I’d like to know if anyone has developed an alternate setup for either AAR or AA50. I am not looking for historical accuracy - I’m looking for a setup that produces the most exciting gameplay.
I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I like A&A not because it’s based on WW2, but because of the gameplay and mechanics.
So, I’m looking for a setup that would enhance gameplay. I can’t help but think that some “exciting” setup options are sitting on the cutting-room floor simply because they are not historically accurate.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

RE: How will AA42 promote a Pacific Theater?
I’ve been intrigued by a shorter and quicker A&A game with AA50 rules and quality, but one question is without answer so far. I guess everybody (or almost everybody) can agree that AAR main problem was the lack of a meaningful Pacific theater. Assuming NOs are too complex for a game of AA42’s scope, how will Larry & co. promote a Pacific theater in AA42?
- A victory condition stipulating that Axis wins if they control all at-start European and Pacific VC plus Leningrad, Calcutta, Sydney and Honolulu.
- A changed IPC allocation: take IPCs from Africa in UK’s case and Latin America in America’s and put them in the Pacific. For example: India & Australia at ‘4’, Burma at ‘3’, Phillippines at ‘4’, Hawaii at ‘3’ and Wake+Midway+Solomons at ‘1’ each should really change things. Africa could have fewer territories and Mexico, Panama and Brazil be reduced in value.
- Nothing (This will probably be my vote.)
IPCs in case 2) here would represent morale & political factors rather than raw materials etc, but that’s OK for me. I’m sure the British and American war effort would have been less effective if Australian, Indian and Hawaiian citizens would have been hauled into Japanese POW camps while Churchill and Roosevelt did nothing… Basically 2) does the same thing as NOs with less complexity, which should be what AA42 needs.

RE: Why is 1942 scenario so unpopular???
1943, heck, the war was pretty much over by then.
Well, if anyone can make it work - it would be IL!

RE: My take on LL versus Dice
My friend and I are considerint playing a LL F2F game this Friday - does anyone have thoughts on this? Is there any difference playing LL F2F vs. online? Does anyone else do this? Also, how are subs/bombardments/anti-aircraft calculated?
Thanks. -
Where is the Moderator Forum?
I’m looking for this thread: A&A: 1942 Edition
IL moved it to the Mod. Forum - where is that?

RE: Bigger map options?
Imperious Leader made a REALLY nice large map. I believe he has it posted on mediafire for download. I don’t have the link though…

RE: A&A: 1942 Edition
@Imperious:
well concepts from AA50 seem to make their way to this game, so what you got is evolution of the game taking the best ideas from different AA games. But the map and set up would be different because cruisers now make their appearance.
But for $25 bucks you got a new set of pieces for 5 nations and that is what you will use for AA50…basically swapping the pieces. I think Larry finally got the message from the piece junkies who wanted new pieces.
Why would cruisers effect the map? You mean sea zones would be cut different b/c of the bombardment of cruisers?

RE: What is the Axis and Allies Delux Edition?
It’s an idea that Larry Harris kicked around for a while. Basically, it was to be Revised with “premium” components and a large price tag. There were also discussions of an “advanced” edition that would incorporate more complex rules. Eventually, these two concepts melded together and became the Anniversary Edition.
well, 2 out of 3 isn’t too bad… thanks to WOTC for coming up short on the third…
What?! I thought it was expensive enough! LOL

RE: Where do you live?
Interesting that Cali is leading the pack…
Are there any other Western New Yorkers out there besides Kepler and myself?
I’m from NY city if that helps
Sure! That’s only a stone’s throw away… as long as you can throw a stone 70mph for 7 hours!

RE: World War One
@Imperious:
use you axis and allies pieces and buy Table tactics central powers set.
Also, goto www.scalespecialties.com and look for navwar for the zeppelins
They have armored cars and tanks too if you want metals.
If you want real ww1 infantry, buy 1/72 scale hat/ airfix ( see toy soldier review. com for pictures. They have cavalry too
For real ww1 planes goto www.brookhurst hobbies.com look tumbling dice vapor trails 1/700 scale planes
The entire set would be about $150 for all nations. The game has been played hundreds of times over the years. Its gone thru alot of playtesting so you will find it probably better than Axis and Allies.
Just to clarify: it would be (approx.) $150 if I ordered the pieces from these retailers, or I can order them from you for $150?
Thanks. -
RE: World War One

RE: World War One
Nevermind - I found it.
Question: Besides Italy, there seems to be 4 other different shades of green (Belgium, Albania, Moldavia/Romania, and Bulgaria/Phillipolis). Which power controls these territories?(Sorry - I don’t know a whole lot about WW1 :|)

RE: World War One
Okay, when I click on the link you provided for the map - it says there are 149 files to choose from. Which one is it? Can I search for it by the date you posted it?
Thanks. -
RE: World War One
Well, turns out I didn’t have to look very far… Thanks!
