RE: Can Russia survive? (Alpha +3)
One thing that many forget is that one major reason the Germans didn’t invade Moscow was Hitler moved his Panzer forces South to Ukraine to take Kiev. If he had pushed straight on to Moscow he would have taken it easily.
Hitler made several mistakes in Barbarossa, he attacked too late in the year because he wasted five weeks attacking Yugoslavia with forces that should have pushed into Russia. Also like I said earlier he diverted his tanks South, those two things combined with the brutal winter was the German Army’s downfall.
Of course with the game experienced players don’t have the winter to deal with, don’t care about Yugoslavia and march straight toward Moscowas fast as possible.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)
Awesome!
Now just gotta get setup cards made for my 1st. ed. game.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)
Curious, are there typos or misprints on the second ed. games?

RE: Implementing attrition rules to stop superstacks
Yeah but I was talking about the original A&A. With the new A&A I feel that the game is pretty balanced as far as purchasing is concerned. Also I understand that A&A is a simplified strategy game, even though I would like the game to simulate population problems as a war carries on.

Implementing attrition rules to stop superstacks
One thing that I never seemed to like about the Original A&A is the fact that the game always came down to the superstacks in Eastern Europe and Western Russia. I was thinking that a way to possibly make the game a little more open would be to institute maximum infantry rules for each country (they don’t have to be the same) in order to force more varied purchases for each country.
For instance if Russia had say, 30 infantry on the board they could not buy anymore until some were killed off. Maybe cap Germany at 25. I just think that the game would play better if we had some sort of cap system for the economies in order to rid ourselves of 100+ infantry stacks.

RE: Minor Threat's Alpha+3.9 (Global 1940) COMPLETE! Setup Charts
Have been getting confused by all the variants out there, is this concurrent with the second ed. games?

RE: DIY tuck box inserts
Ah the styrofoam dividers….those were the days, anyone else find themselves poking holes in them when it’s not your turn though? I kinda destroyed mine…whoops!

RE: Looking forward to this new addition
I agree that tanks and planes in 1914 are crazy. I really wished that Larry would have made a calvary unit to start the game out, that would have been very cool to see. I think as long as tanks are kept a rich man’s unit (i.e. only countries that have an economic advantage or are handily winning the war) this game will go far. Planes should be cheap but very ineffective unless used with infantry.

RE: When AA1914 will really be ready.
The 1 round of combat makes sense to convey the longer, more stalemate like atmosphere of the trench warfare. Tanks should be only 1 hit point better on attack as infantry, but just as slow movement wise and pretty expensive. This would make tanks only good for the power that can get a sizable economic advantage. The big things to consider are artillery, and troops. It is going to be very interesting to see how Larry takes these into account.

RE: Looking forward to this new addition
This game has the potential to be very exciting! I really hope that LH and Kreig did their homework and give us a game that will be fun for years, not just weeks and months. Because we don’t have a standard mold for WWI A&A games, I am open to all kinds of new possibilities with this game, and I expect that LH was as well. Personally I cannot wait!

RE: Playable Nations in 1914
I love the idea of countries falling into revolution, but how would we perform this? What factors would we use to tell if a country is falling into revolution? Certainly not a dice roll! The only thing I can think of is national objectives with turn limits:
(example: Germany must capture Paris by turn 10 or this will lead to rolling of two dice, the number is the number of revolutionaries that spawn in the capitol territory on the place new units phase and must be dealt with on the countries next combat movement phase, this only happens once in a game).
So instead of making the national objectives purely economy based, we can have a mix of some economy/citizen unrest. And I agree with Imperious that it would be silly to have China and Japan represented, focus on the meat of the conflict.
What say the rest of you about how can we implement the revolution system into the game? Oh, and I actually like making the USA a token power/neutral in the game. Face it, the French and Brits won that war, we were the straw that broke the camels back.

RE: When AA1914 will really be ready.
I hope they allow use of gas, and I hope they make the game just feel like a WWI game should feel. And I honestly don’t mind the game being a little unbalanced, I mean both WWI & WWII were unbalanced so I think it should be 60/40 split in allies/axis victories, close enough to make it fair but far enough apart to give the game a good historical grounding. Also if they intentionally make it like that then I feel that you could say that Allies are the easy faction to play and Axis are the more challenging, almost giving the game a slight handicap.
-
RE: They can't call it Axis & Allies!
You know they are here is why:
1. People don’t know the difference, but they do know the brand
2. Only wanks like us will complain, but still buy the game :)

RE: Are Yugolsavia, and Greece even worth invading?
Well I played my first game last night and the Brits took Greece on their first turn. I took it back but I had to kill 6 infantry (2 that landed off transport+ 4 from Greece). So I would say for Greece, yes, that should probably be occupied, plus Italy gets a bonus from it so it helps everyone out, axis at least….
Or is it better to leave Greece and let the Brits have it? It’s easier for Germany to steamroll any British troops on the continent than it is for Italy to kill them in Egypt.
Yeah I think my friend made a bit of mistake by taking troops from Africa and landing them in Europe. It just made Italy’s job easier to take Africa.

RE: Global Gaming Table Threads and Pictures
These are all really cool, I think over the break I have here that I’m going to try and fashion a table (especially since I don’t have one that can fit the entire global game). I’m thinking of something simple, raised edges with cubby holes for the piece boxes and removable legs so if I have to it can sit on the floor or up against the wall when not in use.

RE: Started to paint some troops….
Those look great, excellent job sir!

RE: Newest Setup by Larry
I believe for the Global game the Europe rules are in effect for the whole board, except for special pacific things like kamikazes and the like.

RE: Odd politics question
Calvin’s right.
Kreig must have to have his rulebooks laminated, all the fact finding he has to do for us, lol.
