Nice work, man! Tight modding and clean brushwork.
Miss ye on the other boards. You should post there more often.
BTW, I used to play that MB game…loved it. Never owned it so I didn’t play as often as I wished. Hope you have a spare game since you’re chopping tanks. :-D
Crewed…barrel raises up and down. Added canopy frame and packs. Painted…new (and different) decals.
Some time back I did the sister ship of this one…the Royal Oak. Funny, but the plans for this one varied slightly in terms of bow width, etc. This one, IMO, is an improvement, and shows me how practice makes us better at what we do. It’s not my best work, but better than my first go-around w/ this class of battleship.
I didn’t see any pics w/ a plane so I didn’t put one in this time around. Pretty basic.
A little trivia: She is known for…oh what the hell, read for yourselves, and I quote Wiki "During one stop in Halifax on 12 May 1940, she accidentally rammed and sank the Canadian Battle-class trawler HMCS Ypres although without loss of life. For the duration of the war that she served, whenever Revenge came to Halifax, the crews of other gate ships would make elaborate and exaggerated “Abandon Ship” manoeuvres in mockery of the old vessel. " Funny bit o’ history.
Shortly after I decided to do this one, I came across a schematic on the web which showed newly discovered colors for her…nice timing. (source: http://archives.starbulletin.com/2006/12/07/news/story04.html)
@Imperious:
Is that ship in the middle a UK ‘monitor’ with the 15’’ guns?
I know they made them for coastal defense.
Dude…you know your ships. That is the correct answer. :wink: 8-)
I have no stat card for her yet but I had to make her. The look of her was just too cool…blistered hull and all.
Stukas got sick of her and put her to rest.
@Imperious:
how long to make each ship?
also can you post a close up of the fleet photo?
Roughly a solid afternoon plus 1 or 2 evenings is where it’s at now.
Here’s a better pic:

Thanks man.
I start w/ top and side drawings of the ship I want to make. Then I cut out the top-view drawing (or sections thereof) as a template and glue it to a polystyrene sheet, repeating this as many times as it takes to get enough layers for the height of the hull above the waterline. Next I cut out the templates and glue them together, and sand the sides flush, and with whatever angles the hull calls for. Keep in mind that the hull will come in several sections so each template will be cut accordingly. The same goes for the turrets and superstructure. Barrels, masts, etc., I make w/ wire/guitar string.
Just discovered the modding forum here. Very cool.
Per the title…
@Der:
I like the picture of the Me-262 screaming in from out of nowhere when Boris sticks his head out of the woods :P
So how much luck has anyone had with countering it?
I’ve shot 2 down so far w/ basic combined forces. I think they balance well in the game but they are not invincible. Frankly I would rather have seen all planes 5/5 and give the jets antiair 2, but that’s just pointless retrospect. :-D
But I love playing that plane, and fear it somewhat on my opponent’s side but not paralyzingly so. They can’t shoot crap in the woods. Good place for ammo dumps…another good unit.
Maybe someday we’ll get a proper tank-buster ME 262. That would be slick.
Another good plane is the Dournier, as a defense unit. Making that no-return-fire kill is sweet.
It’s a monster. And I have yet to play it but had 2…my own minis, played against me. :x
Even without the rocket attack it’s a killer.
As far as the Goliath being only “single-use” it might be more plausible if it were fewer points. I might say make it 3-4 points instead, if every time you use one it gets destroyed…
That would be an interesting and decent way to handle the realism part.
They are deadly SOBs though. One Hit my IS-3 twice…a disrupt and then on the next turn a damage. A Hungarian AT gun finished my tank off from behind. So yeah, I learned to respect them. (My opponent used the ammo dump. That made alot of difference actually. Deadly combo, that.)
Playing without a turret is just plain dangerous anyhow. Jags are scary until they can’t hit you and, as was stated, can’t move. Then they’re just bricks.
I used Brit Paras to kill a vet Tiger and it killed one or two of them in the process, thus could defend itself even if only for a little bit. In some battles, that little bit is all that matters.
Very happy w/ the Fallschirmjager. Simple 5/5 para w/ a decent attack. No superhero abilities to get in the way of good tactics. Same reason I liked the Defiants.
Now the Germans can play on an equal tactical footing.
@Der:
….Also for the mixed game, I’m working on rules for calling in fire from local battleships, etc.
That’s cool. I plan on overlapping games for scenarios too.
And I agree. Even though they’re bigger, and even if they’re of good sculpt and paintjob, the price really has me down. I would not call it generous on the company’s part.
Q1 2007 will be a time of tough decision I’m afraid. Until then…game on.
Well, it’s official.
Per WoTC Bob:
_Starter Set: $24.99, 1 Rare, 2 Uncommon, 8 Common
Booster: $14.99, 1 Rare, 1 Uncommon, 3 Common
For scale, the Iowa is just a shade under 6" long. The Enterprise is about 5 3/8" long and a U-Boat is about 1 1/2". Yes you can see the U-Boat._
This will be a good game, I think. The rules so far look very interesting, and the maps, 2.5 x 3.5’, will not have hexes.
Monday, WoTC Bob will release information on pricing, rarity, etc.
Each booster will have 5 minis, the starter set will have 9. I expect the starter to be approx. $24 like the ground-based game. Hopefully the boosters will be cheaper, or that if they are $15 like the ground-based game, the minis are exemplary in sculpt and paint.

Could this be the end? This army seems indestructable. I cannot beat it.
Veteran Tiger - 65
4 SS Panzergrenadier - 20
Haupsterfuher - 7
Grizzled Veteran - 8100 Pts.
I beat an army very similar to this except that there was no Grizzled Vet and the other guy had a sniper…and the builds were slightly larger.
Go w/ what Der Lieter said and avoid vehicles. My build was an all airbore one…British.
Try this:
Defiant Paratrooper x 10 = 80 pts
Inspiring Hero x 1 = 9 pts
Veteran SMLE Riflemen x 2 = 10 pts (remember these guys have steely resolve)
Total = 99 pts
Paras and Aussies should be able to toast the few infantry there. Protect the hero so that he can give you speed to trap and kill the tank. You should be able to keep it at least disrupted once you trap it.
Well, that’s almost 2 successes. Good job. The SEs are definitely better but the Defiants are still good substitutes.
What I believe you can do w/ the hero is when you land the paratroopers, place the hero w/ one of them. Since he deploys at the beginning of the movement phase and not the end like the SEs, he should be able to move right away. Therefore, if you place a SE behind the Vet Tiger, you should be able to place the hero in the hex next to the Tiger’s rear and hopefully either move into the Tiger’s hex on the attack or force the Tiger to move. If you’ve managed to surround the Tiger decently, preferrably around forest or hills, he will be in trouble.
Of course you should try to coordinate this w/ an attack from another tank.
Try this 180 Allied army against your friend’s Vet Tiger build:
5 x SE = 45
1 x SE capt = 11
1 x Quad 50 = 10
1 x Resourceful Hero = 8 (reluctantly submitted)
1 x Vet Sherman Rhino = 26
1 x Pershing = 65
3 x Flamethrower = 15
The idea is to get the SEs around it at the right time and try to disrupt it, hopefully saving the hero for when you lose a tank…which you will. This build looks to the support that the Tiger will certainly have. I went for the Pershing and a Quad 50 because at 180 pts, you can’t rule out a Stuka or two.
Things will, of course, heavily depend on the map and available cover. Eh, give it a shot.
And yes, DL and Grim are right. Play w/ an objective when you can. In lieu of a cooperative opponent, try the above and let me know how it works out if you would.
