combat Scenario, First player has Sea units and no air, the 2nd player has air units but no sea units. During the Sea attack can the 2nd player declare an attack on the sea units? I played and said yes. (2 Betty Bombers vs Aircraft Carrier & Battleship). Result 3/4 1s on the role for the bombers. first 2 hits went to the battleship which sunk since the first was ignored, and the second one destroyed the ship. The 3rd hit obviously went to the AC and sunk that. This obviously had to be the “last” sea attack since player one declared all the initial shots.

RE: Subs and Aircraft not as leathal …
in the order of destruction, the sub IS the last one to be destroyed in the fleet. The point is that you don’t send out subs to be a killing machine on their own, but they are the first to attack because of the move phase. It’s the roll of the dice gods that find their mark.
Even if you have a rule about shooting and not shooting, than destroyers can hit the sub at anytime. They’ve been equipped with active pinging to find the sub.

RE: Folding Game Table
To make a large number, and by keeping the price down. You can build battle boxes for the Guadalcanal game so that it’ll last longer. I be everyone will purchase that.

RE: QUESTION: Land units and Airfields
I like the fact that both units can be on an island and not have to keep battling until someone owns it.
It tooks days to take Iwo Jima.

RE: QUESTION: Land units and Airfields
land units wouldn’t attack the airfield anyways, you’d attack the opposing land units, and take the field once they’re all vanquished.

RE: Hidden Sea Movement
it acutally speeds things up because you are move all your ships at once and not waiting for your opponent to move one class, than another, than another…

RE: Is it a better idea to buy pacific or guadacanal
these games also factor in time. My brother and friends when they play take up to 8 hours playing Pacific and Europe, while Guadalcanal will only take 2 to 3 hours, or even less. It’s up to you.
If you like the conquer abilities, than go with Pacific.
If you have a time limit, go with Guadalcanal.
If you like a faster paced game, go with Guadalcanal.

RE: Axis & Allies Guadalcanal
I agree and disagree, the idea is to cycle the units on the board. If these factors were not added, than the board would be cluttered and players would have headaches keeping track of attrition, values, movement orders, etc.
Considering what happened in real life, the AA guns focused on bombers, artillery focused on landing craft, not the ship, since it’s like taking a baseball bat to a steer. You’ll bruise it and really piss it off, but not completely kill it. The ships on the other hand did take down a lot of aircraft since the AA guns there would focus fire their shots in the path of the planes. This was quite effective according to my grandfather who helped load the guns on transport ships. He did NOT stay below knowing that if the ship were to go down he would have a better chance of getting off the ship quickly. Whether he would be shot… highly unlikely, since he was behind the gunner and getting ammo that was passed down through armored hallways.
His weapon of choice was the thompson and would carry alot of ammo since he would spray trees killing any snipers in them during patrols. Other stuff would be fishing with hand grenades, since there were no fishing poles. Too bad we can’t do that now-a-days.

RE: Capturing an ennemy airfield + transport
Actually, the rules don’t say you can unload onto different islands, but they don’t say you can’t either. This is a designer clarification, and I am trying to get it added to the FAQ. This is a perfect example of why it’s important not to let the rules from one A&A game color your interpretation of the rules of another. We all tend to see things that aren’t there when we’re familiar with a similar subject.
It’s called Chaining and you can. if your Japan, and you have a ship in F, you can move ART and INF from Bougainville and Choiseul to NewGeorgia without moving the transport. Frankly the redeploy supply options will allow you to quickly drop land units off at Santa Isabel or Malita quickly. But if both are focusing on New Georgia, than there will be some big battles there.
Remember, Japan starts with a supply chain, the Allies don’t.

RE: Battle Box Paper Clip Pull-out Fix
To make the box last longer, is there was for a laminate or coating to place on it?

RE: No fear of airplanes
The planes are handled differently. They fly out without having to find a place to land until the return phase. You’re ships are the mainstay so the planes are sent out ahead or they arrive at the same location as the fleet. Their main goal is to either bomb the airfield, or add extra points to the rolls in a naval fight. In real life, the planes were the first to arrive during a fight rather than naval bombardment which is why they were shot up first. Most planes were damaged during engagement and not many bombers were seen there. Also, this engagement took days, not months, so there is no CAP, and all movement is directly involved. Destroyers, fighters, and infantry are disposable, remember that.

RE: Rules clarify - order of loss in sea battles
additional note. Here’s an example to print out. This helped me alot.
Example: I have 2 destroyers and a cruiser in the space, and you are rolling 6 dice.
Slot 1 2 3 4 5 6
Type Destroyer Cruiser Battleship Aircraft Carrier Transport Submarine
Result Hit Roll 1 Hit Roll 2 Miss Roll 5 Miss Roll 3 Hit Roll 1 Hit Roll 2* The first hit destroys a Destroyer because it’s a hit with a result of 1.
* The second hit will damage the cruiser because it’s a hit with a roll of 2.
* The next two shots miss.
* The hit of 1 on the transport will go back to the start of the line and destroy another destroyer, since I have no transports in the space.
* The hit of 2 on the sub will also go back to the start of the line, but there are no more destroyers left to kill (both have already been counted as destroyed from the 1’s). This will put a second damage on the Cruiser, destroying it.Obviously destroyers, fighters, and infantry are “cannon fodder”. The only way to get a sure hit is to get one on that spot of the ship such as a “Roll of 1” in the 5 location if there was an aircraft carrier. During the war, there were no countermeasures for ships, smaller ones including PT boats would get in the way of the torpedo instead of the larger ship and take the hit.
I thought there might have been a kamikaze in this one, but Japan didn’t start doing that until later in the war. Your choice for another house rule Token, but balance it out with something on the allied side.
