Just got the newsletter so thought I’d roam back over to this board. Interesting to see a WW1 game, but after the debacle that was Global 1940, I think I can wait a few years to pick up a copy. Make sure all the rules have been ironed out…and the game they send is complete…
/Can’t believe I paid money to be a beta tester for Global A&A, no thanks!/
Larry you work out the rules and make sure the product is complete and then MAYBE I will spend some money on it, after reading the reviews.

RE: Allied bid placement strategies
An unasked for observation I know, but Triple A is easier than battlemap. Sure you gotta download the program and then get the corresponding map, but it’s all setup for you. Finding opponents is really easy and you can get a game done in about 4 hours. You really should try it Gamerman.

RE: Allied bid placement strategies
You wont see that bid in the league though…
I played alot of TripleA live and I was quite successful with inf egy ss 35 as my standard bid in dice games. I’ve also used that bid in most of my ladder games and generally I’ve done well except against the best of the best.
Positive you beat me once with that placement, I go under the handle of DanGer on TripleA. It was after losing to you that I started experimenting with a sub bid!:)

RE: Balancing OOB Global
I like A2 with the addition of War with Russia/US if london falls, that has been the most even iteration of the game so far.

RE: First turn UK industry buy in Egypt - how do you counter it
best counter is an easy Sealion.

RE: Adjacent Territories
KNP is right, the single most important item when constructing a board game…the board…was slap-dashed and rushed and put together in a hurry so they could sell it, it has many errors around the America’s and various other sea zones…G40 must be the worst produced A&A game I’ve ever played.(no interest in Guadalcanal)

RE: Are these latest changes the last?
So when these new prints of Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 come out, they will mainly be minor changes to the map and a re-writing of the rules to reflect the latest Alpha+3 setup, right? And perhaps the correct number of tac bombers for Japan and a correct battle strip in Pacific 1940.
The rest of the games will basically be the same in regards to the pieces and other materials, right? EG: blue Soviet pieces for France and brown German pieces for Italy.
You know, one thing that would be a big improvement is if they reprinted Pacific 1940 with the higher quality cardboard pieces, like control markers, factories, bases, of Europe 1940 rather than that thin flimsy stuff.Flip the cardboard counters upside down and they become immensely easier to pick up with guy fingers.

RE: DEI Question
Crete is a separate Pro-Allies neutral territory.
Correct, and Crete is part of Greece.
-
RE: DEI Question
I think using Greece as an example is bad for this game because it has 2 territories. Its better to look at Turkey or some other neutral with only 1 territory.

RE: Cruisers, whats the point?
I would say you can have as many rounds of dice throwing as needed, just so long as you don’t conquer the square. It can be the only way to hold on to Moscow sometimes, to straffe that major German stack that just moved next to moscow.

RE: Cruisers, whats the point?
For the naval unit paring idea I would suggest just the CV/CA paring. Basically this would give players incentive to build CV fleets with CA’s in support, or BB/dd fleets for amphib assaults. There’s a good chance however that this rule change would promote CA purchases on a 1-1 ratio with carriers.
USN abbreviations: DD-destroyer
bb-battleship
CV-carrier
CA-heavy crusier -
RE: We need a quick answer
Yes they collect so long as US is not at war and FIC stays unoccupied.

RE: Cruisers, whats the point?
bombers just sitting there?? what game are you playing?
Won a game of anniversary Friday because my opponent was dead set on SBRing me. He sent his Russian bomber against Italy because it didn’t have an aa gun. I told him he should have sent it against finland, killing 6ipcs of inf and capturing 2 ipcs. Ground attacks are ALWAYS better than SBR because you can make money /and/ kill units.

RE: Cruisers, whats the point?
He got to crusiers move 4 cause of the +1 from NB’s. I think CA’s are just fine, /if/ they were to get a perk, I suggested to larry it be in the new theatre of Convoy raiding. Basically my suggestion was to make CRD happen only from tac bombers, CA’s, Subs and perhaps dd’s. This would fit their historical role of a fast surface ship plus greatly limit the amount of possible convoy raiding by surface ships.
Still, its not going to happen, CA’s are a little pricey but still serve a valuable niche as a cheaper Shore bombard and possilbe fleet build, I know I have at times built a DD/CA instead of a BB if I see enemy subs in the water.

RE: Idea for a 3+ Balancing Factor
This is a confusing post, are you saying that after playing G1 of the first round you feel the game is imbalanced? Might I suggest you play a little further before coming up with that and also don’t quit if London is taken, keep playing until the Victory condition is met.

RE: Can a AA guns fire at a planes…....
That was in a much older version of the game.

RE: OOB rules questions for global 1940
As I have explained before, the reason Chinese movement is limited is to reflect the historical fact that China was also embroiled in a civil war (Nationalists versus Communists) at the same time that it was fighting the Japanese invaders. As such, it had little interest in matters outside its own borders (keeping the Burma Road open for Allied aid being an obvious exception). This restriction keeps China from influencing the game outside of its borders without having complicated rules to represent the impact of this conflict.
Don’t forget about the warlord factions!:) Sure they were nominally supportive of Chaing but he had to keep a decent force back just to police his ‘allies’.

RE: Operation Sealion? Really?
I understand that basic plan, but I still don’t see how it’s possible. Here’s what I’m thinking…
1. The British player would have to be terrible and not realize what was going on. Considering the axis player isn’t playing against an idiot I would assume Britain would easily have enough time to build up a tough defense. If the German player is mildly proficient he gets the percentage up to 90-95%….good luck UK.
2. Germany would lose a lot of its aircraft taking out Britain’s fleet. Aircraft which in my opinion become vital for taking on Russia. Even if you win every battle against Britain’s navy, Germany is still losing 0-2 aircraft per battle. It’s not like you’re only attacking destroyers…you’re attacking battleships and cruisers and the possibility of scrambled fighters. It is devastating to the Luftwaffe, I usually buy a few aircraft the turn after London falls(with my new ipcs) to rebuilt it.
3. Germany wastes all of its starting IPCs buying an aircraft carrier and transports turn 1 for a risky plan. The IPCs seem better spent on units for the buildup on the eastern front.Wastes?? I cannot think of a unit that is a waste other than perhaps an aa gun. Still that German carrier means the fleet can survive in the Baltic just fine. I strongly suggest a German CV build even if you intend to go Barbarossa.
4. The remaining French and British ships can put up a sizable roadblock T2 to block transports…How? Germany can squash any fleet with its planes and boats prior to Sealion.I’m not trying to say a sealion isn’t possible. I’m just having a really hard time seeing how any of you do it without super lucky rolls and a terrible British player.

RE: Any news on reprint of both games ? Im hesitant to buy copies currently ><
The biggest issues we had were map imperfections and trying to figure out which sz’s line up with other sz’s around panama. Once you get clarification from his site though then you can figure out how to move in North America.

RE: Any allowance for "defective US torpedoes"?
How would you propose? I think this is going to get moved to House rules because in reality you are proposing the US handle a unit differently than other powers.
As an aside, German torps were some of the best in the war once they switched to electric torps, these would not leave a bubble trail for spotters to see.
