No. The decision to submerge is made in the “Press Attack or Retreat Step”.
This is before rolling the dice again.

To be clear, subs always fire in Opening Fire, before other units.  The presence or absence of an enemy destroyer simply determines when subs’ casualties are removed.  In your example, there is no attacking destroyer, so the casualties from the subs are removed immediately and will not get a chance to fire.  If there had been an attacking destroyer, the subs’ casualties would get to return fire.  Note that a sub hit by another sub will always fire, as both are firing simultaneously in Opening Fire.

In this game you don’t need destroyers in order to hit subs with air units.  The fighters will get one round of fire before the subs can submerge.  An attacking destroyer would simply keep the subs from submerging (forcing them to endure additional rounds of attacks) until the destroyer was sunk.

I think you’ve got it. Just to clarify, for America to collect income for a Russian territory, America must liberate the territory from an Axis power. If Russia retains control of a territory and Moscow is Axis-held, nobody collects for it until an Axis power takes that territory.

Fleetwood Dan is correct.  It’s land units only in the box rules, and both land and air units in LHTR.

In this case you could chose 1 bb to bom one place and the 2nd to bom another.

I’m not sure why TripleA would allow it.
But a singular BB can bombard only one territory, you can choose which one, but you shouldn’t be getting a singular shot in multiple battles.

Actually your right, I did have 2 Battleships, but now you got me thinking as to whether I allocated each Battleship to bombard separate territories. Given that this situation never crossed my mind uptil then, I may well have just clicked the default settings given to me without paying closer attention to how the Battleships were allocated…

But thanx either way for clearing this up for me  :-) (I’ll pay closer attention on triple-A next time… I might even try re-simulating the situation and see how the program handles it  :wink: )

Actually, this was teh thread that started teh whole thing that led to LHTR 1.3.  It was about using friendly ships that were already in an enemy occupied sea zone as fodder for your attack on those enemy ships.

Under the new LHTR that came out of this, the Allies can NOT use those US ships that are already in SZ59 as fodder for a UK attack on the Japan ships in SZ59.

Subs always can only hit naval units. It doesn’t actually make a difference in which step they fire when an enemy destroyer is present, as long as you can keep track. I prefer to roll black die for subs, white die for fighters, and in this manner get 2 types of units rolled hopefully in one toss of the die.
