I mean Germany through to France.
The way I see it, each round represents about 6 months of time. Round 1 is Spring/Summer 1940, Round 2 is Fall/Winter 1940, Round 3 is Spring/Summer 1941 etc…
To that end, you could get a historical feel for the game on any given round by using this theory. For example, Round 5 is the first half of 1942, and the game seems to roughly translate that to actual history in some ways, relative to strength of powers I mean.
Here’s a vague outline, and IMO, not unreasonable to how you could play it in game:
R1 - Spring/Summer 1940 - Germany blitzes France
R2 - Fall/Winter 1940 - Battle of Britain/Atlantic
R3 - Spring/Summer 1941 - Operation Barbarossa
R4 - Fall/Winter 1941 - Pearl Harbour (yes, I’m Canadian)
R5 - Spring/Summer 1942 - US enters war, Operation Torch…and so on. I know that obviously the game won’t play out even close to EXACTLY how the war really went, but I suppose if you wanted to know which turn in Axis & Allies a certain historical event occurred, you could use this as a guide.
What are your thoughts on this? To me it adds an extra bit of flavour to the game to think “Oh, wow, it’s 1944 (Round 9), things are getting really heavy now…D-Day is indeed feasible”.
Cheers!

RE: Bombing is back, Baby!
I definitely agree. The +2 damage ensures that you make at least 3 damage points, which will knock out an airfield or naval base. I almost never bomb a complex unless I have bombers that can do nothing else, but the +2 and new interceptor rules make it juicier for sure.

RE: Rule Questions/Clarifications Please???
Thank you Krieghund.
Yes, Alpha +2.
Still, to clarify:
1. A full round means what JimmyHat described, yes?
7. So, how would it work if the US captures Morocco from Italy’s control and then the rest of what I described occurs? Who ends up in control, US or UK? Basically, the US can own the original French territory as long as it was taken from an Axis power?
-
RE: Rule Questions/Clarifications Please???
Thanks for the prompt reply. I’m still not sure about 7. though. I thought that because France has no capitol that it’s territories are fair game for anyone until its liberated?

Rule Questions/Clarifications Please???
Hi, here’s a list of things I would like clarified please, sorry if some are redundant:
1. Victory Conditions. If Japan achieves enough victory cities, when exactly does victory actually occur? Does it simply finish “the round” being played (ie. ending with France), or does it complete a FULL round (starting with Germany, ending with France), or does it complete a round back to itself (ie. start of next Japanese turn)?
2. Russia is a neutral country, but it’s allowed to attack Japan at any time, right?
3. Strategic Bombing Raids: Can tactical bombers be used as “escorts/interceptors”? or is it strictly fighters? Also, if a player raids a territory that contains fighters, do these fighters HAVE to intercept the raid? Or does the defending player chose how many, if any, interceptors he will use?
4. How EXACTLY are casualties chosen in a battle (aside from special units like subs etc.)? Does the attacker roll his TOTAL amount of hits before the defender chooses casualties, or does it technically work one die roll at a time?
5. Can the US build a Minor IC in the Philippines? Can it do this while not yet at war? Likewise could India build a Minor IC in say Borneo or Malaya?
6. If Japan invades FIC, does that cause a state or war with anyone other than France? Or does it simply mean that Japan loses its 10 IPC bonus?
7. If the US takes Morocco while France is under Axis control, Morocco becomes a US captured territory, right? If the UK then lands troops in Morocco and liberates France at the same time, Morocco immediately becomes French again, yes? If France is then retaken by the Axis, who controls Morocco, US or UK?
8. When Germany and USSR are not yet at war, Germany may unload transports in Finland during NCM in SZ 115 whilst Russian warships are in SZ 115, right?
9. Pro Axis/Allied neutral territories are “occupied” during NCM only, right? For example, can Italy “blitz” a tank from Trans-Jordan through Syria, then into Iraq, thus “occupying” it, even though “blitzing” is an attack during CM?
10. If Germany captures London the US may IMMEDIATELY declare war on ALL Axis powers, right? Does the US IMMEDIATELY receive its IPC bonuses and IC upgrades, or does it receive its bonuses on its next collect income phase?
11. Is a sub considered a “warship”? Example: Can a transport make an amphibious assault in a SZ containing an enemy sub if the assaulting player has an “escorting” sub?" What if there are allied warships in the same SZ, can the attacking player still make the amphibious assault without an escort?
12. Can Japan capture unoccupied DEI territories without causing a state of war with any Allied powers?
13. If the US is provoked (has war declared on it by ONE Axis power), the US may IMMEDIATELY declare war on ALL Axis powers, right?
-
RE: Scramble Question
Hmm… Thanks for your thoughts.
What does Krieghund have to say?
