Noob question - aircraft movement.

not to my knowledge. there are units in war at Sea that units can split their main gunnery, but u cant stack units to get more attack dice. all units roll independently

The scenario.  An infantry soldier is in a town hex and a vehicle crosses the open ground and enters the same hex.  The soldier is entitled to defensive fire.

The rule states the defensive fire effects (ie which hex it occurs)  is determined by the defender.  In this case that means the defender says if the effect take place in the open ground hex or if it happens in the town hex.

Question.  If the defender awaits until the vehicle has entered the town hex, can he use his abilities to attack vehicles in his own hex with the far superior dice rolls or is Defensive fire only about direct fire

Yes. You get to chose where the defencive-fire occurs, and if you have any special abilities such as flamethrower or close assault you can use them. Only a few abilities are worded such that they can’t be used for defencive-fire (eg the Goliath’s ). So if your unit is, for example, simply a regular infantry it will probably be best to make the defencive-fire attack in the same hex where it can use its close assault.

A successful defensive-fire attack disrupts the target. Since disrupted units can’t move, this
normally ends that unit’s movement. Grizzled Veteran ignore face up, so it can move.

The trick to aircraft is you actually have to practice patience.

Don’t place them if you can’t get a good attack in with them.  Take out your opponents AA units with fast attacking forces; units like motorcycles, cavalry, and even some armoured cars were well. Once you’ve elminated them you should have air superiority.  The trick is to get them out as fast as you can, because until then you’re opponent has a point advantage on you.

No Issue here regarding length of game, at least on my part.  The game is most enjoyable regardless of how long it takes to play.  I’ve had 12+ hour Axis & Allies matches that end in draws.  I’m sure once we get more experienced it will go a bit faster.

or

three deep by two wide?

We usually play the 3 wide x 2 deep… but we don’t usually have a large enough table for more than that.  I prefer the 3 wide because it spreads out the armies and allows more room for flanking.
