@colonel-ace I love it when people call it a “TORONTO” raid.

@Marco-Luti Conveniently,Russia has factories that can be "ahem"liberated in ukraine,st petersburg and volgograd.Cannon fodder volunteers can be recruited there to shield your panzers for when you want to free moscow from the bolshevics.

RE: Question Regarding Normandy/Bordeauxposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@barnee If a realistic opportunity to do Sealion is on the table,I want the factory, and to a lesser extent, the NB in normandy.I also like to eliminate the french inf/art so they can’t be taking holland. If allies land in normandy later they have to be dealt with even if it is still owned by france.

RE: The Italian playbookposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
@AndrewAAGamer On I1 it is a good idea to take at least 1 UK territory, usually for me somewhere in east africa but maybe cyprus or malta,to deny UK their 5ipc bonus for retaining all their original territories. As well it might be benificial to let germany take SFrance G1.It gives italy a landing spot for fighters and germany has the option of building ships in the med starting G2.

RE: [Global 1940] Island Bombardmentposted in House Rules
I don’t agree. An amphibious assault is a concentrated attack on a section of coastline chosen by the attacker.Naval gunfire can be directed at defending forces near the coast. An airbase can easily be far inland, and naval bases are usually well protected by shore guns and mines.

Of course you may have already done a J1 DOW and now are facing KJF.I’d keep buying land units and back up the navy close to asian ABs and NBs

RE: Kamikaze in Classic 3rd Editionposted in Axis & Allies Classic
So I’ve just been playing my old 98 hasbro CD game with kamakazi on.Many will recall that the CD was very glitchy,so a number of patches became available to download .I run it with a patch from A&AWC installed about 2010.Selecting the kamakazi option does NOT mean you can try to crash your planes into selected targets.lt simply allows any player to use all of their fighter movement on their combat move.100% the fighter will be lost before the end of your turn…hence the name kamakazi. It can still be lost to AA guns,or combat loss before literally running out of gas.
On the CD software the 1st fighters to go into battle are the 1st lost. This is important to know because, after the combat is resolved and a number of fighters remain to land ,it’s best to have the ones with most movement left.To test ,on J1 I attacked India with 2 inf 1 fgt from FIC plus 1 fgt(a kami) from philipines, making sure ,using the computer mouse ,to bring the kami in 1st.Therefore when I chose a fgt as 1 of my 2 casualties, the kami died and I was left with a fgt with 3 spaces of ncm available -
RE: [Global 1940] One rule to balance it?posted in House Rules
@simon33 I really like Crocketts France 1st idea.Always seems to me that it’s too easy for germany to kill szs110+111+106? as well as taking Paris.Historically,Germany needed the luftwaffe to defeat France. In early june1940 France had just replaced their top commander and was not yet at war with Italy.
I would suggest Frances 1st turn be restricted to non-combat.For their 19ipcs ,I place a TT in sz 93 to start plus 12ipc to spend on units.Keep in mind, not being at war with Italy ,France can pass through or park in szs95,96,97. -
RE: Sealionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
There is a name,(Scotch broth or something)for this sealion method. So some drawbacks may include,
#1 your transport fleet is vunerable in sz 111 after dropping off the 1st wave in scotland.
#2 If allies park a surface warship in sz 112 on non-combat,you can,t load your 2nd wave .I’m assuming your troops are coming from West germ or Norway…Maybe Italian air can deal with this .
#3 USA gets one more turn to build more units to destroy your fleet after you take london.BTW remember to take Eire from scotland .It takes away a possible landing spot.
Good luck and watch out for the USSR. -
RE: Kamikaze in Classic 3rd Editionposted in Axis & Allies Classic
#1 Let us assume that the enemy doesn’t score any hits against a kamikaze plane. Is that plane automatically destroyed then? At what time of the game then - during or at the the end of the Conduct Combat Phase or later during Noncombat Move or even later?
It’s destroyed at the end of noncombat. You need to use any remaining movement. If you’re like me,you may click done for NCM and the software will direct you to all the air units you have’nt landed. The planes flash. If any plane is unable to land it tells you eg"a plane ran out of fuel and was lost in the Java sea"
#2 If its possible you can land on a carrier, but you can choose not to.
#3 Having kamis activated does’nt require you to choose them as combat phase losses.I sent a tank and a kami fgt from west europe to egypt vrs 1 inf.Hit the inf but took 1 casualty.Software allowed me to take the tank as my casualty.Of course the plane ran out of fuel over Egypt and was also lost after NCM.

RE: Goose's Axis & Allies 1940 House Rules Threadposted in House Rules
@hengst This house rules forum is full of ideas. To avoid scripted games you need a varaiety ways to win or lose a game in a reasonable amount of time ,eg 8 to 12 rounds.BBR and 3G40 are rulesets that encourage you to win by achieving various victory objectives.(not just victory cities)
3G40 changes turn order, merges Anzac into UKPacific, and sticks pretty close to oob rules.BBR is more complex than oob and is real popular. Both are designed to play in 1 day and to be able to declare a winner. -
Poll.Russia wants to leave Baltic Seaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
OK,so you are Germany and not yet at war with Russia.
It’s Rd 1 or 2.
Russia asks you to allow it’s fleet through Danish straights. Do you say yes or no and why or why not?
IMO, I say let them out.I want control of the baltic .If Russia wants to risk its airforce to get my navy,I’m ok with that. -
RE: Transport to hostile sz then land units in friendly territoryposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
@genken Since sz 35 is not hostile, you would transport your troops to Egypt on your non-combat move(NCM).Keep in mind you need to own BOTH Egypt and Transjordan at the beginning of your turn to move your navy through suez canal. If the battle in sz15 goes badly and you retreat to sz 34,you can still have the transport join your fleet in sz34 and unload troops to Egypt from there as a NCM.

@TheGheko91 Are you wanting to make it harder to beat the AI when playing solo?
If so you can use the unit edit.Make the nation you are playing weaker by removing some starting units and/or add a few staring units to your AI controlled opposition.I find the AI will never capture 2 enemy capitals,so set it for economic victory, which you can adjust the numbers when setting up your game. -
RE: The Algeria Snakeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@cornwallis A guess it would be considered an axis counter strategy to “Gibastion”.Italy uses it’s fleet,2 loaded trannies, some air, plus bombards,to take Algeria on its 1st turn.
If all goes as planned ,Germany can hit sz 92 with all its air units G2.This gives Germany a legal spot to land fighters and tacs. It helps if Italy deals with the french in sz 93 too,so they don’t join up with the UK in sz 92.
Hope that explains it a bit.I just don’t know where the “SNAKE” name comes from. -

@FranceNeedsMorePower Absolutely,do NOT add a AB+NB to FIC in the set -up.It would be a very generous gift to Japan.

RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harrisposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@simon33 Well I set up my boards and studied Japans options.I think this is my J1.
1 buymic/tt/cv/2ss=47 ipcs
combat moves
3inf/fig/tb/sb>yunan plan to land air fic5inf /2art/fig>anweh land fig fic
sz 49 attack USN BB/tt/ca/dd with all ships in sz47 ss/dd/ca. Make sure to pass through sz 46 in case of retreat.Add 3 fig from sz 42 and 33.Make sure at least dd survives to block USN from sz26(hawaii)
sz62 attack Anz dd/tt with ss from sz49 and ca from sz 33. If anz hits 1, lose the ca.There should be no destroyer left nearby and sub can convoy sz62
last walk 1 inf into each> chahar, hunan, and from siam>shan state
noncom
use 2 tt to drop land units >kiangsi sz20
bb&2cv>sz 46 fill both cvs from sz49 and planes that did’nt participate in battle.
dd /bb and loaded cv from sz6>sz 35
dd sz19> sz6. keep adequate air @sz6/japanplace mic fic and ships sz6
I like this b/c it strands a lot of US units at solomon Is. and threatens Anzac.I invite all to comment and disect

I think versions of A&A starting in 1942 begin before battle of midway and after German defeat at Moscow.Sort of April or May 1942.
