Yes, you can attack a sub with a fighter or bomber; and yes, if the aircraft misses, then the sub has the option of submerging. Also, the sub cannot return fire to an aircraft.

RE: Allies question
Any units that occupy a territory that is attacked can defend. So both your US and UK troops would defend against the Japs.

RE: Is Russia always doomed?
I usually play a very conservative Russia. On R1 I usually ONLY attack WRussia, and fortify the crap out of Karelia and Caucasus. This strategy doesn’t work for long b/c Germany gets too strong; but the UK needs to get troops into Russia via transports and aircraft in UK1 or UK2 at the latest (depending on where Germany parks her naval fleet from SZ5). Many times I will also send a couple infantry (and sometimes a fighter too) to Sinkiang for support until the US can build an industry and start pumping out units by US2.
Just my 2 cents… -
RE: UK Fighter to attack Japan's Trn (59)
Others may disagree with me, but when I play the Allies, I ALWAYS put an industry in India - I think it’s integral for the UK to start putting ground troops into Asia by round 2. I also like taking out Japan’s transport in SZ59 with the UK fighter on the AC off India. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of landing that fighter in China…

Which A&A variant game is the best?
Hey - I’m not sure I’m posting this thread in the right spot (mods - please move in need be…), but I wanted to buy another A&A game (I have Revised already) such as Pacific, D-Day, Guadalcanal, etc. I was wondering what you guys think the best variant game is. Thanks!

RE: How do you counter KJF?
From the avalon hill FAQ for revised edition:
Map
Does sea zone 14 connect to the Balkans? Does sea zone 35 connect to French Indochina?
No in both cases.Alright… I concede - I can’t argue with Avalon Hill. (But for the record, I think AH did a poor job of drawing that sea zone line!)
Thanks guys - Sorry for the trouble! -
RE: How do you counter KJF?
I just looked at my physical gameboard - to me its clearly adjacent by at least 2/8 to 3/8 of an inch. I know that is small - but adjacent none the less. Again - I’m not trying to be difficult, I just dont understand how youre drawing the conclusion that its not adjacent. Thanks

RE: How do you counter KJF?
Well all the online gameboards clearly show that FIC is NOT adjacent to SZ35, but I could swear that my gameboard at home does… Oh well…
But still, what do you think about the 3 inf from India attacking FIC along with the fig in Egypt? -
RE: How do you counter KJF?
No offense intended, but when I get outta work tonight I’m going to check my gameboard at home - I’m not convinced yet! Sorry

RE: How do you counter KJF?
@ncscswitch:
No units (other than those already in India) can be picked up by the UK SZ35 TRN on UK1 to land in FIC.
To grab Egypt, TJ or Persia units the TRN would make 1 move to SZ34, and its second (and last) move back to SZ35.
So the extra INF and ARM cannot reach FIC for a UK1 attack…
I realize I’m the new guy on the block, so respectfully I’d like to disagree. It appears to me as though FIC touches SZ35 next to Calcutta. Can I not conduct an amphibious assault with the transport?

RE: How do you counter KJF?
I realize that this is a thread about how Japan can counter a KJF, but on the flip side…
My buddy that I play A&A with (when he is the Axis) for some reason never attacks Ango-Egypt. Tell me what you guys think about this British strategy towards Japan in my case: SZ40 sub to Sol Is sub, SZ40 trn w/ 2inf to New Guinea, India fig to kwang trn (to land in Sink), Anglo-Egypt fig to FIC (to land in Sink), 3inf from india to FIC, India trn to pick up 1 inf and 1 arm to drop off in FIC.
By the way, I know it seems silly to leave Anglo-Egypt so loose, but US will land in Algeria to put pressure on Germany. -
RE: Hybrid Game
I know it isn’t helpful, but I agree with Adlertag - just buy the Revised Edition - you won’t ever regret it. I think if you play a Hybrid game you’re going to run into more problems than you think. For Example, you’ll have submergable subs, but no destroyers to “seek out” those subs. Just my 2 cents - Good Luck!

RE: Questions about AAguns
Another question… (if this has been covered already, I apologize)
Can the US (Eastern) bring both transports with 2 infantry, 1 tank, and 1 AA and conduct an amphibious assault on Algeria? I know that the AA gun can’t fire or anything, I’m just wondering if you can bring it with since this would be a combat move.
Thanks!Under the box rules, if the AA gun was already loaded onto a transport at the beginning of the turn, the other units could load and then amphibious assault during combat movement, then the AA gun could unload during noncombat movement. If the AA gun was not already on a transport, it would need to load onto the transport, move and unload during noncombat movement.
Under LHTR, the entire contents of the transport with the AA gun on it would need to move and unload in noncombat movement, regardless of whether or not the AA gun was loaded at the beginning of the turn.
Just so I understand you properly…
US1: AA loads a transport
US2: Infantry loads the same transport and moves to Algeria to conduct amphibious assault??? -
RE: Questions about AAguns
The way I understand it is that any time a fighter or bomber flies over a territory with an AA gun, they get to fire.

RE: Japan Strategy
With the guys that I play with, I’ve never seen a game where Japan heads south for Australia & NZ. In fact, when I play the UK, I ALWAYS send my sub and transport w/ 2 infantry to New Guinea (against their 1 infantry). I don’t think I’ve ever lost this battle (not that I couldn’t). I figure if I take NG, that’s a 2 IPC swing in the Allies favor. I also think it makes Japan use some navy to take out the sub and trn; which would alleviate some pressure for Hawaii or the India fleet.
