@DoManMacgee Yes, only the Out Of Box rules, including the Russian Revolution.

Sea Units moving out of contested zones
Can units move from sea zones containing enemy units into sea zones containing enemy sea units? For example, if a USA destroyer is in a sea zone with a Japanese destroyer, can the USA destroyer move into an adjacent zone that contains a Japanese Destroyer as well? or does it have to stay in the sea zone it was or move to a friendly/neutral zone?

RE: Bombay Strategy - that leads to victory for the CPs
@Tamer-of-Beasts I certainly don’t think that it is a perfect strategy, largely due to the Russians ability to prevent a clean sweep to Bombay, but I think that it might be good start the game. If the plan fails then it is as if the CPs just did a classic invade-Russia strategy and then can return to the west. If the plan succeeds, which I find to be very possible in many cases, then they have a shot at a quick and easy victory that no other strategy seems to achieve (at least against skilled or experienced players).
I would enjoy a game on tripleA with anyone who would like to, I just need to figure out how to play online as I have had some problems with it.

@AndrewAAGamer It sounds awesome! Thank you for writing a thorough review, I am definitely going to buy the game.

RE: Is it worth it?
@AndrewAAGamer How would you rate it out of 10? and how would you rank it amongst other versions?

Is it worth it?
I am considering pre-ordering this game, is it worth it?

RE: Bombay Strategy - that leads to victory for the CPs
@Tamer-of-Beasts If Russians try to play aggressively by, for example, placing their army in Poland, then the CPs can simply coordinate attacks against it or bypass it. If the Russians play poorly then the CPs may have a chance to destroy the force before it grows. If the Russians play well and unite their force, then the CPs can take their time to travel around the army, with the Austrians, forcing the Russians to either go crazy and attack deep into Germany/Austria, or pull back to Moscow/Ukraine. If they pull back to Moscow then the CPs can simply continue to Bombay after triggering the Russian Revolution. If the Russians pull back to Ukraine, then either the Plan will be canceled in favour of triggering the Russian Revolution and returning to the west having suffered few casualties, or triggering the Russian Revolution and capturing Sevastopol to open the route to Bombay. They may decide to do something else but these are the main options that I have found work.

RE: Bombay Strategy - that leads to victory for the CPs
@Tamer-of-Beasts I have found that as long as the Central Powers reach Bombay by rounds 5 to 8 then they have a good chance of succeeding. The total troops the CPs can reach Bombay by with by that time is well over 100, against a British force of 60 to 90 troops. While the CPs are at a disadvantage because they are attacking as three armies individually and will suffer more casualties, they should have an overwhelming ratio of troops compared to the British.
(Note: the CPs could hypothetically reach Bombay by round 8 with over 150 units, this comes at the cost of losing many of the territories in the west.)
In the game that I won using this strategy, the British had produced and stationed in Bombay an army of about 85 units with air-superiority. Meanwhile, the CPs had a combined force of about 120 units (including reinforcements that arrived in subsequent rounds of the battle in Bombay). While I might have had a little bit of luck on the dice rolls it certainly was evened out by the lack of air-superiority. The Russians are the only roadblock for the CPs, but they are forced to abandon defending Moscow if they are to have a significant effect. If they send half of their army to Moscow and to block the CPs, then the CPs will destroy both armies individually or destroy the blocking army and trigger the Russian Revolution. If the Russians send their entire army to block the CPs, then the CPs will simply defeat Russia and move back to the western front with practically no casualties. Most players who control Russia will never even consider abandoning Moscow, and the defence of their country, just to block a “possible” attack against Bombay. Therefore, while the strategy is not perfect due to the Russians ability to block the CPs, the British can do little to defend Bombay by themselves.

Bombay Strategy - that leads to victory for the CPs
I think I may have figured out a new strategy for the Central Powers that leads to victory, but i would like to see if it stands up to anyone trying to disprove it as I have only played it in a solo game.
The main objective of this strategy is for all three Central Powers to work together to capture Bombay by something like round 8 at the latest. The key steps to complete this objective is as follows (note: this strategy requires the Russian Revolution):
-
Germany and Austria sends most of their units east to knock Russia out of the war. They also spend 1 or 2 rounds producing units to send east as reinforcements.
-
The Ottomans focus on building an army to attack Bombay while mainly holding their position for the time being. They also can attack Greece and Albania to increase their income.
-
Germany and Austria need to manoeuvre their units to Ukraine where they threaten to capture Moscow, territories surrounding Moscow, and also sets them up for an ideal striking position into India.
-
Once the Russians have been knocked out of the war (likely via the Russian Revolution), all three Central Powers must begin their advance towards Bombay.
-
By round 6 they should have all reached and begun attacking India.
-
After 1-3 rounds they should have captured Bombay.
Aftermath:
With the Middle East dominated by the Ottomans/Central Powers their total income compared to the Allies will be much larger. The fall of Bombay means that the British cannot produce units in the Middle-East. With the fall of Bombay, the Ottoman’s fall attention can be turned to invading Africa and stealing additional income of the Allies, or/and even assisting the Germans and Austrians in Western Europe. If the Allies decide to send reinforcements to Africa then they will slowly become outnumbered in Western-Europe. If they decide to launch an offensive in Western Europe then they will have to abandon Africa, losing a significant amount of their income. The Capture of Bombay increases the difference of income between the Allies and Central Powers and allows a unified Ottoman army that threatens to capture Africa if the Allies don’t divert much needed troops away from the Western-front and Italy.
Potential Alterations:
-
If the Russians play aggressively and inflict heavy casualties on the Germans and Austrians then the Central Powers may need to delay the offensive a round or two and send more reinforcements.
-
If the Allies play aggressivley on the Western-front, then German and Austria may have to fall back, however, this situation will only help reduce the number of defenders at Bombay.
Possible Allied counter-strategy
-
The biggest threat to this strategy is if Russia sacrifices themselves to block the passage to Bombay via Sevastopol using all of their units. The Central Powers will struggle, likely fail, to complete the strategy via the Turkish Straits due to the distance.
-
The other threat is if the Allies work together to defend Bombay. Even if Britain spends all of their IPCs on the defence of Bombay, there is a good chance that it will still fall. However, if France and maybe even Italy help reinforce Bombay, then they might be able to defend it.
Conclusion:
In the year that I have been playing this game, the Bombay strategy has been the only one that has lead to victory. It involves a standard attack-Russia strategy that most players likely would not suspect is also really a Bombay strategy. The Americans can do little but defend what ground the Allies still have in Europe or Africa by the time they arrive. The Italians will only be trying to survive against the Austrian army, maybe even forcing the Allies to divert units to assist them. The British will have to focus on defending Bombay as much as possible or accept the loss of the city and construct an army in France that will ultimately have little influence. If the Central Powers succeed, then their combined economies, and the ability to attack Africa to further decrease the Allies income, will inevitably lead to a victory for the Central powers. Of course this strategy requires a certain amount of secrecy, deception, and skilled players, but it is, I think, the best strategy for the Central Powers that does not involve an unreasonably long gameplay.
If anyone could please criticise this strategy as much as possible (without being rude) and tell me what you would do if you were the Allies or Central Powers, it would be appreciated.

RE: Spare axis and allies chips
@Imperious-Leader First of all, chill man, secondly I have contacted renegade but it will take time for them to respond, I just thought that perhaps someone on “Axis&Allies.org” may know some place that sells the unique counters as I know places that sell the other pieces. I didn’t mean to be picky or rude and I assume that’s why you reacted badly.
Thanks again for your help.
