Hi All,
I live in Minnesota. I’ve been playing Axis & Allies ever since I was a teenager when there was only the Milton Bradley version. Still have it though it is in very rough shape. Over the years I’ve tried to purchase the updates, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Anniversary, Amerika, and War Room. I’d like to add Guadalcanal to my collection. I don’t play as frequently as I’d like.
I’ve noticed the various versions of A&A 1914 technology and would like to consolidate them. I’ve noticed that there is a lot of files and such in boardgame geek database. HBG (historical board gaming) has a lot of potential that I would like to pull into this forum. Then there is shapeways pieces.
I hope that there are future plans for campaign level games, Kurks, Stalingrad, Midway. I know HGB have a lot in the works, but besides Amerika things seem to have fallen short.
Well that me and my A&A experience and aspirations.
Matt

RE: Unofficial AAA1914 House Rules & Variants
@Arreghas
Very interesting set of House Rules. I was working on a similar thing, but lost my flash drive.I’m wondering if you had any ideas for poison gas warfare? I was developing some of that into mine. I might piggy back my material into this to keep it all together.

RE: Adding Tac Bombers from AAP40!
I find the idea of adding Tactical Bomber intriguing and given the fact that Axis & Allies Guadalcanal came out before the separation of bombers into Tactical and Strategic I think makes this a excellent concept. Given the details from A&A 40 that Tactical Bombers represent dive, and torpedo bombers it would make sense to add this unit to A&A Guadalcanal. For the record I have just recently purchased A&A Guadalcanal off ebay and have not yet been able to play the game other dabbling on my own.
That said there would need to be limitations set namely that Bombers (Betty and B-17) are now Strategic Bombers, and can only attack airfields and ground units no longer Sea Units. The new unit the Tactical Bomber is able to attack both Sea and Land units, and has targeting ability including supply tokens. The Tactical Bomber would also be both carrier and land based. The Tactical Bomber would move between the Strategic Bomber and Fighter units. And being that Air Combat is the first phase of combat it would have first strike ability on its target similar to the submarine.
Taking into consideration the historical aspect the SBD Dauntless dive bombers were very effective against the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Solomon Island campaign. Most naval battles were fought without either ships coming within firing range on each other.
In summary I think Tactical Bomber should be included with a cost of 4, Air Attack of 1, Sea Attack of 2, Land Attack of 2, and select target.
What are everyone else’s thoughts?
Thanks,

RE: Axis & Allies Anniversary upgraded version
@Dagon81
Dangon 81
I want to repeat how intriguing this A&A Expansion is. I can see a lot of thought and work went into them. Not to take away from your work but to enhance it.First this part of France on pages 4 & 5 needs to include the part explaining the dice roll and the French units joining the Free French specifically the portion blocked off below.
France is non playable, either Vichy France or the Free French Forces. Vichy French units just defend their territories on land battles and whenever an amphibious assault takes place from the sea zone with their sea units. Whenever a non-occupied territory joins (through diplomacy) the Allies (Free France) /or is captured you place one Free French token on that territory. The more of these tokens on the board, the higher the probability other territories (and their units) join the Allies through diplomacy: [At the end of each round you roll one die for each non-occupied Vichy territory and these join the Allies on a roll of the same value or lower than the number of tokens on the board.]
Joining the Allies means you can change the units for either US or UK equivalent units. The IPC income of these territories goes to the UK if its French West Africa or Madagascar. The occupied territories of France or Morocco-Algeria don’t join the Allies through diplomacy; these territories have to be captured.Second a Seabase and more units (possibly a second infantry unit, and an artillery unit) could be added to the setup table of the Madagascar territory.
Historically Madagascar was an island that was fought over defended by the Vichy French for the harbor at the northern tip of Madagascar. According to Wikipedia Imperial Japan wanted to occupy this for a naval base of operations and cutting off the Allies to the Indian Ocean.
I hope you are able to update the A&A Expansion manual, and incorporate my recommendations.
Thanks

RE: Axis & Allies Anniversary upgraded version
Dagon81,
Excellent addition to A&A50!
I was reading through your explanation expounding on the rules book and noticed that on page 4 Free France the part about Free French tokens isn’t completed in that the dice roll is not included. From you post:
** Whenever a non-occupied territory joins (through diplomacy) the Allies (Free France) /or is captured you place one Free French token on that territory. The more of these tokens on the board, the higher the probability other territories (and their units) join the Allies through diplomacy: At the end of each round you roll one die for each non-occupied Vichy territory and these join the Allies on a roll of the same value or lower than the number of tokens on the board.**
Please try to add this in your rules page.
Another thought I had was regarding Vichy France and the set up on page 5. The thought was that some French units remain in France as defenders similar to the French Navy units. Maybe half the force remains intact following the German invasion like 3 infantry, and 1 artillery, and one fighter. As the game progresses these units are able to be used by the German player that is if France isn’t liberated or they are destroyed in combat.
Please give these some thoughts. It would be appreciated if you could incorporated them into your manual.
Thanks,
A fellow A&A enthusiast -

Excellent collection. Do you have a A&A 1914 set in the works? I know a lot of the Capitals are in the original A&A, but the biggest difference is Vienna the capital of Austria. Any thoughts there?
