But if you have a place for playing tabletop that you can leave set up, I stand corrected, that’s even better lol.

RE: Pacific charts
Hey @Panther for giggles I pulled that link from the other thread and replaced the word “Europe” with “Pacific” and voila:

This is your rulebook for AAP (circa 2000). ;)

Sovietishcat (L) vs The Shrike (X); Sovietishcat wins! I thought I was bad at Allies, but it turns out, I’m just bad lol. I’m like 0-7 since starting the league but learn something every game. Well played Sov.

20+ years ago, I started at 10-35 in a certain club that played the CD 2nd edition rules. When I eventually (in a few years) got back to .500, I was one of the top 42 players. Every beating I took I made it be a new lesson for becoming better.
I’m old now. But you are not. Losses are just a lesson. You will become better. Never be discouraged. ;)
Besides, this is one of the few online games not completely manipulated by its makers. For what it’s worth.

RE: 1940 Global disconnect on the fourms
There is no turn limit. I have played a league game that I believe went 47 rounds several years back. I see a league game right now that is in round 27 (and I did a lazy search, so there may be ones in a later round).
The point of playing on TripleA is that you can save and play later. The best way to play imho is via the forums here. You have plenty of time between turns, no need to rush. :)

Nah, I’m 0-10 right now (probably soon 0-11) – I’ve taken a beating trying out new things. It takes a while to feel out all of the nuances (heck, I did that once and now I’m having to re-remember).
Take it all as a learning experience. As long as you enjoy the game, you will eventually find your way.

RE: We need an allied playbook.
Well, we can agree to disagree.
I will just state this fact. a US bomber built in WUSA can make it to Moscow 3 turns later, killing Japan units when needed on its way from WUSA to Queensland to India to Moscow. Bombers can defend a large stack almost as good as infantry, and they sure get there a heckuva lot quicker.
So, as the USA you can focus on Japan while reinforcing Europe when needed. Or killing a med fleet if Moscow falls – making the capture of Egypt more problematic.
The bottom line is that they are very fast and very flexible.
And, of course bombers hold blue water (be they USA or Japan) – they create very large dead zones, thereby protecting said water on their way to protecting Russian land…

RE: League General Discussion Thread
You should look at my 2-13 record with regard to tier. I at least know which players will spank me appropriately, not too hard and not too soft… :P

RE: We need an allied playbook.
@taamvan well of course it can be deeper than that. The first round of carriers is to support ANZAC. What the bombers do in addition to full board support is to keep Japan’s navy pretty much grouped together. Every game is different, but the key is this: keeping Japan from winning. If you can do that, and then shift to Europe/Egypt, the Allies have good chances even when Moscow falls.
In the end, Moscow will fall against a good German player. That’s really when the game begins, not ends. Keeping the Axis out of Egypt is the key. And, if the US can send planes to make the taking of Moscow more painful to Germany (and not the UK) and to clear the Med and so forth, then the UK can focus fully on Egypt. This is the key to Allied victory imho.
A bomber only costs 12 ipc’s. If you can hit a land stack in one go (say with 25 bombers) then indirectly those bombers control land. And, if you consider the costs of transporting US troops to the mideast, bombers are actually cheaper than infantry when you do the math (and more effective).
Everything counts in large amounts… :)
EDIT: Consider how far ANZAC planes can go on US carriers. US moves then ANZAC before Japan. Even more dead zones are created in the Pacific this way.

RE: Can Germany have more than 2 aircraft carriers in play
Right, this would work. I mean, how do you limit the amount of aircraft carriers to two, but you can have like 87 in one sea zone (with chips)? This isn’t monopoly… :D
EDIT: By the way, if you have 87 german AC’s in the Central Med in 2nd edition, ain’t no way Allies are taking out that German fleet. Just sayin…

RE: Find League Opponents Thread
Well, I didn’t die… =)
Without going into grave detail, let’s just say that I’ve now used up at least two of my nine lives. But I’m starting to feel like myself again, and it looks like League is still going strong after all this time. That’s a cool thing – you guys are great!
So, I will throw my hat into the ring for a few games to get started. It’s been a while, so be easy on me lol.
I am completely new to the Balanced Mod thing (I couldn’t find the thread stickied but I may just not have been looking in the right place – found it in a google search), but I’d like to give it a try. Do we still bid for Allies or is it pretty balanced in that regard? I’ll look for more info in the meantime.
If you are interested in a game PM me and/or respond here and let’s have some fun!

RE: Axis and Allies Classic 10 part series on YouTube
Avin is right. 23 was a very hard bid to play as Axis. The difference was that 24 allowed that 8th infantry to be placed which seemed to give the Axis the advantage (but at 23 I contend that Allies have the advantage with good player vs good player). My experience in 2nd edition play was AAMC, so it seems to have similar experiences with DAAK.
In 3rd edition (which is what the CD clubs played, “Spring1942” was where I was an officer for a bit – I think that started a bit over 20 years ago, omg) where the BB’s have 2 hits and so forth, the debate on bid was at 18. If you didn’t want to face a 6 inf Power Europe bid, then you would bid 17. One of the tournaments I directed played a Swiss System tournament where there were even amounts of Axis and Allies assigned (just like White and Black in chess tourneys) and there was a fixed bid of 18. Honestly, the results were pretty darned even. This was for the second tier players, but those said players were still 99% better than anyone just playing casually on the real board.
If playing Russia Restricted (like the “Utah” rules in the club that became AAWC) 3rd edition, I liked Axis at 6, but others would give me a 12 bid and still kill me as Allies, so that one was more interesting…

RE: We need an allied playbook.
US Playbook: summary
Turn 1: Buy all carriers, put them in the Pacific.
Turn 2: Buy bombers
Turn 3: Buy bombers
Turn 4: Buy bombers
…
Turn 27: Buy bombers
That’s the long version. The short version is “carriers then bombers for life” :)

RE: Axis and Allies Classic 10 part series on YouTube
After watching, that Persia move is only valid in Russia Restricted. There is a WORLD of difference between Russia Restricted and non Russia Restricted. That world of difference is (85% at least) the battle of Ukraine. Russia can completely crush Germany there. That’s why the 18 bids are needed – to offset that crushing. Bids in Russia Restricted range from 6-12 (Utah rules, where there is no tech until round 4 and such).
So, there is never a time in a no bid game that Russia shouldn’t hit Ukraine, and, I do like the Persia move in Russia Restricted (I do it slightly differently, but it’s the same in concept).
I now know why I prefer 3rd edition rules – 2 hit BB’s, and no stupid unit restrictions based on the number of pieces in the box. I mean, I can chip bomber stacks up to 100, but if I dare try to break that 100 into 4 stacks then the world ends. Doesn’t make any sense. :)
EDIT: The reason for taking Ukraine in that scenario is killing a German fighter in addition to a lot of other reasons. That fighter loss will compound as Germany progresses, even in the North Sea or other places (one less attacker will mean more losses). Japanese fighters aren’t as important, which is another reason you can leave Manchuria as a strafe. But German fighters are dear.

RE: We need an allied playbook.
@Guam-Solo said in We need an allied playbook.:
Didn’t Hitler think he could just bomb Britain into capitulation? Seems like “boots on the ground” is always necessary and US needs a shuck system in place for this. Aircraft can’t take territories and can’t defend fleets needed to bring in troops to Europe–if US leaves shucking to the Brits. Have you play tested the light skies strategy against good opponents?
Yes, I’ve played it right here on these boards. Been gone a few years but back playing in league, and it’s the strategy I’ve used pretty much throughout. I’m not the best league player, but I’m not the worst either…
EDIT: So, I think the playtesting has involved about 30 games so far, although I’d have to find my older games.

There hasn’t been a change. In fact, the rule was mentioned in the 1991 rules clarification document. You must have been playing it wrong!
Well, that explains it. I wasn’t playing PBEM 2nd edition until the early 2000’s – no one would play with me irl in 1984… :(

RE: Question about Blitzing
@Cpl-Hicks said in Question about Blitzing:
In my opinion. Yes, you can! However only as a part of a Non-Comabt move.
This isn’t quite correct, since it says you can move into the neutral but not through the neutral. Your unit stops in the friendly neutral and the neutral becomes your territory at the end of the noncombat phase.
