RE: The Rules of Axis & Allies & Zombies
I was pretty skeptical at first too but picked it up anyway to check out the experimental mechanics. It was more fun and interesting than I expected. Strategy can’t be taken too seriously, but at the same time the zombies create some brain crunching situations at times. It’s more of a beer and pretzels experience but that also makes it fun for mixing different skill levels at one table. And the board has proven good without the zombies to teach new players on. It seems like the 1942 se expansion could use some refinement, but I’m glad it’s included too.

RE: Zombies 1942: How Does Axis Win?
@DoManMacgee I’ve used the OOB board without the zombies to teach new players, and so far I think it’s better than 1941 for that.

RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harris
@siparo does anyone know know what the standard bid is towards the Axis in this game?? Looking to test it out with a group for the first time and my initial impression is that it is heavily weighted towards the allies, although keeping Japan in check is going to be quite challenging.

RE: [AA50] Map Overlays - Splitting Australia, the Balkans, and Sea Zones; adding Cairo, Malaya, Singapore, Rio, Cape Town, Recruitment Centers and tons more!
Nice work, I was thinking the Anniversary map needed some updating here and there.

RE: Zombies 1942: How Does Axis Win?
My Initial feeling is that players should be rewarded for taking on the zombies as much as players are rewarded defensively for generating them.
Flipping a card and getting a tech doesn’t feel fun or interesting for anyone.
I’ve been playing around with killing x number of zombies in a turn generating tech rolls. Like 1 roll for every 5 zombies killed in a turn.
This way the players who kill the most zombies are the best at killing zombies.I’m not sure yet if this is enough to balance the game.
I’ve also been trying with boosting the IPC production of Germany and Japan capital territories, this along with the tech change seem to be helping the game balance for me.I guess this post fits more with house rules. But I don’t see any other way to balance the game and give the axis a chance.
If only changing the setup and no other rules I think Germany would need more tanks and aircraft. I would probably give more aircraft to Japan as well.
The only strategy that somewhat worked for me as the axis was picking territories for initial battles where I didn’t really want to be so that later I can go around the pile of zombies. But even this was really too much attrition for the axis. Then in territories you don’t want to clog up with zombies you have to go in with tanks and aircraft, plus you need some zombie tech.

RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harris
@klykke89 I think length depends a lot on the skill balance of the players. So far we only played it once, with a pretty skilled group of players, and it took an entire day. I think had we not been learning we would have resolved the game but I think it would still be 10-12 hours. We do tend to drink and banter a bunch though.

G40 Rulebook?
Has anyone made a combined and concise rulebook for Global 1940?
Introducing new players to the game and handing them 2 rulebooks and pointing out that some rules are stuck at the back of the books separately does not help the learning curve at all.
So I started thinking about putting something together, but wanted to see first if there’s anything existing.

RE: Custom map for AA50
@Azimuth yeah, I understand the challenge, I’m a graphic designer and I was playing around with a circular map design when I stumbled upon yours. I still might finish my design as I was incorporating some map changes I found interesting. But so far I think I’ll need some blow up boxes or something to make it work at a reasonable size.

RE: Custom map for AA50
@Azimuth it caught my attention because I have a round table in the living room that’s about 120cm in diameter so I was thinking if a round map could work at that size it would be cool, but would require a lot of distortion I imagine. Would be curious to see where your map is at now.

RE: 2 ocean USA strategies?
@vodot Yeah, definitely seems like the US would need some kind of economic boost if they have a split economy. I bet playing like this would be more historically accurate and more fun, especially with more than 2 players.

RE: 2 ocean USA strategies?
@vodot That’s a nice tip for a teaching game. I’m pretty sure in classic I at least hassled the player in a given ocean a bit rather than completely abandoning it. In a 2 player game is guess it doesn’t matter as much but playing with 4 or 5 players it’s feels odd for the US just to fight on one side of the board.
An alternate setup might be interesting where the US player is forced to fight both sides of the map. Perhaps with a split economy and/or shutting down the Panama canal.

RE: Axis & Allies and Zombies Q+A
@gregkamp Yeah, same feeling here. The situation where the mind control ray does have some power is when you are capturing new territories with a small force and there is a zombie or two left there after battle.
The way I understand it, once battle is finished you capture the territory, next in your non-combat the remaining zombie in your new territory can be pushed out and into enemy territory.
But I feel like this is still by far the weakest tech, seems like it should be cooler than this, maybe in testing it was too powerful and they nurfed it or something.

RE: Axis & Allies and Zombies Q+A
So far I feel like Z-4 explosives are crazy strong and the zombie mind control is super weak.

2 ocean USA strategies?
Are there any viable 2 ocean strategies for the USA?
